Does anyone remember this series? It was the dogbombs bollocks. Had loads of talent starring and writing. Some of the sketches were the guy who had a phobia of spoons, prince stalking herds of jockies on the serengeti and the animated stare out competitions. I'd love to find a fan site with the stare out competions on but I can only dream...

If I remember correctly it was pre-Spaced Simon Pegg. I somehow managed to avoid it completely though. I shall curse my name forever more.

Big train was cool. I used to like all the song parodies they did. it was weird but insanely cool.

Prince stalking the jockies was a classic bit of TV comedy

Big train was fucking awesome. Even the slightly odd second series where they did a lot of sketches aping french cinema (B+W film in where a man has an affair......with a traffic light)

It also had mark heap and Kevin eldon if i remember rightly, and was co written by the dudes who did father ted.

and i remember a book of the stare out bits

Kevin Eldon has gotta be one of the funniest blokes in the UK. He was good on big train and he was great on fist of fun. Is that him as the Hobby king in your avatar? Genius.

oh yus.

IMO him, mark heap and dylan moran are the three funniest comedy actors at the moment. Heap as the 'lizard' TV repair man in 'Jam' cracks me up for hours and Eldon as the cleaner in black books is genius.

"you have very.....dusty cups. I want to clean your dusty cups from the inside out."

Possibly one of the funniest things on TV ever!

My favourites were the sketch when Jesus fires the Devil.
There was also a great on with a guy in an 18 hundreds laboratory, asking his assistant why all of this stuff was on his desk: "Get rid of that picture and all this stuff off my desk. I'm a fireman for God sakes"

Surely though the funniest sketch was when employees at a firm get to meet their new boss, it's Pegg and he comes in to say hello whilst they're all in a meeting room.
He talks about how much he's looking forward to working with them all but he feels he ought to mention a phobia that he has. Rather than say it out loud, he passes a piece of paper round the room.
When it gets to the last guy, he stirs his cup with a spoon, takes it out, taps it on the side of the cup and then puts it in his mouth, taking the piece of paper, as he looks up, we see that Pegg has vanished and one of the windows is open, the camera has a look through to see Pegg splayed out on the street....

My fave sketch was with a guy going to the hypnotist to cure his sleeping problem. The first hypnotist couldn't help him. They try another and he couldn't help him either. So they try an evil hypnotist(played by that man Kevin eldon). Hes wearing comedy evil clothes but hes just a nice bloke. He warns the patient that he is an evil hypnotist and then does some evil hypnotherapy and fixes the guys problem, thats it simple sketch but hilarious to watch.

I also laughed tears during an ace sketch where a meeting with a new buyer for the Ritz hotel chain turns to shock when he announces he wants to make a small change;

"I want to rename the hotels from The Ritz, to 'The Titz'"

The execs spend several minutes repeating this out loud, poiltely saying that no matter how you say it, it sounds like 'the Tits'

There follows an awkward silence, until Simon Pegg finally says:
"Does anyone want to see my monkey impression?"

through my tears, I could just see Simon Pegg leaping up on the table, swinging his arms about and stealing biscuits from their teacups.

There was another great one where some designers were showing a local MP a model of a proposed train network but he didn't understand that it was just a model and thought the people would never fit in the little train.

This was Jack Docherty and a few other Scots, Morwenna Banks and some Welsh bloke. Top stuff.

I seem to remember Stoneybridge for some reason.

Honestly smiff, he was a total CUNT.
He has a square head, gay woolly hair and thinks he's some kind of a fucking genius. Even his best mate, who runs a bookshop in town here, hates him.
Says a lot doesn't it.

Do you remember Gwyneth serving Denzil a traditional Welsh dinner of pig's nerves?
The Welsh bloke was John Sparkes BTW.

Alas, no DVD, Simon Pegg is regularly asked about it.

I have to say that the show was much better when Graham Linehan and that other guy wrote it, when the actors took over, it went a wee bit too surreal for my liking.

Oh, and don't forget the sketch with the sprinter that could run a hundred metres in 5 seconds but couldn't get off the mark within 5 seconds of the gun going off.....

There releasing a DVD later this year, can't wait!
There was a sketch of blokes in cat and mouse costumes who went to a pub with their mutal group of friends but couldn't stand each other and ended up having a fight. Pre-dates trigger happy TV's dog fights.

I remember a sketch which carried on from week to week. I think Heap was a boss whoose employee's were long overdue a pay rise. They used to go in and confront him about it, and he'd begin to give them a serious answer, then distract them with something stupid like a calendar with puppies on it and escape somehow. His escapes got more ridiculous each week.

It were great.

I remember that scene. They went in asking for a pay rise and he pulled out some puppies from a draw, ran, got a taxi and got on a plane. Genius.

First time round he did some juggling, and then passed the balls to them for a go.

There was also a fantastic sketch with Simon Pegg so confident that his proposal will be accepted, he promises to the board that he'll kill himself.
The big cheese walks in, picks it up off the table, adjusts his glasses, looks up around the room at the faces and quietly says; "No."

After he walks out it's left to Pegg to do the honourable thing and top himself with cyanide.

I don't remember this, but I can imagine it. And it makes me laugh. I need to find out if I can source this in the US.
