Ok, Since WoW says there's been no good music since 1990 here's a few bands to prove him wrong:

Nirvana (yes, Nirvana)
Radiohead (yes, Radiohead)
Massive Attack
Beta Band
Charlatans
Outtkast
White Stripes
Pavement

Good music BEFORE 1990...there's more of it, believe me.

Mikey G
May 18, 2004, 15:48
That might be due to the fact there's 14 years since 1990 and about 2000 years of music before 1990, and even if you only count modern music or even pop/rock since 1955 that's 35 years.

You can't dismiss music because it's new!

apparantly Isaac (?) was hospitalised for "too much rocking out", and Nikki Sixx confirmed he is a Hanson fan!!!! They`re going to be the "true heirs of the drug-fuelled 80s US rock scene", according to a reliable source ;)

Ah come on.... Weezer are cool, funny good feeling music. Their first album is cool as...

Early Suede... definately.. Their 2nd album Dog Man Star is in my top 10 albums of all time.

Alex the Large
May 18, 2004, 20:38
Well, the only real experience I have of Weezer is seeing them at Reading in 1996. They were awful.

Dog Man Star is genius - one of the great 'lost' albums and easily Suede's best work. Then Butler left and it all went downhill from then on. Strange how really promising bands can implode when on the cusp of true greatness.

UnoChild
May 18, 2004, 20:47
I dunno, I think Coming Up was a good album, but that was the problem.. it was no more than good. But nonetheless, not a bad attempt when you've just lost one of the most unique and original british guitarists about.

Dog Man Star was genius, and to me it showscases the talent of Bernard Butler (a very very talented and extremely overlooked musician/guitarist), and his songwriting partnership with Anderson. Unfortunately neither of them ever reached the class of Dog Man Star again... both venturing down a poppier route..

Tori Amos is awesome. Not 1 bad album (the closest to average being Strange Little Girls - which is a collection of covers).

Since Little Earthquakes and the accusations of her 'ripping off' Kate Bush, she has evolved into a classical musician under a pop guise. Some of her music is challenging to listen to ( see Boys For Pele), most of her music is amazing (see Under The Pink, From The Choirgirl Hotel, To Venus And Back, Scarlets Walk, Little Earthquakes).

Steady on luv.

I'm listing 90's album's...look at the top of me post.

Oh, and great album (Darker With The Day and Oh My Lord are stand-out's)...but not a patch on Murder Ballads and The Boatman's Call IMO.

Have you seen the Fifteen Feet of Pure White Snow video with my very own Cocker and Jason Donovan thrashing about like a nutter? Pure CLASS.

Alex the Large
Jun 10, 2004, 23:39
Oh yeah - sorry!

Both those are great songs, but I couldn't possibly agree they are stand-outs cos I think every track on there is a brick-built classic. One of the few albums that still has the ability of reducing me to tears even now. Murder Ballads is a corker though. The Kindness of Strangers is warped genius. And I KNOW a man called Richard Holmes! heh heh!

Haven't see that video though :\

Tori Amos's Boys for Pele reminds me of a sonic youth related remark in NME recently - you have to work for your pleasure. So sometimes I'm tempted to skip various tracks, but there's usually a delightful bit of musical/vocal Tori in every song, however annoying the song initally seems.
I still haven't bought any other records by her, though. Some of her lyrics are a bit shit (or maybe they're just too ridiculously cryptic for me to 'get' ) but her musical talents are amazing, and I hate it when she gets compared to Dido or whatever.
Um, my favourite 90s band is Hole. this century: interpol.
