I am an Aussie and proud of it, I would like to know why Poms(excuse the reference) think that all Aussies are complete utter idiots? We are not so.
Why does it always go back to The First Fleet ? Yes this country was founded by the criminals of Britain and the Settlers but how does that reflect who we are today?
I believe the Australian people as a whole are easy going polite and hard working.

Come to Australia and see for yourself.
Or please share your Australian Experiances.

Well, it's a stereotype isn't it. The Irish are stupid, the Scots are mean, the English are stuck up, the Welsh....like sheep?

It's like saying all Americans are fat and stupid. They're not.

People may use it to poke fun, but anyone who actually believes this sort of thing is obviously a complete moron.

I wouldn't get so worked up about it.

arent they................only joking!

I found most Aussies freindly enough, but they are very straight talking and quite tactless, which can come across as arrogant and full of themselves. But overall, I like them!

btw where abouts in Oz are you from Sooty?

I love the Aussies. You couldn't meet a warmer, friendlier, generous more open and honest people if you tried. I would be extremely happy if I emigrated to Australia.
EDIT: Not too sure about the Aussie habit of putting beetroot in everything, though.

Kiwis, they're arrogant.

I like Australians. I think they're funny and in many ways similar to us Brits.
I think though, that you can tell when a bloke's Australian before he speaks. Something about the jawline......

I've never once had an opinion on Australians. Perhaps because I've never met one.

I don't think you can judge people purely on where they are from. I've met Austrailian people and not judged them on the accent, more on what they've said (rather on the voice they've said it in) or done. In my opinion there are three kinds of people in the world. The good, the evil, and those who I have no reason to dislike, but dislike anyway.

As far as I know, the only Aussies I have met in person were the owners of a fantastic diner in Scarborough; they were a fantastic couple. Concurring what unordinarychild said, I had guessed they were aussies before I heard their voices.

Most of the aussies I have come into contact with over the 'net have been pretty well humoured, but at the same time many have been 'noisy' and abrasive.

I bear Australians no general ill-will, but I don't really appreciate being called a 'Pom'.

I love the Aussies. Yes we are rivals in sport and take the piss out of each other but it's all in fun and I don't mind being called a Pom. The Aussie are a great example of our glorious Empire, and are our close allies in time of need. God Bless 'em.

I was told that the convicts that got sent to Australia had 'POME' on their prison fatigues which stood for 'Prisoner of Mother England'.

I work in a UK call centre where we patch incoming calls between an office in Boston and an office in Sydney depending on availability. As a whole the staff in Boston are rushed and quick-shove, trying to get you out of their call queue as quickly as possible, whereas the staff in Sydney are pleasant, actually let you finish a sentence, have a much more relaxed attitude, and are more available because they help people out the first time round.

I much prefer the second approach. The Aussie staff have a sense of humour as well :)

Most of the Aussies i have met have been pretty cool, like all countries they will have good and bad people, wrong to stereotype a nation.

There is an old convict settlement on the Western Australia where some convicts inscribed their names with POHMIE (Prisoners Of Her Majesty In Exile).

Aussies are a lot less frightened than Poms are. They have all of the better qualities of Brits and fewer of the worse qualities (notice how they did not riot or burn down the stadium when they lost the rugby).

They are not representative of Empire because that assumes that those at the centre of Empire can run things better than those out the outposts (nobody who has been in a train, a hospital or a school in both countries would prefer the English over the Australian, not even for sentimental reasons).

I don't really appreciate being called a 'Pom'.

Why not? Do Welsh people hate being called Taffys, or Irish Paddys, or Americans (even those from Southern states) Yanks? If they did, would you care?
