I'll fix you up with a bloke I know from another forum who's heartbroken coz a certain Finnish F1 driver is going to marry Miss Scandinavia. Kormiic Apr 27, 2004, 09:00 If I ever get any masculinity, I'm sure it'll invoke a crisis eventually. Don't let the Thundercats avatar fool you, I'm a complete wimp. thesmileyone Apr 27, 2004, 09:07 Are you Snarf? wbps Apr 27, 2004, 09:18 It all depends on how you define "crisis" and "masculinity." If you stick to the classic ideal of the man earning money and being in control, and not having to worry about womens work such as cooking and cleaning, then living in todays world means having a fundemental masculinity crisis every waking moment. If a Victorian man was dropped into todays society, he'd have a fit! The only crisis felt by men nowadays is failing to adjust to a world which is becoming more equal between the sex. Masculinity means many different things. To me it means taking care of people, acting like a gentleman and being unafraid to face adversity. Not being able to down 8 pints of lager and sing a song about how we won two world wars and one world cup. magicguppy Apr 27, 2004, 09:50 yes, and I'll admit it. Having moved in with the bird after living with mates for 6 years, I've found the balance of man-stuff and chick-stuff in my life has shifted. The mates I was living with have also bitten the bullet and moved in with chicks, and they agree, not a big thing, but just every so often I put down the iron and think: when was the last time I cracked open a couple of man-beers and played Goldeneye. Or when I'm hanging the washing out I stop and look down at the grass and realise it's been ages since I went to the man-park for a kick-about. This is more, obviously, to do with time management, but being the man I am, I can't come to terms with that and would prefer to blame it on the woman. Therefore our remedy is to have a Man-Trip up north, with a big diesel van and some tents, fishing rods, surf boards etc. This is an example of how we condense our man-banter into short bursts, get out man-fix at the weekends or for a fortnight in summer, and that way, I can man-handle the fact that when I'm sat round my dining room table with guests it's probably for a dinner party and not a poker night. Jørgen Apr 27, 2004, 09:51 I dunno... ancient literature (Chaucer's Wife of Bath, John Donne's poetry and Dickensian characters) suggests that the war of the sexes has always been raging, it's just more in the open now. Things are changing and it'll be nice when its finished but in the meantime it can be pretty tough out there. At the risk of generalising a tad, Men are far too predictable and women are far too complicated. Men need to brush up on their communication skills and women need to manage all their issues (body image, self-respect, yadda yadda yadda). Not too much, though... if it wasn't for women sabotaging themselves and each other we blokes would be wearing studded collars and loincloths, slaves in some kind of oestrogen-ruled nightmare. It could still happen if we don't watch out! wbps Apr 27, 2004, 11:47 Hugh Jorgan spouted: if it wasn't for women sabotaging themselves and each other we blokes would be wearing studded collars and loincloths, slaves in some kind of oestrogen-ruled nightmare.
