As I stopped reading the NME in about 1937 and always avoid Q and Mojo I have to reply on newspapers and mates for recommendations. This means I'm a bit out of touch. Are there any good NEW (i.e. not reissues) CDs out there. The Beta Band new one looks good and I enjoyed Franz Ferdinand but as I hate bands like D12, Darkness I don't get to hear much new stuff.

If your open minded, try a band called Finntroll.

If your a little more conservative, the new Stills album is good

Fear Factory have just released one. Don't know if it's any good. I'm waiting for Mother's Day so I can coerce one of the kids into buying it for me.

New albums eh?

Unordinarychild recommends:

The Streets - A Grand Don't Come For Free
The Zutons - Who killed the zutons?
N.E.R.D - Fly Or Die
Kill Bill Volume 2 Soundtrack

All are very good in there own way.

I quite like Snow Patrol's new album Final Straw.

And I've been listening to Brand New's - Deja Entendu.

I usually don't like recommending music unless I know a person's tastes really well. Apparently I have weird taste according to my mate who likes Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams.

Pot. Kettle. Black.

Erm, final straw is not a new album, it was released last year sometime, before being re-released this year.
And there is something about bon jovi, after being forced on pain of death to listen to living on a prayer a few times, you become brainwashed.

fantomas is a bunch of poop. every time it sounded like they where breaking into a brilliant intro it stopped...cue some strange wind noises, a few crashes of the cymbol. bloody pissed me off.

I buy a lot of Punk/Rock/Metal compilations from smaller labels to "Discover" new bands to like

I've just got "Punk goes Metal". which is basicly punk bands covering metal songs
(AFI Covering GnR's My Michelle ?!?)

Worth listening to for the Covers of :-
Slayer's War ensemble, with a Jazz Bridge !
Harvester of sorrow, Lead guitar Played on a Trumpet
a rasta cover of Megadeths Holy Wars

I've also got Metalliska, same sort of thing, ska bands doing rock/Metal covers

Anyone for a ska cover of Europe's the final countdown played on the saxaphone (honestly, its fucking brilliant.

Oh, and if you havent got it, but Muse, Absolution. by far the best album so far this century.....(IMHO)

From what I've seen, what I class as a good album probably wouldn't be appreciated :P.

N.E.R.D Fly or Die has been mentioned and that is a good album, well worth a buy.

Late 2003, but still, if anyone's still reading this, give Oceansize's "Effloresce" a chance. It's fantastic, very epic.

If you know Mogwai (if so, good man) it's a lot like them in parts but they stick to convention a tiny bit more, rockier too, though that's probably not a word I should use.

Finally got hold of Fear Factory's 'Archetype'. Brilliant!
Not a lot going that appeals to me this year. That's the first CD I've bought in 6 months.

Mariska you old headbanger - I loved Fear Factory until my brother and I went to one of their gigs at the London Astoria and managed to have a normal conversation over the top of PissChrist.

If loud/hard rocks your boat, I recommend Amplifier by Amplifier (I'm flogging these a bit on this forum but haven't been as excited by a band in years - they've really pushed the boundaries)

NERD album is also way cool though!

Got the Scissor Sisters album the other day, tis great!

Also got Zero 7 at same time, ideal for lazy, red wine induced, chilled out evenings, very Air, IMHO.
