I'm fairly new to the dogbomb phenomenon and haven't shared with you, my musical favourites...and I mean real music, none of this wanky commercial, fashionable nonsense that fills charts all over the world!!
So what am I listening to I hear you beg?!
Okay..something easy to listen to for starters...and that would be Sigur Ros. Fantastic band they are...made all the better by the fact that I can't understand a single word the lead singers says (their icelandic) so his voice just becomes another instrument, and what an instrument. the lead singer also plays his guitar with a violin bow and the sound in creates goes through and through you!
Next up...Jeff Buckley, the man with the voice!
I listened to "Grace" (His first album) a few years back and being the tree-huggin hippie that I am, it brought tears to my eyes. The man himself is dead now, drowned after drinking and jumping in a river...and, as with all dead artists, the public were inundated with previously unreleased and to an extent unfinished material...so there's plenty of his music to listen to and if you haven't heard it already then you should give it a go (Grace is a must).
Last but not least, there's Godspeed You Black Emperor!
If you thought the name was hard work then you're only scratching the surface. They're music's not easy-listening, not by a long shot...but with a little perserverance their sound really grows on you. They're a nine-piece band with no vocalist! On top of their fantastic music, they don't do corporatism or consumerism...a brilliant example of what I call 'real' people. They don't do adverts or TV shows...or partake in any other act of bleeding your hard-earned cash out of your wallet...no, they rely on word of mouth it would seem, so I do my best to plug them. Again, if you haven't heard them, then do check them out, but be warned they take a bit of getting used to!
I hope I've been able to provide people with some real music to listen to...rather than the over-hyped pile of pish that is Pop music...Justin Timberlake, Westlife and the likes...do the world a favour and quit being fashion puppets for the Corporate fat cats of this world I beg you!
I luv you all!
