Just a small thread to ask which in your opinion is the better game console.

First off is the mighty PS2. My personal favourite.

Next is the Xbox. Microsoft shite

Or gamecube. The new box with only 6million polygons

ps2 cracked properly now, but 40odd wires, xbox chip out next week, chipping supposed to be easier, cube not cracked attime of typing.

ps2 chips about £55, xbox expected to be £60

only good xbox game i seen os halo, the rest are nothing special. some top qual stuff on the ps2 like gta3 and jack and daxter!

as of today my view is the ps2 wins BUT that may change soon

For me its between the Xbox and Game Cube. The Ps2 is Good but its old. its only got 255Mhz or something like that. Ok it got by far the most games and shit and its DVD compatable.
Xbox is a really powerful machine, It has loads of powerfull components like a grafix card and 700+ Mhz but they don't really work together as well as they could. You gotta buy a DVD add-on to play Dvd's. Nevertheless its a very powerfull machine.
GameCube has less powerfull components but they work together well and therefore can match Xbox for grafix and shit like that. (just about.) Plus you can always rely on Nintendo for great gameplay. The reason it is so cheap is because it hasn't got a DVD player. Nintendo is all about video games. And it gives just that.

Xbox and gamecube hasn't got as many games but give em a chance dude. They only just been released.

Your choice.

my ex husband and i had a PS2 and i loved it only for the fact that it played DVD.. i never played games on it! plus it was just cool looking! Then the bastard broke it and i wasn't able to get it in the divorce settelment! He was able to get it a few days before it was released in stores cause of the company he use to work for.. that was kind of cool!

PS2!! Ok, it may be getting on now(in computer terms) but it still kicks arse! GT3, MGS2,Half life... I could go on. Plus it has DVD out of the box. Unlike X-box, which you have to pay for! Look at what happened with N64, Dreamcast and PS. N64 more powerful, Dreamcast was too, but the PS still saw both of them off, and its still going. Why was that? Games and game play. Thats what. Why have an all sing all dancing machine if the games are crap. When you play a game, the graphics are important, but the gameplay is more so. Perhaps MS and Nintendo could learn a thing...

i think that ps2 is the best. cause u can play the old games and dvds with no extra stuff. then comes x-box its new so no old games but it can still play dvds with and extra part and its really powerful. last is gamecube its overrated the only thing they have going for them is that sweet ass games that i wanna play are only made for it and that sucks !!!

I'd say ps2. cos i've got one
Isn't x-box supposed to be able to play pc games.

May 12, 2002, 16:21
Play PC games? I really don't think so - not unless it's modded somehow...

...and my vote goes to the X-Box (cause I've got one, and cause I can get $10 games through my girlfriend who works at Microsoft :) ).

...and the GC looks like a little purple purse.

I dont think you can judge a console looking only at the speed, ram..... its the games that make the machine. GTA3, GT3, TH3, Wipeout and others make the PS2 while Halo makes the XBOX while Waverace and others make the Gamecube.

its all about the games.

Cause some people would rather sit on the floor or on a couch in comfort in front of a nice big TV instead of in a chair in front of a tiny monitor that's hard on the eyes.

Also, some people are too stupid to deal with all that nasty computer stuff. Like installing. And patches.

I would have to say, I'm gonna side with the PS2 here. The GameCube looks inferior, and the X-Box is too new. Give it a year, and the X-Box should have taken off with better games, graphics the lot.

Bengaul
May 20, 2002, 19:10
By then the PS2 will have upgraded.. Its gonna lead the market for a while.

netniV
May 20, 2002, 19:35
I can't see no reason for it not to be. Games like GTA3, TimeSplitters, and other such titles are all making the PS2 one of the most loved games consoles world wide.

PooperScooper
May 20, 2002, 19:45
PC is good but I reckon it would be expensive cuz your always having to upgrade. But then you have always got your old games and don't have to go up to the loft and dust off your old console like N64 or even Snes if you fancy a game of your favourate hits. And also you can play a load of PS and N64 games if you on yer PC if you have a powerfull system. Em. . . I still go fo gamecube though cuz you can always rely on good ole' nintendo for great games and shit like that.

netniV
May 20, 2002, 19:49
Good games? Don't you remember the 64? That was crap. I'm sorry, but I was never satisfied with what was produced for the 64. Especially considering it was supposed to compete with the original Playstation.

I know I'll get questioned for this, but why wasn't th GBA involved in this poll? Was it not powerful enough or something?

mikey the devil
May 24, 2002, 23:02
Does GBA = Game Boy Advance? It good for a handheld system, but it's not in the same class with the systems in poll. That's my guess as to why it wasn't included.

m-d-m
May 24, 2002, 23:14
Bingo. And some of the games on the GBA are better than some of the games on the consoles on the pole. Think Mario Kart (Portable gaming heaven) or Golden Sun (One hell of an RPG)

PooperScooper
May 26, 2002, 01:15
I could never get into Golden Sun. I just hate the way the combat thing works. It's shite and it spoils the game. Why don't they ever release games like Zelda (SNES) on GBA?? They already did it with Super Mario World. Or they could re-release those N64 classic games like the Zelda games or Mario64 on the GameCube format. I can't understand why Nintendo just lets those classic games go to waste once their console has past it's sell by date. They could shoot streight up to the top of the bestseller lists.

Actually, the_did, you are wrong. I'm always playing games on my ... CONSOLE ... not the PC. The only games I ever really play on the PC, are Star Wars - Battle Grounds, and Half-Life Team Fortress.

Everything else I play on the Playstation, etc, coz that's what they are designed for, and it's far better. (Plus I have the playstation hooked through the video to the hi-fi system so it's really cool sounding).

m-d-m
May 31, 2002, 11:38
The only game I play on the PC is Champ Manager, because it's the only platform you can play it on (Unless you shell out £240 to get it with an Xbox)

PooperScooper
May 31, 2002, 13:53
Ok I bought StarWars: Rogue Leader for GameCube and it sucks major dick. The reason why is because it is boaring and repetative. The game has eleven missions and in each mission you have about three objectives and have to complete them one after another. The grafix are mindboggling. They are soooo good it's just unbeleivable. My mother actually came into my room and asked me what film I was watching!! That's how good they are. But the game seems to be too concerned with showing off the grafix more than the gameplay. You just want to fly about and explore the beutifull worlds that you are flying in and if you try to do that a ship you are supposed to be protecting will blow up or a bunch of StarFighters will follow you and blow you to peices and you will fail your mission and have to start again. The levels are too short and easy to complete. I bought it last week and I am already on the 10th mission. (There are 11 missions in total) You get the impression this game might have been rushed for the released date. I will probably complete this game tonight and bring it back and get a refund. I am not paying £44.99 for a game that can be finished in less than a week. :boil:

netniV
May 31, 2002, 14:01
I found Rogue Leader on the PC was pretty much the same. Repetative and the only hard thing in it was Moff at the end.

nixie
May 31, 2002, 15:30
Xbox definately rules, it even plays games that were ported from the ps2 (like Tony Hawk 3) alot better than the PS2 does, the controllers are alot nicer and Halo is the best console shooter ever. Gotham City Racing rules aswell.

netniV
May 31, 2002, 15:55
To be honest, I've never seen an X-Box in person, so I can't possibly comment just yet on the validity of that statement.

m-d-m
May 31, 2002, 16:04
It's too bulky, a games console doesn't need a hard disc, just a memory card will do.

nixie
May 31, 2002, 19:12
But it does need the hard disk. The disk isn't only used for saving games (which it does better than a memory card, no more deleting saves to find room to play ypur new game) it also caches the game onto the harddrive for faster load times, and for caching the larger levels on games.

netniV
May 31, 2002, 22:19
For that, I'm afraid I'm going to side with nixie. Having the game cached on the disk is, in technologically speak, gonna seriously speed the fucker up. No matter have high your multiplier is on your CD-ROM, it'd never match the speeds capable by a hard drive.

PooperScooper

Did ypu say you can play PS2 Games on yer Xbox??? Tell me more.

CapaC
Jun 12, 2002, 20:33
Well I'm new here but I need to add my three cents. This weekend I am buying an Xbox. I'm a rather picky bastard so I did a lot of research. It turns out though that in my opinion the Xbox won (obviously); here's why.

Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound. That's right boys and girls completely 3D sound.

An 8 gig hard drive. That's enough to hold roughly 1500 songs if no space is used on other things. Along with game caching and near unlimited save game room (if you aren't a mp3 junkie) makes that a sweet deal either way.

Ability to hookup to a high definition television, computer projector, computer monitors and even your normal television makes this thing a major contender for the heart of a home entertainment center.

DVD player. It's only $30 for the remote. You'll spend MUCH more than that just going out one night. Hell I've spent more on pizza and beer.

Here is the kicker....a multi-billion dollar company is behind this thing that honestly wants to make it the best damn console out there. You can bet there will be a lot of accessories and services for this machine. It's not like the Xbox team are on a tight budget by any means and Bill Gates does not like to lose.

jak
Jun 12, 2002, 20:46
gamecube reminds of a kiddie machine,
ps2 reminds me of just the best god damn thing,
and xbox reminds me of aliens.

just my reminders. heh.

i own a ps2, and i bought it when they first came out. and now they cut their prices alot. argh!

I think the days of pc gaming are coming to an end. Its becoming just far too expensive to keep up when the newest graphics cards cost almost twice that of a top end console.

Plus the amount of knowledge you take for granted to just get a pc game to work, really takes the piss nowadays.

Its a shame, but as time progresses more people will be completely priced out of the pc games market because the technology is moving too fast.

I`m seriously considering not upgrading my pc any longer and getting a console instead for gaming. Its cheaper and more cost effective to get a console every 2 or 3 years than upgrade your pc yearly.

buggerlugs
Jun 17, 2002, 00:10
capac, heres another reason to get an x-box.

DivX compatability is now available. Now hows that? Playing all your downloaded divx films on your tv couldn`t be easier!

Doing it from a pc is a nightmare!

mark knipe
Jun 17, 2002, 01:05
At the moment we pay $388 aud for an x-box which is 145 pounds, now what i wanna know is how much you poms pay, cause i was speaking to someone and they said everything is so much more expensive over in pommie land. Gamecube is $329 or 122 pounds, and ps2 is $399 or 149 pounds.

netniV
Jun 17, 2002, 10:48
Currently, the X-Box is around £ 200. Depending on which deal you go for you might get it for slightly less, or more, with more or less optional extras included.

CapaC
Jun 17, 2002, 16:14
Canadian an Xbox and a PS2 are both $299 and a Game Cube is $249.

By the way I bought my Xbox over the weekend and I am not the least bit dissapointed. :D

Thats a fairly big difference when you take the exchange rate into consideration.

netniV
Jun 17, 2002, 17:59
It most certainly is. For the UK, I'm very sure that they just take the US price and stick a £ sign at the front.

From what i understand it also extends to pc's and parts etc, about the only prices that are even close are games for console and pc. Also is the U.K pal or ntsc?

netniV
Jun 18, 2002, 12:11
U.K. is on PAL rather than NTSC. I, fortunately, aquired a NTSC compatible video player. Well, maybe not so fortunately, as I went out and bought it so I could play videos that Al sent to me.....
