I just saw an old Saturday Night Live on which Nirvana made their US tv debut. Dave was cranially hirsute and pounding the rusty fuck out of his drums. Cris Novawhatshisname towered over the speaker cabinets, lurching spastically and wearing a Melvins t-shirt. Kurt was playing his probably first honest-to-god left handed Fender, wearing what appeared to be a perhaps hand-made Flipper(Do you blokes know of Flipper?) shirt under a old cardigan. For once, the sound in studio 8-H was right, and the song was real and raw. They were required to play Teen Spirit, of course.
The performance was void of any contempt for the concessions we now understand that were made, but Kurt was conspicuously absent from the end-of-show lineup of cast and guests. I don't definitively know, but imagine Kurt was already long gone, locked in verbal gymnastics with his Cunt/Goddess wife.
I miss Kurt everyday. Thanks.
