After yesterdays appauling game, isnt it about time Houliier resigned? I have always thought his (few) succeses were more luck than judgement and he cant take us any further.

What do you guys think?

I think Liverpool done ever so well ysterday :)

They were just beaten by a superior side.

Having said that, Houllier seems to be too much of a nice bloke to be manager of a football club, losing doesnt seem to bother him much at all.

I thought Hoddle was to follow Spachan at the Saints' helm?

Definitely time for Houllier to sling his hook, although I do wonder what Scousers will find to whinge about once their football team is back on track. Probably start supporting Everton.

Houllier's days are coming to an end. His excuses are so repetitive its untrue. Can't see him being in charge for the start of next season even if LFC get 4th place.

Why are Liverpool fans pissing thier pants? Every single big football team in the whole of Europe has periods of domination then underachievement. When Liverpool were dominant in the seventies and eighties Real Madrid were crap. Man United and Arsenal were crap for years in the eighties and they will be crap again sometime in the future. Ajax, Bayern Munich, Benfica, whoever, it happens to all of them. YOU CANNOT WIN ALL THE FUCKING TIME. Stop fucking whining.

RE. Lets start a rumour!!!!!

and joba, I understand that there will be a "cycle" over the years, but can you see the Directors of a football club accept that for an excuse? Think of all the money thats lost out on. If (more like when) Leeds go down, will Leeds fans say,"Oh well. We`ve had a good run, our turn to be crap"

..................your only bitter cuz your team havent had their winning turn yet!!!

Leeds have been down there fairly recently so it won't be a massive shock to them. Liverpool are hardly going down either, they could end up in the CL and winning the UEFA Cup by the end of the season which is hardly the same.

As for Everton, we won the league a couple of times when I was a kid so I've seen plenty of success. And at least I'm actually from Liverpool unlike all the 'Clive from Berkshire' types who ring up 6-0-6 and complain about Houllier in thier plummy voices.

Liverpool fans are 'pissing their pants' because surely any decent supporter wants their team to win all the time. Or do you put a limit on how much you want Everton to win "ooohh we've won 15 times this season and that's our lot boys, time to loose"

This cycle thing may be true be it doesn't mean you have to like it when you have your crap patch. Accept it, yes, like it, no way.

I think most fans accpet not winning as part and parcel. It just annoys me when glory hunters start moaning the second something doesn't go their way.

I agree with Sammy on this one. Liverpools most reliable and efficient players are the home grown ones like Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard etc. The downfall of the team came with the purchase of players such as Salif Diao, El Hadji Diouf. Houllier should stay till the end of the season and then leave. It'd time for a change, and he's had his chance.

Far too many average buys over the past few years has seen Liverpool where they are now.
All the top teams have a few good back up players for when there are injuries. Liverpool have relied on Owen and Gerrard for years. It's always been on the cards that they would have problems if Owen was injured or had a run of bad form.

This is COMPETITIVE sport, you dont "take turns"!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any "fan" saying is not their turn at the top etc is NOT a fan!!!!!

If you dont want to be top and win everything that is going you dont deserve to play/coach/manage etc!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be great if Capello took over for next season, because he is one of the best coaches in the world. Like Joba says, he has won leagues with practically every team he has coached (it was Real in Spain and not Atletico).

Liverpool have gone stale under Houllier, and even though I acknowledge he has improved the team from when he took over, they are now starting to go backwards. It would be best if someone like Capello came in and Houllier mover 'upstairs', because he still has connections across Europe which no doubt would come in handy.

As for Owen leaving, Liverpool would survive that, but if Stevie G left it would be a disaster.

question for you lot:

if success meant losing the long held anfield tradition of building from the liverpool youth team and building a team of fourigners. and i don't just mean foreigners for the short tearm until we have a base to build from but a constant stream of them coming in. would you be happy or sad?

UnoChild
Mar 1, 2004, 13:14
Well, the fact is, that we have a stream of foreigners coming in all the time anyway. Look at the two new players - Le Tallec and Siname Pongolle - hot prospects but foreign. I can't actually remember the last British player we bought - i think Steve Finnan is the closest and he's Irish.

Look at the signings over the last couple of years - Cheyrou,, Salif Diao, El Hadju Diouf, Milan Baros, Harry Kewell.

The irony of all this being, that the best and most reliable players in the squad are the homegrown players - such as Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen, Danny Murphy, Jamie Carragher.

I don't mind a team full of foreigners, as long as they have the same quality as the players at Arsenal, or Chelsea. However, the vast majority of liverpools players are not up to scracth and are not as good as the homegrown players.

a few of the players coming through the liverpool youth team that i think would do well in the coming years

john welsh (gerrard style player)
jon otsemobor (strong centre back)
neil mellor (striker)

they just need their chances in the squad.

baros is still a good player. he's proved that over the last two games but has had a lot of injuries.

the same goes for cheyrou, loads of injuries but is ment to be the next zz.

i'd class kewell as british since he's been here for a good 10 years my self. :)

diao and diouf are just plain crap.
