View Full Version : Toni & Guy - Is It Worth It? justbecause Jan 18, 2004, 10:45 Does anyone get their hair cut at 'Toni & Guy' and is it worth the extortionate prices they charge? Ugh_tC Jan 18, 2004, 11:07 How much is extortionate? ffa01 Jan 18, 2004, 11:17 £80 for a trim/male... the chair space is rented, hence the prices:( salsa Jan 18, 2004, 11:55 I went there once and I was really dissapointed. They were really disinterested in what I wanted, and just wanted to chat to each other about bullshit. Never again, made me realise how much i adore my hairdresser. AnthillMob Jan 18, 2004, 12:25 i dont understand why people pay a mint for a haircut when they could go to a bog standard hairdressers and get exactly the same for a third of the price. its vaniy, thats what it is. its like wearing labels (clothes) - oh look at me, i get my hair cut in sean hannah and you dont you pauper". Ugh_tC Jan 18, 2004, 12:38 I go to the expensive hairdressers in town - but even then, a cut is only £15. And damn fine too might I add! But £80? Feck me! Pass me a hedgetrimmer... fireboy Jan 18, 2004, 12:59 /me has been in once and they would not cut my hair unless they also gave it a wash and a condition - now i dislike hairdressers more than traffic wardens and i was only in *that* one has i was unable to find any others - but i have religiously godly clean hair which is how i want it apart from when i sleep so cheeky bastards We have two others that i have used where i live now, a barbers - which rocks, (they sold/almost gave me a strop for my razor) and then a salon - which is also pretty good, the hairdresser is *very* nice and a snip at £13 :D Toni and Guys is a con in comparision, particulary for men but people seem tp not realise the difference between something just being expensive and then costing a lot because it is worth it. Just because, run away run away :D justbecause Jan 18, 2004, 13:38 Last time I looked in T&G's window (about a fortnight ago) it's said 30quid for wash, cut & blow-dry. I got it done yesterday (elsewhere) for 15 quid by a very friendly and helpful stylist and I was given some great coffee and offered cake and biscuits! Bet T&G's aren't so generous! Reason I asked was I have one friend who always goes there and she always has great looking hair and another who went once and they made a complete bodge of it! salsa Jan 18, 2004, 14:27 I had mine done in a place called Obsession once, and it was £92 for a half head colour and a cut. It was the worst cut I have had and completely uncontrollable or do'able unless you are a stylist. J Arthur Rank Jan 18, 2004, 19:17 A number 3 with the Remmington does me. salsa Jan 18, 2004, 19:33 Thats the best haircut for boys, or a number 1 or 2. Lush, preddy. velcro  Zelda Jan 19, 2004, 10:02 Never been into a posh hairdresseing outlet. Looks a bit scary. i'll stick with Russ, my superduper hairdressser. Ronin Da Bomb Jan 19, 2004, 11:10 I Was Gunna Post Exactly The Same Thing. Its Only £50 For A Male Style Here In Luton. I Havent Had My Hair Cut In Over 3 1/2 Months And Really Need It Done. However, I Want A New Style And Wondered If It Was Worth Me Trying It Just Once, Even If IT Was Just For Them TO Change My Hair Completly daze Jan 19, 2004, 13:00 Not worth it at all. Paying a kings ransom does not mean they will cut it how you want it!! Im off to get mine all chopped off today. It will cost about £50 which is a good price and it will be done by someone I trust :) drnoble Jan 19, 2004, 18:01 J Arthur Rank spouted: A number 3 with the Remmington does me. yup - me too - i would never pay that much for a haircut my sister once got her hair cut in T&G for free, as it was a trainee hairdresser :) sallyride Jan 19, 2004, 18:59 i had that to, it was in front of a class of budding hairdressers. There was a T&G person laying in wait outside my uni and when i strolled by with bangs i had just mucked up and cut too short, they pounced. I thought, 'oh well, it's free, and how bad could it be? they gave me the proverbial pixie/bowl do which looked...really silly. Also pd to have it cut and coloured there once and it was like an assembly line, they all but made me say moooooo. not worth it!!! wbps Jan 20, 2004, 09:22 Being a chap, I've never seen the sense in an expensive haircut. I can see why women go for it as a social thing, colouring, more complicated cuts etc, but when guys pay £40 for a short back and sides (£7.50 from my hairdresser!) and then boast about it...? Small Penis Disorder, if you ask me. Ell Jan 20, 2004, 10:10 I've been in there a couple of times - Its not worth paying the silly prices. They all seem to have their hair in the same kind of style and think you want yours doing the same - last time - despite my protests that she was drying my hair to "big" and spiky - I came out looking like a dandelion clock and had to run to the public loo's to use copious amounts of hairspray to flatten it back down. My mate went in and the dried her long hair all across her face in the same kind of way you see in magazines - I'm all for people having a "fashionable" haircut - but they take it too far! They do what they wanna do - not what you ask them.In my experience anyway- maybe their not all the same. Kinky McFoxxy Jan 20, 2004, 11:11 I went to my local hairdresser's, had a scalp and hair consultation (to see what kind of shampoo and conditioner to use), a cut consultation, a head and shoulder massage and the best haircut I've ever had. I was given money off vouchers for their beauty salon and for my next visit. The place is really nice and the stlyists are all really young and trendy. It cost £22. How good is that? cor_innit Feb 2, 2004, 08:15 I need to go to a different hairdresser. I usually go to a coupla Italian guys and get it all hacked back about every six weeks. Now I haven't had a cut since October, and I quite like it - very bushy. I think I need a bit of advice but if it's too much work, fuck it! Same as usual, Sergio! neildeal Feb 3, 2004, 15:35 Cos i work in soho i get my hair cut here. Can't really go anywhere else due to time constraints. There's NO way i'm getting it done on a saturday. It costs me 23 quid for a wash and cut (have to wash due to hair wax). Which i think is bloody expensive considering the amount of hair i've got. They do do a good job, pretty down to earth and you get a bottle of beer. It's called the wacky barbour by the way Mr. Biscuit Feb 6, 2004, 13:33 All mine costs is the newspaper I lean over whilst I'm busy with the clippers - blade zero so I don't have to do it again for a coupe of months! I was in there for about 5 mins, when i came out there was the same people stood on the pavement!! Worst haircut of my life. Had to get it cut really short somewhere else jason4004 Feb 9, 2004, 13:33 Yes I would use T& G, I use to go in Manchester but it was costing £32.00, that's a lot. I found myself in a town called halifax one day and saw a Toni & Guy, I went in and asked for a price and it was £22.00, I've been going there for 2 years and it has'nt gone up. Prices vary for location and rental values. So if your in the area. Barnacle Bill Feb 10, 2004, 12:05 neildeal spouted: Cos i work in soho i get my hair cut here. It's called the wacky barbour by the way I go to Wacky Barber in St Albans ! excellent service Zelda Feb 10, 2004, 12:10 I'm going into Regis to let a junior hairdressser colour my hair in. £15 for that. £50 if I let a qualified body to it. piercedprincess Feb 10, 2004, 13:19 Wouldnt even consider it. Full of pretentious wankers in their designer get ups , poncing around thinking they are better than everyone else. What a fookin rip off anyway, id rather get me bonce done for 30 notes and have a good night on the piss than spend it sucking up to a ripoff corporation such as tony and guy. Nuff Said. :) DoodleBug Feb 12, 2004, 00:54 I think prices get cheaper as you go up North. Ms Bug went to T&G in Darlington and it cost her £32. Still pricey, but she was happy. Mine costs £4.50 at the local barbers. Lived in Warwickshire, same type of local barbers cost £12! Lil' al Feb 15, 2004, 12:39 They always give you a mullet as well- no matter what you ask for. Best bargain haircuts I've found is the Vidal Sassoon Advanced Academy in London- the haircut + colour costs no more than £6 and is usally free and it's done by trained stylists who are being trained to cut the Vidal Sassoon styles- you do run the risk of looking like you're on permanent day release from Shoreditch or 'The Salon' though. |
