I was thinking about the news that Saddam had been captured finally and is now a prisoner of war and accorded all the rights under the Geneva Convention as such (only because he's high profile though) and will be tried for crimes against humanity. To think, he was once one of Americas favourite guys in the Middle East.
It seems that the people who put him into power and gave him aid in the form of money, training and weapons in his early days will get off without any punishment. these are the people who should be held up before the world as the true criminals. These are the people who basically encouraged and helped him to become what he is today. These are the people who should be held accountable but they wont beause they were 'just doing their job'.
Does anyone else see this as an issue?

I have a suspicion that he will die in some mysterious way, maybe during a 'rescue attempt'. I'm sure there is a lot of information in his posession, which will not be allowed into the public domain.
Sorry but you know too much !

Yes, of course they should. They're accessories at the very least and possibly even co-conspirators. I can't see the US under the current administration allowing their citizens to face international justice though.
I agree Gentreau. I'm only surprised they've captured him alive. Do you think it really is him? How can even they be sure?

I understand they did a DNA test, that's why they did the scraping from inside his mouth.

Half of them are dead. Jimmy Carter is chiefly responsible (Saddam was anticommunist and anti-Iran back in the late '70s, back when these things mattered) but he has done plenty of community service since. I'll be interested to see Michael Moore's film on the Bush family oil interests in the Middle East. Look at the Frogs, the real reason they are frustrating the Yanks is not high principle but low embarrassment.

I agree, see my post in the torture thread
