View Full Version : Button On Pole!
No, not Morris Dancing.
Jenson Button has just got his FIRST pole position in a four year formula one career!
BRUM!
(Oh, and Schuey Twoey, so thats all good :D)
PS, I'm thinking of starting a new kids tv programme based on Formula One. "Where's Raikkonen?"
The idea being that you have to seek out the formula one driver amongst varying crowd scenes at Grand Prix around the world, usually in the grandstand, where he gets to watch the rest of the race :D
Do you think it will work???
Hint, he's the sour faced one at the back.
Ugh_tC Apr 24, 2004, 13:22 YAY!
Still think the editing after he crossed the line was superb:
Extreme Close Up off car over line.
Cut to:
Team Jumping About Happily
Cut to:
A very sour looking head of Ferrari
Class!
Ugh_tC Apr 24, 2004, 13:23 Plus the editing just prior to Button going out was interesting and had me in stitches. Suprised Brundel didn't pick-up on it - as there were a few shots of womens chests since there wasn't anything else to shoot in the BAR garage.
Cameraman:
"Ahem, just checking focus..."

As long as the person who finds him gets to strangle him! Snarky-faced little git!
May Ron Dennis rue the day he ever gave the evil tempered little bastard a McLaren drive when he could have showed a bit of loyalty to his by far superior former test driver, Heidfeld.
And by the way, congrats to Jens for getting Pole.
Ugh_tC Apr 25, 2004, 14:19 And a second place within the GP itself!
Fantastic start - shame the BAR couldn't keep at that pace all the way through, but nice going nontheless.
netniV Apr 25, 2004, 14:20 I think they intentionally held off the pace. If they achieved first, they people would start expecting it a lot more. And when you look at the fact that Williams and McClaren are no where right now.. it's bizairre anyway.
I vaguely remember when it was only ever McClaren / Ferrari
Steveyrc Apr 25, 2004, 14:21 That Ralph is a dirty bastard. Thats twice now this season he's been under investigation for dodgy tactics
netniV Apr 25, 2004, 14:22 Oh, and sorry to say but I have zero clue what happened between lap 30/62 and lap 4/62.... as I actually fell asleep ... but yay i woke up for the end.
The only things that need answering realyl now are about the close calls.
Ugh_tC Apr 25, 2004, 14:25 Well - came close to calling but thought "nah, he'll upset me..." :p
Hahah. I missed the cameramen doing the tit footage, but Mr Minx told me about it. As for the race, well, the outcome either way for me would have been fantastic. I love Button and Schumacher, and I love watching Maclaren fuck up time after time after time, so all in all, a happy outcome.
I think BAR are going to be the only realistic challenge to Ferrari this season, but I don't think they are quite strong enough. I think Jenson Button has the capacity and the drive to achieve race wins, but I think a lot of it will come down to either driver error on Michaels part or luck with the tyres and fuel strategy on the day. Michael will always have the upper hand as far as experience and confidence go.
Williams are too busy in-house fighting, and both drivers leave at the end of this season, so neither has anything to gain by team loyalty or by making an effort to push.
Maclaren had a whole year to work on that car, and still didnt manage to pull anything remotely reliable out of the bag. Alonzo has not seen anything like his previous form, and is no real challenge. Everyone else is completely overshadowed by Ferrari.
And don't get me started on Mini Mika. And what is with the "Michael Ball" look that Coulthard is wearing this season? Please, David, for me, retire gracefully now, before you end up leaving with the same amount of dignity that Jacques Villeneuve ended up leaving with last season.

Well, Sato's car did go bang! They had a nice comfy lead over third, so it made sense. Possible wins towards the end of the season, and plenty next season, I wager.
netniV Apr 26, 2004, 09:35 I was meaning before Sato's car. Anyway, Button has shown that he can do what's needed, but now needs the car to keep up.
For whatever reason, the car lost pace after that first tire change, plus the scheduled pit stop was possibly at the wrong time. If they had held out until after Mike had gone to the pits, they could have followed and as their tires work better straight away... should have enabled them to keep the lead.
Still, Button's pace was WELL ahead of Montoya's so there is no doubting that the BAR car has had numerous improvements, and that Michael was openly congratulating Button on a stunning performance shows that even Michael is going to be keeping an eye on him.
That said... Ferrari look like they are already going to sow up the constructors championship again...
Speak not too soon. Its too early in the season to make such sweeping generalisations.
(But you are probably right...)
netniV Apr 26, 2004, 14:39 Sweeping Generalisations ? They already have double the points over #2. Unless they pull out entirely I can't see them failing.
Mariska Apr 26, 2004, 15:48 Well the reason why BAR is doins so well is because they can afford to develop the car with the money they are saving by getting rid of Jacques Villeneuve.
