View Full Version : Best in martial arts films
tonystarks Jul 4, 2003, 08:36 If your getting a feeling for the wonderful world of martial arts cinema with the way hollywood is mass producing films such as The Matrix trilogy, The blade films and anything else to do with a super hero that was in a comic once really?
Check out www.hongkonglegends.co.uk how it all began with some of the greatest titles from traditional kung fu e.g. Drunken Master, Once upon a time in china, and Iron monkey. Or the more modern kung fu titles such as In the line of duty, Black sheep affair and The Hit Man.
Its easy to order and it takes less than a week to receive the goods. (and they dont charge for P&P!)
Loved most of the early Jackie Chan movies and some of the early jet Li ones. Still for epic movie I love Crouching dragon....
Anybody seen the new trailer for the next Tarinteno film its got mostly martial arts and bullet time in, any one state side seen it yet?
Squalion Jul 4, 2003, 11:15 Game of Death
Enter the Dragon
aint seen many jackie chan ones, tho I hear jet li is ace at them too
Drunken Master
Snake in the Eagles Shadow
The Defender
Hitman
Project A
Police Story 1
Police Story 2
Tai Chi Boxer
Fist Of Legend
Twin Warriors
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (shame)
Those are all I can get off the top of my head but they're my favourites... I can't remember the Jet Li titles so well anymore. All The early Chan ones are brilliant.

Too Many Others To Mention
Ronin Da Bomb Jul 6, 2003, 19:54 I Realised i Didnt Put The Matrix Films In, But To Me They're So Much More Than Martial Arts Films
They're also a sick sexual fantasy ;)
I forgot but I had meant to add that while I liked Bruce Lee I found the films really wore on where the Chan ones stood up because he's so seemingly indestructible. Chan has always been week and generally an idiot or at least a dosser (drunken master etc). It adds depth of character to the film and though the acting is terrible, Lee wasn't just terrible, he wasn't an actor. I know I'll be the only one who seems to badmouth him, but he was a great bloke, I just think he's been built up too much. I think Chan and Li will never be recognised because over the years the Lee legend has grown into much more than he was. It's sad that they'll both, and many others like Sammo, be eclipsed by Lee in the long term to at least a small degree. OOOh, I'm a coniseur.
tonystarks Jul 7, 2003, 12:10 Im personally a very big donnie yen fan.
He's without a doubt as tallented as jet li and has something extra e.g. he does all his own stunts
I nearly shot my man fat the first time I saw Iron monkey!
