Today I baught a Playstation 2 network adapter and a router. After a few minutes of jigging and jogging, the network adaptor was installed, and the router was all connected up.
Firstly I needed to get the router working. This required calling Telewest and telling them a MAC address, which was clearly stated by the router's admin tool. After that, everything worked dandy.
I put in the Network disk and fired up my PS2.
I skipped all the help and intro sequences, 'cause I'm that impatient. I wanted to get straight to the registration. In order to use your network adapter, you first have to enter some registration and serial numbers, your name and address etc and your "Online Handle"
The disk then asked me to set up my adapter, which was pretty easy. I specified my country, told it I used blueyonder and voila, it was configured. Next was registration.
Frightfully, two numbers I needed to register were obscured by the newly installed network adapter and I had to remove it to get them. How annoying.
Once I had these numbers, I used the rather dubious registration tool to enter all the required details. The tool was pretty poorly instructed, and hard to read in places. However, it was still pretty painless.
It told me everything was set up, and proper confirmation of my handle will be mailed to me. WHOO!
I grabbed the first game I could think of which utilised the PS2 network, which was Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4.
After entering what network adapter I'm using and specifiying my online nick, I was on the game server and playing against loads of strange people. It was fast, smooth and rather fun, even though everyone seemed unable to describe things as anything else but "Gay"
This looks like it could be a helluva lot of fun. It's pissball to set up, and shows a lot of potential. I recommend it.
