View Full Version : Disabled scooters !
dave brown Nov 25, 2003, 11:57 Are these things road legal or what ?
I don't mind them on the pavements....... but when you get behind one on the road doing 2mph It's just an accident waiting to happen.
Am I right or what ?
Lintuk Nov 25, 2003, 12:13 Disabled scooters or the new electric scooter things?
dave brown Nov 25, 2003, 12:26 Those three wheeled battery things.
wildmurphy Nov 25, 2003, 17:06 should be taxed or banned from the rooad, they are illegal to use on the roads, and dangerous. And yes, old people need to be educated aboot thesedaNGEROUSLY (FOR THEM ANYWAY) QUICK MODES OF TRANSPORT..
daidavies Nov 25, 2003, 17:08 These people could probably walk, they're just being lazy. ;)
UnoChild Nov 25, 2003, 22:44 I think they are so dangerous. Especially when you've got a mad old man driving one down the pavement - with a complete disregard to people walking up and down.
Most of the old folk driving them probably cant even see properly, or are that bitter that they dont give a shit if they run somebody over anyway.
I say ban 'em, or introduce a proper driving test for them.

I say ban 'em,
I agree, fella, they smell and can be a bit boring...sometimes, all old people should be banned!
Wasn't there a story in the paper about some old person who'd managed to end up on the hard shoulder of the M4 or M25? They'd taken a wrong turn somewhere...

:haha: That is so fucking typical.....
dave brown Nov 27, 2003, 06:52 Yeah,
And how come old farts can use their electric vehicles on the roads/pavements,
But normal people with their electric/petrol scooters can't ?
Is it one rule for O.A.P's and another rule for people with a life ?

:)) :)) :))
Its pretty easy to end up on the motorway in London, drive pat the 24hour Tesco and your there.
Goat Rider Nov 28, 2003, 14:58 The bitter, twisted and horrible old people should need a license to leave the bloody house let alone on a scooter! Is it me or 99% of old people really dont give a fuck about anybody else ?

No, I also agree with that 'fact'. All you need to do is sit on a bus and listen to them rabbit on about 'young people today'. Or they barge past you on the street fucking chuntering as they go past.
The old farts....
Goat Rider Nov 30, 2003, 10:11 Old people really should be locked away in a very dark place
UnoChild Nov 30, 2003, 16:09 A cupboard perhaps?
GuinnessMeister Dec 2, 2003, 16:27 Me and some mates hired one of those scooters when we were on a piss up in Skegness. I don't think you can be done as being drunk in charge of one - because we were.
We got some terrible looks from the old people - as if we'd invaded a part of life that should be theirs and theirs alone.
They should certainly be banned from the roads - especially if they are being driven by a pissed 21 year old bloke with two mates hanging off the sides.
Fuckng things. Nuneaton, where I work, is full of the bone idle cunts. Zipping about from Wilkinsons to Woolworths, buzzing down from the 'delightful' Camphill area (cunt zone). Strange when these people, berived of the independent mobility suddenly regain full use of both legs when nipping into the shops (usually Lidl or other wank store).
Now, time to get started on those fully fit and functioning tossers who part any-fucking-where with their blue disabled badges.
Steve_ludwig Jun 9, 2006, 09:13 Yes....sorry for resurecting a 3 year old thread, but I fucking hate these Mobility Scooters..and I mean HATE. Bastard things....
Last week I followed one along a country lane for about 2 miles (felt like 50) before the scenile old cunt finally noticed me and pulled over....I restrained myself and said nothing, didnt want to give him a heart attack!
I dont see why I cant ride a go-ped down the pub, yet these scooter things are LEGALLY permitted to go on the road!!
Its bollocks anyway - the old cunts cant walk on the road or pavement but can spend literally fucking hours walking round tesco or standing up gossiping in the aisles....just pure laziness in my opinion :headbang:

They spend hours walking round tescos because supermarkets aren't built on a gradient and its just about the only place out of the house most of them can walk. I hope at the scooter haters end up with bad hips as well.

Norfolk is really flat, perhaps they should all go there! :D
A friend of mines mother has just bought one of these. Shes only in her fifties but suffers with chronic breathing difficulties and cannot walk more than a few yards without being near to virtual collapse.
Suffice to say, having one has brought her a whole new lease of life. She can now get about independently and does not have to rely on other people to take care of her daily needs.
So they might get in your way, but they are of some practical use to the people that own them. You'll be old one day...
I think I've already mentioned previously that a friend of mine runs a ShopMobility center. If you knew the people that come and go and what it brings them whether it's a motorised or manual, it makes a big difference to their lives.
Xavier Jun 13, 2006, 16:10 Would it be insensitive to start some mobility scooter motor sports? perhaps the drifting sponsored by tesco, and off-road rally sponsored by wilkos

oh, they are mostly here already
in the town where I live there must be fleets of them come from the council estate every morning
there's a stall on the market which sells them for god's sake
and you have to think that these people would mostly be better off if they did a bit of exercise rather than filling up the basket with pies from iceland.

Don't they have disabled people on private housing estates then?
Mnemosyne Jun 13, 2006, 19:35 I think that the widespread availability of scooters for people with limited mobility is great.
But I know that a proportion of these people are using them as a straightforward alternative means of transport. Many of them do not give way, pay any attention (or possibly have any knowledge of) the highway code, and are quite dangerous.
the widespread unrestricted use of them will lead to people with genuine mobility problems not getting the consideration they deserve
Cloudane Jun 14, 2006, 00:02 This is interesting.
I was intrigued by what Mr. Dogbomb had said in another thread about how the overall "mood" (left/right swing amongst other things) of the board seems to vary a lot over the years.
This thread is an excellent illustration of that - things have really changed! Like Dogbomb I'm not referring to anyone in particular, but a general "feel" upon reading through this thread.
2003---
Pros:
Everything was very light-hearted
It was clear with everyone that the above was true, so people didn't get offended much
You could get away with saying a lot of different (e.g. politically incorrect) things that you can't in other boards/communities
Nothing was really serious so there weren't many serious arguments
Cons:
No real intelligent discussion
Not the place for someone who's easily offended
Most of it was rants and such, and there are only so many times you can do such threads before it gets repetitive
2006 --
Pros:
Much more intelligent discussions
Things are discussed in depth from all angles
Threads are longer and more interesting
People aren't saying things that would get them sacked if they were in an official position ;)
Cons:
Sometimes every thread seems to turn into an argument / bitchfest due to the seriousness people now take in any subject (not really happened on this one... yet)
You have to be careful what you say because people tend to be a little more touchy / political
In a way, it's the same as most other boards
There are also only so many Controversial Subjects you can discuss to death before things start repeating.
I'm not saying one is better than the other, although in my personal opinion I preferred the old times because it was somewhere to let off steam, lark about, and rant randomly and light-heartedly about... things like this... without setting off some debate / argument. Deep down knowing about all the good that these do and all that, but just having a larf innit. There are *loads* of boards out there for serious debate and showing off what nice people we really are.
Don't get me wrong though, I still like the place and all who sail in her, else I wouldn't be here :)

Erm, I should get back on topic, huh?
I can see the benefit of them for sure, it can give people a new lease of life. But - can really anyone get hold of them? I think they should only be for people who can prove that they need them, and maybe get just a tiny bit of basic training. Nothing special, not a driving test, just tell them that they can't drive down motorways and such!
sysadm Jun 14, 2006, 00:13 I am all for moving onwards and upwards , but I do feel I have gained nothing from the time i've been here.
And I respect that.
As for mobilty scooters ,they have progressed magnificently in the last three years ,however the old twats who drive them have not.
All in all its pretty de ja vu
Cloudane Jun 14, 2006, 00:16 Much like being sat behind one of those scooters, then :D
I've only just noticed the latest title of Flambé. So much more concise than my post, yet seems to get the same point across!
