hi all

Need help on choice off card as there is a sale on in my local PC shop

at moment i have

geforce 4 440mx 128mb x8 agp

and these are on sale

creative FX 5600 128mb x8 agp £89.00
creative FX 5600 XT 256mb x8 agp £110.00
point of view geforceFX 5800 Ultra £150.00

I run a pretty standard system only used for F1 simulator
Athlon 2.6xp
win 98se
512k cache pc 2700
20gig w/d 7200rpm
gigabyte 7 vac mobo
creative 5.1 sound card platinium
creative 5.1 sound system

when i play F1 challenge 99 02 at the moment on a full grid get fps 28 then after few bends 85fps when no ther car in view 98 to 102 fps

all in 1024x768 16bit

which one off these above cards will give me best performance gain for this kind off game i am playing.

also wanting dx9 full support for need for speed underground as it will not run properly with the card i have at the moment.


any help guys would be great though i need to buy it before Saturday off this week.

i have the fx5600 128...wasnt as dear as that but works dandy for all my shoot-em ups:)

i have a fx card cost me a ton and it is sweeeta but you should shop about as just because your shop is having a sale it does not mean you could not aquire thingd cheaper elsewhere you know !!!!

mine was an extra £48 in exchange for a 64meg card when i bought the system:)

Q. which is better though?:D

biggest performance increase is the 5800 card.
If you're only intending to play F1 challenge, then it may not be worth spending out on that much card.

All of those cards will give you a big gain, as your MX card is a pretty low performer (by todays standards), i.e. bottom of the geforce4 range. High end geforce3 cards are quicker. The cards you are looking at are middle of the geforce FX range.

Its a system just for this sim.I just wanted a better card for around£180.00 all i have got left after buying my extreme cockpit from www.hyperstim.com

I am a complete adict to these games F12002 aand F1 c 99 02 plus all the mods.Just as some are buying cards to peform better in Quake3 counterstrike etc.

so with what said the fx 5800 ultra would be the one?

the 5600 cards were terrible!! really really bad compared to the competitors. if you can avoid them, then do so.
