Remember all of the games that took away many hours of your life all those years ago? They're coming back!

Nintendo seem to have announced that their Famicom Mini series is coming over here in July under the Classic NES (http://www.nintendo-europe.com/NOE/en/GB/news/article.do?elementId=226f7926-5ccc-43d1-ace3-c036ebb0941a) mokier. Not only are they releasing yet another GBA:SP design (made to look like the European design for the NES console and controller) they are re-releasing 8 classic NES games, including Super Mario Bros, Zelda 1, Donkey Kong and Bomberman.

Just one small thing though, with the exception of Zelda 1, Ice Climber and Excitebike, why re-release games that have already had incarnations on the Gameboy before?

I guess it's for the same reason that grease was re-released to the cinema or Alien had a directors cut, to make more money. If people want it I guess they'll be prepared to pay.

Well, it does seem to be doing well in Japan. Some of the games have been/were in their multiformat charts for weeks.

Retro Gaming is really big now. I suppose those of us around for the early days of gaming still have fond memories of it and will buy any old guff as long as it's shinily repackaged!

Guess you're right. Mind you the only game I'd be willing to buy out of the lot is Zelda 1; I have the DX version of Super Mario for the GBC, and the Super Game Boy edition of Donkey Kong. The rest don't really appeal that much.

I have zelda one on the gamecube. It's on the legend of zelda collectors edition that came free with the gamecube. You get zelda one and two along with majora's mask, ocarina of time and a demo of the wind waker. I'd never played zelda before but ocarina of time is slowly eating away at my life. It was almost worth the eighty quid for this disc alone.

Yep, played that. My flatmate got that with his Mario Kart bundle. Ocarina of Time has the undeniable property of taking many hours away that you'll never get back, as I experienced when I got it on release day for the 64. But I'm liking of idea of being able to play the original game on the crapper.

Where the hell have you been boyo? I've been back for about a month!

I actually believe that Nintendo's strategy here is a bizarre form of world domination, re-releasing games until everyone in the world has played all of their games at least once. This would at least explain their GBA strategy in general anyways.

Lets face it. The adults who played these games as a kid will re-buy the games for their kids but will play them themselves (until their kids whip their asses at least)
