When I got this game I thought to myself "Woohoo! Matrix game YEAH!"
That was about it really. 3 words too say about it. Don't fucking bother. It may sound harsh but it is the biggest pile of stinking Horse cack I have ever had the misfortune of playing in my 20+years of playing games. Visually it has impressive bits and the info you learn about the Matrix behind the scenes is great but what it lacks is a decent control system and what should have been quite rigorous playtesting as well.
So far I have had the game crash on me once in the middle of a level for no apparent reason and have the character I've been controlling get stuck in a position that you can't maneuver out of twice, which is about 3 things too man Wouldn't be so bad but I have a Gamecube and I've never had an experience like that on any console I've ever played on.
There are alot of inconsistencies in the gameplay as well such as you can run up walls that are at 90 degress to the floor but when it comes to a round tunnel it doesn't want to do it. There is the task arrow which shows you where to go and when you have gone past an item. The poor design with the save game feature constantly interrupting your game and some real stupid save prompts (like the chateau level where you have just beaten to a pulp a number of 'undead' creatures and then you save the game and then enter the main hall for about 3 seconds, go through a door and then save again and fight 2 more creatures and then go through another door and then your prompted to save again. Autosave, its not hard is it? Timesplitters 2 does it, James Bond does it, in fact every other GC game I have does it except the Matrix.
The 'hack' feature is a bit basic and gives you access to cheats and special weapons and so on but its not enough to save the game from being abysmal.
If you feel you ,ust then buy a copy that someone else has traded in because there will be alot of these on the market.
To sum it up:
Controls that are a bit on the iffy side.
Poorly conceived level design (don't get me started on the driving levels!) and a complete lack of playtesting and bug finding.
The game is a not just a pile of horse cack, it is a steaming pile of horse cack with flys buzzing around it.
I give this game 3 out of 10.
Save your money or buy ANYTHING else, don't touch this game unless you really have to!
