I have just installed a copy of Windows XP-pro with intergrated service pack 1.

Everything seems to be fine, all my drivers are up to date. All my hardware is working. Until I tried to install games or large apps.

I was trying to install return to castle wolfenstien, it got about 45% and stopped. I was met with
BSOD with a message about it had shut down my machine to protect it as I might be installing something harmful.

Unreal torny does the same

I don't have a virus checker running on it at the mo, so its not that. I am the Administrator so its not that.

Anyone else know what it might be.

Cheers

MH

Sounds like a PCI latency problem conflicting with your SB card. No, really. I'm guessing you have a VIA chipset on your motherboard?
The easiest test to see if this is correct, is remove the sound card, and see if it runs ok.
If I'm right, check out the VIA forums for the fix, at http://forums.viaarena.com/

I believe VIA LATENCY PATCH is what you are after, but have a browse around for anything specific for your motherboard.

I would say thats a bloody good guess. I do have a via chipset. Cheers for the link. I will check it out.
