I have just seen the latest RAF advert, and I must say after the last 23 1/2 years spent in the RAF, I was not treated as valued at all, mainly the last 10 years. I was treated as shit mainly because I wasn't travelling the world playing sport, away doing secondary duties ( e.g. being part of a club, or something that was taken me away from my primary role).

My photo shows me as a Corporal which I was made in 1987 and this photo was taken in 199 so I had been 9 years as a Corporal, I was promoted to Sergeant in 2003, after spending 16 years as a Corporal.

That advert is a false truth.

Do you feel valued in what you do?

I vary from lots to not at all depending on who I have dealt with that day, and what I have managed to do.

Way Off Subject, I Was Gunna Ask. THe Guy Who Gets The Splinter, Who Is He? I Recognise Him (From A Kids Show A While Back Perhaps?) But Cant Put My Finger On It. Any Clues?

I dont feel valued in my job - luckily I'm not trying to make a career out of it. The staff turnover rate at our place speaks for itself.

hmm..

Old owners (Boots) yes, thank you.
New oweners (CVC) you're joking right?

Make hundreds of staff redundant, expect remaining staff to do the work of the redundant ones ASWELL, while introducing new schemes with 2 days notice (if youre lucky)

then we get to christmas. Boxing day, half 3 (shop closes at four) fax comes through "we expect, if possible, that stores should aim to stay open until 5, as footfall is so high.."

everybody's xmas plans out of the window then. I didnt stay.

and there's the constant buying of dangerous cheap shite for us to sell (90% return on electric scooters so far) and endless shite spot buys.

Valued my arse.

NO, I do not feel valued. Not by the patients or by the staff. Came very close indeed this week to walking out!! Unfortunatley the NHS is mostly run on good will, hence I stayed.

Ace_mcfly said: "I dont feel valued in my job." I'm the same. Been in my job nearly 5 years. Working for C&U You know "You can do it when you C&U it!" (Check the alphabet & go back 1!) They pay £4.78 an hour & expect everyone to be able to do everyone elses job, so they don't have to pay any more money! They're just waiting to sell out to Home Depot of America and make shit-loads of cash for the directors...Bastards!

Daze (and all other nurses out there) - I honestly don't know how anyone can be a nurse nowadays with the constant amounts of shite that you have to put up with. My hat's off to the lot of you. I wish there were more people like you around.

My job... I like it. Do I feel valued? Yeah. I'm asked my opinion on matters, and I'm an expert at certain areas of my work, which means that there is a certain amount of 'importance' attached to the job. I am able to say whether certain things are possible or not, and give advice on the best way to to things. In this respect, I'm fairly happy with what I'm doing, and the way that I'm treated - add that to the benefits I get (free accomodation, car and the chance to live in Italy) and all in all it is not a bad lot.

BTW - Tiny - my Dad did 22 years in the RAF, and spent almost all of them as corporal - he was promoted to sergeant about a year before he finished.

Everyone has to buy it because the government won't buy it. ;)

It seem quite alot of people being caught like that, they are hoping that the promotion will make you stay in.

Thankfully I`m now fortunate enough to be self-employed. I still have nightmares due to some of the shit I`ve had to put up with from smarmy twats who go on a 2 week management courses and then walk around with severe spinal injuries due to their heads being stuffed up their own arses because they think that they`ve just passed a Physics degree or something.

Swaning around in their "hilairious" donald duck clip on ties telling people to work late.

Utter pricks, the lot of them.

Fair play to the nurse on here. (aswell as all nurses infact) I think you`re all too good natured for your own good.

Makes me sick when Firefighters whine about "low" pay when all they do is put out skip fires and hang around the station reading bongo mags. Whilst the nurses are running round like blue arsed flies for less.

See, look what you`ve made me do! You remind me of former employers and I rant.

Oh well, all is good now. I answer to nobody and that`s how it`s staying until I start pushing up flowers.

Good for you Sloth, long may you succeed. I was self employed with my own business
for 13 years but eventually got dragged down thanks to the advance in technology. That's why I'm now at B&R. Cue "Always look on the bright...etc."

I used to work in that said DIY "super"store also (when I was a student) for around 4 months.

I used to work the night shift and I just simply hated it, I looked at my watch so many times while I was there that I just stopped wearing it in the end. You can actually feel your soul being drained as you restock paint.

Human beings are not supposed to live this way.

I recieved notification of a pay raise today! YES! A whole £360. Per annum. The more astute amongst you will notice that equates to roughly 95p per day. And my wage sucks anyway. I hate my job, I hate this industry. There is no light at the end of this tunnel. I do not feel like a precious snowflake.

EDIT: Although, I do have all the broadband internet I can access.

I recently changed careers - was trying to do self-employed computer repairs - but it was getting to stressful fukin about with shitbox computers stuffed with crap (either dead skin cells, dog hair, or tea - not even mentioning hard-drives) so I've bailed on that, and working towards a teaching qualification at the local college, while I part-time film stuff for a local tv channel and teach video editing and other media skills. Plus I run my own business web-designing.

I'm happy?

Hell yes!

The money is slowly improving, so I can look for a place of my own soon - and the view ain't bad at times either ;)

Yeah SLOTH, I started on the "nightcrew" or "twilight" as Q&Q used to call us. Funnily (not) daystaff used to refer to us as "the living dead". Which just about sums up how valued you are as an employee!

The RAF has changed over the years - if you don't feel valued enough - why not try doing something about it instead of moaning about it on a website?

How do you think us officers feel, eh?

I used to love my job but resent events have pissed me off so much that im now getting desperate for new employment.

Rescue & Recovery is one dangerous occupation and its getting worse by the day. We do work for all the main clubs (AA, RAC GREEN FLAG etc) All we get from the AA is motorway recovery, and multi-story carparks as its so much easier to risk the life of a contract driver on the M25 and let him injure his back lugging a car-jack up 6 flights of stairs rather than sending a patrol that can drive in. AA patrols are without doubt the laziest bunche of bastards on the road and will happyly watch a stranded motorist sitting on the motorway from the services where they are parked.

I have had wankers try to turn their engines over while I have my hands under the bonnet, been assaulted while loading a vehicle on the motorway, threatened with lumps of wood, knifes and a gun and had dogs set on me while assisting the police raiding a pikey site. Believe me when I say the money is not worth the aggro.

I used to love this job, everyday was different from running down to Devon to uprighting a 50ton unit and trailer. Now its just shit and fucking dangerous. Im out of here ASAP.

I think I have the right to moan about it, I spendt 23 1/2 years in the RAF and was over looked for promotion time and time again. I have left now (June 2003) and I feel more valued in the job I have now than in the last ten years of the RAF.

And you officers are the biggest problem the RAF has got. Being a Pilot Officer you have just began and have alot to learn, so don't come the big I am with it won't wash with me now.

My actual job is ok, but the people I work with are shite. I work for Local Government, as a HR Officer, the pay is shocking, but the work is a piece of piss. I'm off on maternity leave in 9 weeks anyway, so what do I care if I'm valued!
