Possibly in league with Greggs, but I fing Merrie England coffee shops slighty addictive aswell. The beef and onion rolls are rather good. However, they always seem a bit seedy, smelly and in need of thorough make over from psuedo Tudor to hmmmm, pseudo blitz? Can anyone clarify if they are a West Yorkshire only thing too, I normally loiter in the Halifax one when Mrs Bug is shopping and haven't seen them in other parts of the country. I so need to go upmarket.

Went in one on Saturday in Huddersfield, not bad coffee, but the kids said their pop was like rat piss.

Plenty of folk in though !

Merry England is ok, but the cheapest and tastiest coffee shop in Huddersfield is Coffee Evolution, although it is generally full of irritating college students.

Never heard of them but when I find one, I will try it and report back

I think it could well be, but I have not done any in depth research. If I get really desperate for 5 minutes I might find out.

Merrie England, yes a strange one but on the way to Oxford, (off M40 I think) there is a large one (drive in) with carpark and yes I couldn't believe it. Anyone know exact location, somewhere near Silverstone.

Well Kids. I couldn't really be arsed, but seeing as I started the post I did a google search fro Merrie England Coffee shops. The first result was this post. WOW!

I also came to the conclusion that they have shops in:
Bradford, Brighouse, Halifax, Huddersfield, Keighley and............................................... ....Alton Towers.

Head Office is in Huddersfield and the Bradford shop was "saved" by customers.

Don't make any special effort to visit as they really aren't that good depite what I said at the start.

I really need to get out more.

Mr Bug, when in Halifax go to Cafe Culture (round the corner from the oh-so-grand Victoria Theatre and next to McClouds). They don't put fag ash in the sarnies like they do in Merrie, and you can't sit outside to admire the large number of teenage mums, but it's worth the extra 30p for a cup of coffee.

I got bitten by a flea in the Exeter branch of Costa once- have never been in one since.
Have never heard of Merrie England coffee shops, I think they must just be a northern thing.
