they fucking did it.

[ this post is supplementary to the corresponding doghouse flame found here: http://dogbomb.co.uk/board/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11148 ]

they have made me redudant. i found out this morning.

i'm tired. just tired.
i'm too tired to be angry.

so just in case you didnt read above thread:

i am a [young] patent attorney - i have yet to get a law degree but not many people know that

i have been here for about 2 and a half years and have had previous experience

i was told recently that despite the fact that i was making more than enough money for the firm [an average of 3.5 times my salary - which is well over the 'profitability threshold'], the firm is losing money, and they cant afford to keep me

my colleague (! friendship is now questionable) earns twice what i earn, yet bills only 2.3 times her salary [any asshole knows that this will lose the firm money] - she is never at work, is a bitch to work with, and despite her quals, often comes to me for intellectual property advice.

she is staying.

they just employed a receptionist 2 weeks ago, on another $7,000 more than me (!!!!! WTF !!!!!).

she has no work!

not only that but MY secretaries earn more than me! and they will stay, now with no-one to give them work!

ok i am young (compared to most people who are at my level in the position who are in their mid-late 30s) so i havent put my hand out as other people have...

anyway the point is that i now have no job.

so where to go from here is the question. i'll work this out over the next month i have working out my time here.

july 11th is my last day.

the thing that pisses me off so much is that i was organising a trip to europe to see my girl (had a week in paris, then italy etc)

it looks as though this is now off the cards...

what to do ?

i thought i would keep you updated anyway.

i have nathan haines as loud as possible in my office - coffee - wrapped up considering my next move...

sirk - a drink?

Leave on good terms. You have experience, now get a decent reference from them and fuck 'em.

Go work somewhere else for better money. Best of luck to you!

it's not only exceptionally shitty it also sounds very unfair. Wrongfull dismissal? I mean you could have a case there. But you'd know more about that than I ever would.

Sorry to hear this.

Yeah agree with all the comments above, you got a raw deal, but it's their loss, go find another job with better pay.

Sounds to me you need a big pair of breasts in order to keep your job there.

That's fuckin' atrocious. If you have any dodgy mates, you should get 'em to do the place o'er for you.

Bad luck there Thom!

But looking on the positive side:
1) if they've let you go, they obviously didn't realise your full worth: Their loss
2) if they don't know which members of staff are worth keeping, then they aren't worth working for. You're better off at a new office.
3) they don't know how much money you ought to be paid for your skills. You'll be able to get much better elsewhere.

I know this is hard at the moment, but you'll get a new job, probably better paid as you now have more experience than when you got the last one. The new boss will appreciate your potential and you'll get treated better than you do at the moment.

So to end the story,
Thom lived happily ever after!
The End.

PS, good luck with the job hunting

ta guys

i think now unless i want to go into another job at my present salary and slog away for another thankless 2 and a half years, i should look to uni full time

ok so it is 4 years but i guess it will be worth it

in the meantime, i will see what i can do to save my pennies and spend a few months in the beautiful UK with the love of my life

and then come back and get stuck in

sounds fair.

right. enough dwelling. fuck this.

oh and the other thing is my immediate boss is thinking of starting up an intellectual property firm on his own and may have me part time while i do my law degree

yahooooo!!!!!!!!!!

in the meantime i was thinking of selling my services on the net to supplement my now dwindling income

ie i could offer myself to mastercard(R) and write nasty emails to everyone that infringes copyright and MC's registered tms on the web! i could make millions !

but in the meantime, i will PM you sirk

you are all beautiful!

Good luck to ya mate. There were loads of redundencies when we got took over by CVC and I was bricking it for about 3 weeks. Pretty soon they'll be gagging for someone to fill your boots and you can laugh.....

Thom,

First of all commiserations. Being made redundant is shite and you have my best wishes. I don't do sympathy. Its patronising and you don't want it.

Money is not the be all and end all. You don't need it and if you want to continue further education but don't have parents able pay for it then there are grants to finance the course, you just need a place to live and money for food which you can finance with bar work at the very least. You'll be fine and your education won't suffer this little setback.

PLEASE DO NOT take a shit on your bosses desk or leave rotting animals behind the radiators or anything like that. You'll be very grateful for the reference later on. A guy I worked with has handed his notice in but failed to serve his obligatory 4 week notice. Because of this they had grounds to sack him which obviously looks a lot worse on your CV (especially his, it was his first and only job and he did it for 6 years).

I'm saying that you need to swallow your pride and get it over with without any events. The world is full of arseholes and this isn't the last one that will fuck you over. These things make life's rich pageant rich. Don't let it beat you down, take it on head first.

I was made redundant a few years ago, I saw my old boss the other month and thanked him for it as Im doing less hours for twice as much pay.
He didnt have a fucking clue what to say just sort of got all flustered and stormed off.
Keep your head up man something will turn up.
