More info about it at http://www.macrumors.com/ All will be revealed on 6th Jan Squalion Jan 4, 2004, 01:22 nice..800 songs is enough for anybody. at £65 it'd be worth getting over an MP3 player..unless size is an issue. dogbomb Jan 5, 2004, 14:35 Squalion spouted: 800 songs is enough for anybody. Please don't class me as "anybody". I need my music. All music. 800 songs just DOESN'T cut it for me. Squalion Jan 5, 2004, 17:11 Okay. "800 songs is enough for anyone as long as they don't have t spend 53 hours away from their pc (and awake) and can't bear to listen to same song twice within a space of 3 days" or just can never be bothered to use the transfer software more than once in a lifetime. crush proof Jan 6, 2004, 13:52 Now that really pisses me off after spending E350 for 10MB iPod before Christmas, I think I'll bring it back. Sucks ass that they are all so expensive...I had to work two months to pay off mine when I got it...the bad thing is that it isnt even the current kind anymore. It doesnt have the row of buttons under the screen and above the scroll wheel...it just has the circle of buttons around the wheel...none of the stuff coming out now is designed for mine, so I feel kinda cheated. fucking a... fireboy Jan 6, 2004, 19:43 crush proof spouted: Now that really pisses me off after spending E350 for 10MB iPod before Christmas, I think I'll bring it back. heh heh heh. Sorry, but come one, surely common sense said, january sales, wait a bit ? wintershox Jan 7, 2004, 11:48 Unfortunately the price quoted on that site is wildly inaccurate. Go to http://www.apple.com/ipodmini/ to see for yourself. The old iPod v2 10GB cost £249, the v3 15GB costs £299. Apple have a marvelous ability to translate $ = £, therefore, as quoted on the official site, the 15GB iPod is $299, and an iPod Mini is $249.. 4GB for $249, (which will translate to £249, thanks to Apple's genius currency conversion rates,) or 15GB for $299/£299.. The new pods are NOT good value for money, and regardless of how they might look, the value for money aspect will win over almost every European. BUT, the pricing issue is something that could change in a year; as a friend of mine states: "The drive space thing is a miniaturisation and price problem. New ultra miniature 2 gig drives came out recently which sell for about $70 in lots of 100,000. So Apple is probably paying slightly more than that for the 4 gigs, and they probably need to have at least a 50% margin, which makes price squeezing kinda tight." fireboy Jan 7, 2004, 12:33 Available to order in the US now. Available worldwide in April hrmms, going by the rate at which proces change in the market place / newer faster smaller solutions i would like to think the price had come down, but at the sort of prices they are offering there - you might as well spend that few extra dollars and buy the daddy ipod, ok it is a little larger, but come on, there is not all that in it for size - unless you were an ant, or small arborial creature, then i cold understand the need for smaller. UnoChild Jan 7, 2004, 14:45 There is yet more info here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/3373031.stm). Doesn't make sense buying one to me. According the prices stated on the bbc website, the 4gb mini-ipod will only be around £30 cheaper than the 15gb ipod (formerly 10gb). Personally, i still intend on buying a 40gb ipod. PooperScooper Jan 7, 2004, 16:01 For me, having an Ipod is the equivilent of wearing Gap clothes: everybody and his mother has them, and for that reason I refused to jump on the bandwagon. However if these new mini ipods are as cheap as the say they are ( for now i seriously doubt it) then I might be tempted to join the ipod craze. But every time Apple announce a new product Creative follows suit with something similar at a cheaper price. I beleive they have already announced a 4gb device about a month ago. I'm personally looking forward to a 1.8" hd based creative player. I'm gonna wait and see what they come up with. Bungeeboy Jan 7, 2004, 21:53 well, if you do want one, or an original ipod, or anything else Apple, then computer warehouse are pretty damn good normally. You can look at all the pretty colours of the mini ipods here: http://www.cwonline.co.uk/index.tpl?cart=3282500457587985&type=ipod&feature=computer-feature&listing=comp salsa Jan 7, 2004, 22:02 I want a pink one !!! Now Sderiously si there a way you can hook these up to your car stereo? PooperScooper Jan 9, 2004, 13:53 You can get a casette adaptor thingy for most mp3 players. You hook it into the earphone socket and put the casette into the car stereo and play as normal. Pokemink Jan 9, 2004, 14:24 That'll work, but I've seen a neater solution. It's a FM transmitter that plugs into iPod, so all you gotta do is tune your FM car radio into frequency x, and it'll pick up the music being transmitted from the device. I can't be arsed to go find it, but I seem to remember it was only about $35, or maybe £35. Oh sod it, I've gone and got it for you. Here it is: http://www.digitallyunique.net/digitally-unique/f8v367apl.html In my experience, Belkin gear is ace quality, and $23 is peanuts, so go get it. And these iPod minis are great, aren't they? I've probably only got about 100 CDs, and most of them are shit, so 1000 songs will do me fine. Be ace if it had a FM radio on it as well. I'll get one right away. dogbomb Jan 12, 2004, 15:08 Squalion spouted: or just can never be bothered to use the transfer software more than once in a lifetime. I use mine at least once a week. I get approximately 15+ CD's every week and every week I take this chance to dump stuff I have listened to and dislike or don't intend to review... and refill it with stuff I _might_ like, or may review in the future. salsa Jan 12, 2004, 17:46 That is fantastic, now im a happy lady. Best thing is i dont need to leave the pod out in the car, it can be in my handbag :D Ginsoakedboy Jan 16, 2004, 00:04 Surely 4gb is enough for anyone as a music player? I've 20gb of music on my laptop as I write, but to be honest, a lot of it is shite. Unless you're going exploring in the arctic for 6 months, then really, why? (and where would you charge it?) And Salsa - you need one of those efforts that turns your IPod into a radio transmitter. I know little about them, not having an IPod myself, but basically, they broadcast a signal from yr mp3 player for a very short range. You just tune yr car radio to the signal and you're away. i think they were recently made illegal in the UK due to broadcasting restrictions blah blah, but then, copying any copyrighted material to an mp3 player is illegal, and I don't reckon they're busting people for that.
