As in that thing from Valve that organises all your Half-life multiplayer games into one neat package.

Except it keeps popping up whenever I restart and seems to have removed itself from "Add/Remove Programs".

I curse its name as I type.

Anybody else use it? Or know how to kill it dead... as dead as a dead terrorist person thing?

its designed to start with your system. just set it not to.

I use it. Basically to kill the auto-starting of steam, goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run and remove the Steam entry. Then if you installed it with the default settings then goto start -> run and enter:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\UNWISE.EXE" "C:\Program Files\Steam\INSTALL.LOG"

all on one line.

No can do, son. Unfortunately they overlooked a "disable" feature.

for the record its easier than that to stop it starting. start button > run > type in msconfig > go to startup tab and uncheck the box next to steam.

you can use this method for anything that starts with windows.

Erm. That takes longer, so isn't exactly easier ;-) Just less dangerous.

i didnt mean through playing with it. just in general. macs have no registry. neither does linux. why use such a complicated thing when it has been shown its not really needed. 1 badly placed corrupted entry can fubar your entire system.

So can one badly placed entry in a single solitaire INI file on Linux, and it's harder to locate within there unless in either system unless you know what your doing.
