View Full Version : Fans of ROCK - fantastic new(ish) band alert!
Mr. Biscuit May 18, 2004, 10:16 Get into Amplifier - one of the best debut albums by any band EVER (no I'm not their manager)!
A trio of hard-rocking Mancs lads that are currently taking critics and those lucky enough to see/hear them by storm.
I swear, I haven't been as blown away by an album in ages - I just can't stop playing it. Imagine being at the end of a rock gig where the band quit the stage and leave their guitars resting in the amps - well that's how this album starts FFS!
The first few tracks are just a pure adrenalin rush and take my breath away - it makes me laugh with them at the sheer elation of being able to produce such powerful and well structured noise. However, deeper into the album it gets a lot more tuneful and you can start fully appreciating their versatility, until the final track UFO's just fills you with sheer hope and joy, and you just have to play the whole damn thing all over again...
I'm promising you, Amplifier have to be the next big thing!
Has anyone else heard them yet?
World Of Weird May 18, 2004, 15:18 Yes, I'm sure they make the Who look crap.
Mikey G May 18, 2004, 15:21 My father and WoW have at least one thing in common: My father does not accept that any good music has been made since 1950; WoW does not accept any good music has been made since 1980.

Actually I hear WoW likes the Bangles. And not just for their TITS.

Just a minor amendment and you speak the truth!

No, for their superior take on late sixties jangle rock and close-harmony vocals, ackshelly.
I'm sure Amplifier are boomshank if you are that way inclined, it's just not my cup of tea.

I *heart* Walk Like An Egyptian.
Mr. Biscuit May 18, 2004, 16:16 No - a 60 year old wheezing Roger Daltrey makes the Who look crap.
Oh, I get it - it's because I don't like the Goodies....
Right...
World Of Weird May 18, 2004, 16:23 A man who is tired of the Who and the Goodies is tired of life.
Mr. Biscuit May 18, 2004, 16:26 Has a life?
postal postie May 18, 2004, 17:24 what is their sound?
are they nu metal quite versus shouty coruses?
maroon 5 ?
incubus style
rage against the machine funk
exodus thrash
pantera
do they insist on screaming and shouting and then inexplicably slow the song down for a quick croon?
Mr. Biscuit May 18, 2004, 17:47 No screamy shouty, very powerful singing!
I find it hard to describe them soundwise - just very VERY heavy with a bit of a spacey edge to it and even some floyd in there somewhere.
Check out www.amplifiertheband.com for some samples - you need Reaplayer though.
postal postie May 18, 2004, 17:51 i see their at the download festival. barfly stage. may check it out. if they don't clash with one of the big bands.
:)
World Of Weird May 19, 2004, 13:57 The only amplifier I'm interested in is my Vox AC30.
Mr. Biscuit May 19, 2004, 14:21 Well that's nice, I'm pleased for you - really - am!
You're doing well at bumping the thread though, so you're at least good for something.
Lintuk May 19, 2004, 15:02 ooh.
Nice fat groove on motorhead. Reminded me a little of Kyuss
Mr. Biscuit May 21, 2004, 11:16 OK, just found out they're playing The Barfly in Camden Town on 9th June. Tickets are £6.25 (inc. booking fee FFS), you can't go wrong really...
Just thought I'd let you know - I can't wait!
