After getting this new forum opened (and becoming one of it's moderators) I thought the best first act would be to find out what the best game is that anyone has ever played.
What could you say? Are you "Doom"ed to play in hell, earn a "Medal of Honor", "Quake" in your boots, or get "Dizzy" with the classic games.
Over to you.
If you want to know mine, I'm a bit partial to Mario World on the SNES.
well dated as it may sound i loved super mario
I'm intending on getting it on the GBA. After I come back from holiday maybe.
dogbomb May 25, 2002, 15:25 I loved the Dizzy collection.. that little fucker rocked ;)
I also love the old classic platform games, Donkey Kong, Chuckie Egg, Mario, Sonic and the gang.
But my favorite, without a doubt...
MANIC MINER!!!
Ugh_tC May 25, 2002, 18:18 Monkey Island Series
The hours I spent on that (playing it several times on my Amiga), brilliant.
I'm also a massive Elite fan, which I've played on several machines.
Crash Team Racing Psx. Goodbye Mariocart, you are the weakest link. Spent about 200hours in total on final fantasy 7. Only (only!) took me 35 hours to finish it though...
I've wasted my life. I'll whip yer arse on Ctr though...
monkeyfister May 26, 2002, 00:30 On-line Return to Castle Wolfenstein is the best. It's got the lot. Good teamplay, good firepower, good maps and good deaths. You can take on the Fritz. You can witness acts of great incompetence.
If your talking back in the day, you can't forget lemmings, boulderdash, bust-a-move and Kevin Toms football manager for stealing too much quality time.

WooHoo, God I loved that game. That stupid little tune still sticks in my head. Harking back to spectrum days, 'Airwolf' was brill too.(BTW I was one of the fools who bought a Dragon32....hahahaha...anyone else?.....or were you all rich BBC & +2'ers?)
I now play (most-least)Motocross Madness 2, Age of Empires, and Flight sim at the MS Gaming Zone www.zone.com , Return to castle Wolfenstein (Although I'm struggling with multiplayer.) and Half-life (both of which make my head spin when I'm lost)
Others too, but they're my faves i think.
inu_asbestos May 27, 2002, 14:09 Favorite game, hmm, probably Fallout 2 although db mentioned Chuckie Egg and I'd forgotten how much I loved that game on the old MSX...abd road rash 2 on the megadrive, all totally swweeeet! :D
the_did May 27, 2002, 14:26 does anybody remember kickstart 2 on the spectrum, 2 player motor cross platform action, it kicked ass!
Putty on the amiga!! and stunt car racer.
Game now days are too much into the graphics, id rather they made games they used to, all was all about the playabilty and enjoyment, not how many polygons per second it calculates.:D
Which by the looks of the other replies is the view of everybody else.
Olden Days games rocked. Chuckie Egg got me in to trouble for swearing, at aged 8. "What are you doing?" said my best friend. "Im trying to get away from those bloody chickens!" said I, recoiling as my head thumped into a big lump of wood by a force not its own.
Jet Set Willy was phenomenal, as was Daley Thompson's Decathlon, although your board did tend to get a bit hammered.
Elite is also worthy of a mention. Not least for its realistic "flying through hyperspace" graphics.
Modern Day games, All time favourite and most played game is The Sims with the expansion packs. I just need a faster computer with bigger memory now.
zipmouthzero May 27, 2002, 18:04 Tony Hawk 2/3. Good games. Good music what more do you want?

Wasn't that the one with the track editor.
You want to get yourself a spectrum emulator for your PC. You'll be able to play all the old spectrum games again. I've got the CD with loads of spectrum programs on.
Worth it for the novelty value.
I remember having hundreds of games for the speccy on a couple of tapes. We're talking nigh on 300 games colectively.
Tennents May 27, 2002, 22:31 Sensible soccer on the AMIGA <---awesome ,and Rocky horror show on the spectrum , Metal gear solid ROCKS on the playstation , Pit stop on the commodore 64 got me off the ball and bat consoles way back 15 or so years ago when BASIC was a language I could actually work with .
So if 120 INPUT a$:IF LEN a$>9
Then goto 120
Jings takes me back lol
bubbavirus May 27, 2002, 22:32 fly ww 2 warplanes,
i sometimes fly "Brit" planes, lank a fave,
the nine, "spifire ix" , best fighter , more or less.,,
Bubba, is that your hobby or you describing your favorite game(s)?
Bubba likes flying.
Flukey flies stealth fighter/bomber
Transatlantic Concorde too.
Minxy mentioned the sims. Bought it with exp's and was addicted, if a little depressed by the monotony of work every day. when do sims get to rest? They have a crapper life than I do. So, got me ikkle family to the top, filled a few neighbourhoods, got bored. With no online play it's now dead.
How long have you had it minxoo?
Final fantasy 8.
no 7 was cool, no 9 was pony, no 10 i'm still making my mind up(i've only played it for 7 hours, i'll make my mind up after about 30 hours)
street fighter 2
shinobi (master system)
super C http://www.classicgaming.com/contra/superc/superc.htm
the_did May 28, 2002, 09:12 Golden Eye on the N64 was the bollox, i very nearly failed college cause of the game, the only reason to keep the old machine in your collection
I am poor so me only got ps but me fave game has to be breath of fire 4and five.. exelante highly addictive .. sounds sad but lost me last gf to it, no mind she a bitch, he he
LTS I definately agree with FF8 and all of the Contra/Probotector series. They all rocked.
I've been reliving the old days with Sonic 3D on my PC, but it's not as good as I remembered it.
inu_asbestos May 29, 2002, 01:24 Does anybody remember flight sim 4, that rocked pretty hardcore, if only for the design-a-plane section that allowed you to build uncontrollable jet powered bullets in a vain attempt to get into orbit. They never made it, but you could reach something like mach 6 on the way down.
inu_asbestos May 29, 2002, 01:30 Oh, and while I remember, Terranova is a classic (despite the awful cutscenes) group based tactical combat, with a voxel engine that ran like a dream on the old compaq 133.
bassoon May 29, 2002, 02:11 I definitely like some of the older games, mostly because they bring back good memories, like spy hunter, dig dug, and the original Castlevania all kept me riding my bike down to the local arcade.
But, there is certainly something to be said for the newer gens. of games THPS 2 kept me playing for a long time, as well as Q3 Arena.

Kick ass game! I used to love the "Lucozade" collecting at the beginning... what amazing sponsorship for such an early game!
And yes, I did break about 3/4 joysticks playing this game.
Totally agree with the_did golden eye was the cause of many a F grade, Perfect Dark its sequal was wicked aswell.
All time best game has to be Tekken 3 on PS1 guarenteed to get you worked up and punch the wall/wardrobe/cat.

I used to HATE the swimming in it. I would be going along nicely whacking the buttons on the keyboard through the desk and then it would pop up breathe and I would miss it and stop :boil:
Other than that it was one of the best Spectrum games.

Tekken 4 on the PS2 is better :D
Yamaeh May 31, 2002, 04:33 Sinistar, Ikari Warriors, and the original Gauntlet are among my favorite old-skool arcade games. I learned everything I know about squandering hard-earned money from those loveable bastards.
Currently, I am taking a RTCW MP hiatus, having spent the better part of the last six months running bezerker-style around the internet blasting Krauts and passing out med-packs.
I'm planning on developing a nice little Grand Theft Auto addiction once all the patches are released.
netniV May 31, 2002, 11:12 Would that be Grand Theft Auto 3 on the Playstation 2? I've played that and found it to be one of the best games ever. The amount of detail, and the fun you can have with different modes of the game just by jumping in a taxi, police car, or ambulance provide some sideline entertainment when you become a li'l tired of the main game. :)
In the original, I never bothered with the missions. I just used the cheats, grabbed the nearest car (whether it was a cop car or not) and went on a tear throughout whatever city I was in.
Now thats the best way to play a GTA game :)
GTA 3 -YOU GET TO FUCK HOS IN THE BACK OF YOUR CAR
Now thats the best way to play a GTA game :D
netniV May 31, 2002, 13:58 Now that I have to agree with.
Has anyone run through the PC release of GTA3 yet. I read a bunch of mixed reviews at EB.com, primarily regarding hardware issues.
To be honest no. I wouldn't mind having a look over it though, because the playstation 2 version is just awesome.
fatboyfat Jun 4, 2002, 18:47 I've got the PC and PS2 versions... the PS2 version runs sweet as a nut but the PC version is really crap on my computer. The video jerks, the sound crackles, it's almost unplayable.
Could be my motherboard, could be my graphics card but I did expect my 1.1Gig system with 512MB RAM, a 64MB DDR Radeon and a 5.1 Audigy to play it with no problems :(
I would have to say my all time favorite games are:
Super Metroid-SNES
Final Fantasy 3 (6 in Japan)-SNES
Excite Bike-NES
netniV Jun 12, 2002, 21:20 Anyone remember Street Olymics on Commadore 64.
Nope, can't say I can. But thats not to say it probably wasn't a great game.
netniV Jun 14, 2002, 20:24 No, the graphics wheren't brilliant and it was another "Joystick Damager"
I hated games like that. I still have the remenants of a Spectrum joystick that encurred a hell of a beating. Mind you I can't actually remember the game that wrecked it.
I kind of keep it as a trophy.
Buggerlugs has the GTA3 pc game was downloaded off the net he has no trouble with it except keeping my son from nagging him to play it i hate the game because both my kids now want ps2's for xmas.
I used to be a fan of the adventure games on the old Amstrad even had a little bit of fame by getting into the Lord and Lady of Adventure pages in Amstard Action magazine.
We still have our Amiga and Buggerlugs still has his spectrum and all the games.
Im addicted to Urban Terror even though im a crap shot lol
netniV Jun 14, 2002, 20:39 I actually played Die Hard Trilogoy on my friends PS the other day as his daughter-in-law had bought him a new gun. It was definately fun to play even if it is old... although I hate having to remember to reload, even if you do get into the habit after a few seconds.
