View Full Version : Game Cube. Lack of games?

I dont know about you lot but I feel there is a distinct lack of quality games for the little gem known as the game cube.
There is no doubt in my mind that the graphic engine is far more impressive than that of the PS2... and Im a die hard fan of sony!

But not to worry!
Theres some really good lookin stuff on the way!
Soul calibur 2 has a confirmed release date of 28/08/03 in which the extra character will be bloody link from zelda!

Rogue squadron 3 is due in october in which you get to ride the speed bikes, walkers and a host of other great weapons!

Final fantasy is makeing a long due apperance in the form of Chrystal chronicals

Spawn is also due for release and looks a whole lot better than the 1st gash effort on the PSone

And for the diehard nintendo fans the new mario golf game is on the way...

So chins up! The little bastard box is gonna get funky again!

Sorry buddy but I think that the little box will fade in to history like the dreamcast.
People will opt for a Xbox or the PS2.
You know it will happen :)

But you 2 seem to forget the fact that Sonys Profits are down (something like 98% last quarter and has been trending downwards for a wee while now) and microsoft have not made any money out of their boxes either. Sure Nintendo has stopped production for now to clear the backlog of Gamecubes for now but they have made a profit on each unit they have sold. Remember that they own the handheld market and are certain to have something planned for E3 in the way of hardware as well. Oh and the company warchest is conservatively estimated at around $6billion US as well.

Cant understand why someone would buy a PS2 when even the simple games are graphically inferior and as for gameplay on most of the Playstation games I have ever played it is poor if not non existent. Games are too easy to finish.

XBox. I would consider buying one but will wait for the inevitable pre xmas price drop and bundle deal too come along. The games I've played on the system weren't exactly mindblowing either.

Dont write them off yet...

Im with you on the graphics front sirk (with the few exceptions e.g. silent hill3, MGS2, Final Fantasy X, etc...)
But game play wise I dont think you can beat the PS2 for variaty. Im never bored becasue there is something for everyone. And if sometings to easy... try them on hard. They are usually extremelly hard!
I know sonys loosing out at the moment profits wise... but thats because the software is at such a competitve price there not making sod all profit.
Theres a great selection on the way for the PS2 aswell as the gamecube you know?

Hmm I dunno cos in every comp shop i go in the displays are mostly Xbox and PS2 have the larger displays.
The poor old cube gets put to the back were it is hardly seen.

If nintendo wanted it to do well they should have thought about the release date and time better. Instead it was kinda of quite and amongst all the PS2 and Xbox hype it kinda got left behind.
The only thinng keeping the cube in is the Resident Evil series.

:)

Resident Evil 4 is gonna blow us away, I hope. Shame the cunts aren't releasing remakes of 2/3.

If they stopped making crappy cutesy games, they'd have a chance.

Xbox..lol...still has about 2 decent titles to it's name..it's gonna flop.

There's been fuck all on any console that's worth really screaming about since Silent Hill 3. My PS2 and GameCube haven't been switched on in months.

It's about time Resident Evil Online was released I think.

Just wanted to ad my 2p...

The Gamecube had me hooked (I'm a big Nintendo fan), with Res Evil, Zelda, Metroid, Animal Crossing, Super Monkey Ball, Marios Sunshine... I was more than content.

I agree that the future line up looks a little bleak, but remember - there's a sequel to Metroid, a sequel to Zelda and of course Mario Kart - Double Dash coming out over the next year or so, so it's not that bad!

Lets face it - how many (platform specific) decent games does the Xbox have? 1...? 2...(maybe)? And it's biggest dedicated title - Halo - will be out for the PC soon.

I won't hear a word against the PS2 though - I recently picked one up for £80 and so far have immensely enjoyed playing Ico (possibley the finest game I've ever played), Rez & MGS2....

One final note - the Gamecube is currently outselling the PS2 in Japan. The weekly sales figures were:

GameCube - 35,600
Playstation 2 - 35,300
Microsoft Xbox - 650

Hooray!

Take this as a given; every console that has ever been released has went through a games lull halfway through it's life, from the NES to the GameCube, via the Playstation. The N64 was definately the hardest hit in 1999 by this, but it bounced back before the end of it's life, so don't get worried about it.

Just read this on gamespy:
GameCube Sales Climb - Prophet
Nintendo of America, announced that the GameCube has quadrupled its sales rate since its price cut to $99.99 a mere 35 days ago, based on data gathered from the country's largest retail chains (NPD TRSTs, September 2003). Nintendo also said that it has garnered 18 points of market share from its two competitors in little over a month, thanks to the price reduction. NOA's George Harrison also said that the $80 price difference between the GameCube and its competitors coupled with the pending release of Mario Kart: Double Dash, Mario Party 5 and the new 1080 Snowbaording game will make for a very lucrative holiday shopping season.

We have a copy and we like it! Its not the hardest game in the world but its great fun none the less. If your going to get alot of life out of it get some friends first to play the multiplayer battles and races to get full feel for the little bugger. Go get and enjoy!

I think the Cube is done for.. I may be cheaper than the rest, but it lack the flexiblity of the other 2. The whole DVD player thing.
Plus a lot of people got burnt by the N64, I had one for a while just after Goldeneye (great game) was released. The rest was just shite, even the WWF games on the N64 took a kicking from the PS one versions.
Sony basically said anything you can do we can do better.

My Gf is buying me an X-box for crimbo with project gotham racing 2. Looks good, plus the bonus is that I live in Edinburgh which is one of the cities featured in the game.

My flatmate went to see a friend over a weekend and bought a GameCube just for Double Dash. Got to say that it is one of the best games I have played on the Cube, but I'm waiting on him getting some extra controllers. I know what the flat was like on my 64 with MK64, so 4 player Double Dash will kick ass.

Not heard of QR but if ghost recon is a CS clone then...CS is better on pc :P

Metal Gear Solid Substance.

MGS1,2 and Snake Eater out on ps2. and Twin Snakes on GC next year.

Superior speed, superior graphics,

Technically yes, realistically no, many games don't have good enough engines to run smoothly. A good PS2 games looks and runs better than an average xbox one.

a better controller

It's the worst one ever. Huge with stupidly-positioned buttons and ache-inducing shoulder buttons.

Im sorry Squalion, I think that is rubbish and you have an obvious hatred for the x-box because it is a Microsoft product. I am not a fan of Microsoft, but the x-box is one of the few things they have got right.

The original controller that came out was pretty bad, but they quickly released a smaller more comfortable one that feels very natural.

I have to question whether or not you have actually played on an x-box. Seriously.

No offence intended.

Nope, I hate it because it's badly designed and has a bollocks lineup of games. The games are pretty much the only thing I consider in a console, which is why I still use my PS1 more than PS2.

btw I love microsoft products in general, I don't like linux/mozilla fanboys and always use Windows and IE :P

I have to question whether or not you have actually played on an x-box. Seriously.

None taken, and yeah I have access to one at my sister's house, rushed round there to play Halo...was fun for two hours then I thought 'whats the big deal? This aint as good as Half life, CS or even Duke Nukem 64 and the controller means it's hard to aim at enemies properly..plus the 2 guns at a time thing, childish enemies and arsing around you have to do.' Name one game on xbox and i'll name you a better one of the same type on PS2/PC/GC.

Oh and they don't have FF or Resi, two of the biggest game licenses ever, not to mention MGS, Gran Turismo (that project gotham racing looks bland and shite..especially for the capability of the xbox..another rushed and crappy copy of another game)

My nephews get a coupla pirate xbox games a month, and I play each one usually. At least 80% are unoriginal, boring, seen-it-all-before games rehashed in xbox graphics, usually with dodgy game engines too, and loads sequels and ports.

I just think of smooth, enveloping, polished games like MGS2, Final Fantasy and Devil May Cry and think 'why did MS bother'.

True but it's a games console not a DVD player, if you want a DVD player then you can spend the 40 quid difference between the GC and the XBox/PS2 on a standalone unit which will, lets face it give you the equivalent quality as you get on the console built in ones.
The GC is top of my Jan Sales wishlist alongside a decent standalone DVD player, I can't understand why people want to have everything in one box rather than having seperate boxes that do the job better on their own. I guess it's the same as the old midi system/hi-fi seperates argument. So that means the gamecube is for those of us who have a seperate amp adn CD deck and the PS2 and Xbox are for the people who like a big black box that does everything.

As for games, it has;
NFS, FIFA, Resi Evil, Veiwtful Joe, Wipeout, FZero,Super monkey ball, Final Fantasy,Sonic, Mario & Zelda.
When I was a kid, I dreamed of a console that had Sonic AND Mario, the gamecube is my personal dream come true.

Yeah, that was the case but they started manufacturing them again early december, lowering the price sold them tonnes more units. Yes, it will probably always be the underdog but I think it's gonna last, I can't see Nintendo making the same mistakes sega made, it would be a shame if they did cos there'd be no veterans left in the market.

I'd have a cube if they were 49.99, and games were a tenner. I like the 'Nintendo feel' of some of the games, but it's hardly going to be anybody's first choice of console

It's taken a while, but the Xbox is taking off like...woahh..in terms of software.

I've got Xbox and PS2. I haven't bought a PS2 game in over 6 months.
The only game I ever play PS2 is GT3 (which pisses on all Xbox racing games - although I haven't played ProjectGothamRacing2 yet).

Actually, it was mine. Just bought my cube and I love it. My current game collection:

Legend of zelda 1,2,Ocarina of time and Majora's mask
Sonic 1,2,3,& knuckles,3d,Spinbal and mean bean machine,
FIFA 2003,
Metroid Prime,
Viewtiful Joe,
Final Fantasy:Crystal Chronicles
Mario Kart Double Dash!!
XIII,
Resident evil

The games look great, the controller feels good, the machine itself(I got the black one) looks good and it has Sonic and Mario on the same console. I'm in my element. Zelda in particular is taking over my life!!
It might be the worst console for marketing and third party support but what's there is good and I go for wuality over quantity any day.

For me the point of a console is to play in front of the TV witha few mates after the pub etc. So I have to say out of the 3 major consoles I prefer Gamecube purely because of multiplayer games like Super Monkey Ball 2 and Double Dash.

If I want to play a game with stunning graphics and deep gameplay, my computer blows every console out the water very easily (and its 12 months old, hardly cutting edge stuff). So arguing about a console's graphics etc is completly pointless IMHO.

Thank God Microsoft have yet to even dent the Japanese market. At present I believe Nintendo rule supreme as far as consoles are concerned in the East. XBox however is America's No. 1. As I see it the dinky little Gamecube is the most pure of the consoles available at present and certainly would be my first choice were I not a die hard Final Fantasy fan. I have no interest in the XBox what so ever to be frank. A combination of a deep distrust for Microsoft and the blatant fact that an XBox can do nothing a PC can't do where a PC can do it better means I won't be touching it will a six foot barge pole. I acknowledge that an XBox is far cheaper than a good spec PC and that it allows for easier use and blah multiplayer and such. But... just no.

I will keep both my fingers crossed for the next few years and hope Ninento aren't bullied out of a market already lacking good competitive variety.
