View Full Version : Predictions For England Vs Switzerland
UnoChild Jun 14, 2004, 10:41 Right, I know it's a couple of days away, but the importance of this match cannot be understated now. England must win. How though, do you motivate the players after they gifted France a 2-1 victory?
I think England will win fairly comfortably. Switzerland don't have a very good side, Hakan Yakin and Chapuisat being the main threats. England shouldn't have much of an issue keeping them at bay, and if Rooney is as lively as he was against the French, he will cause problems.
Prediction: England 2 - 0 Switzerland
neildeal Jun 14, 2004, 10:46 I'd predict a win aswell, although i have a funny feeling about it. Sure we'll fuck it up some how (probably by bringing Heskey on)
comeonetheengland.co.uk !!!!!
Eertamai Jun 14, 2004, 11:06 The Swiss will be better against England than they were against Croatia. Chapuisat looks past it and they will miss Vogel who protects the back four. Yakin looks lively and is the only real dangerman. England should be able to have much more pocession and will surely win.
England 3-1 Switzerland
Dazzla Jun 14, 2004, 11:50 2-0
The Swiss couldn't hit a barn from the inside.
harry007jnr Jun 14, 2004, 12:33 Unfortunately Hesky is bigger than a barn and twice as stupid. With him on the pitch anything could happen.
UnoChild Jun 14, 2004, 12:35 That statement suggests that a barn is in someway stupid. I don't think I recall hearing anyone insult the intelligence of an inanimate object before. :))
Dazzla is right. The Swiss are useless, and have 1 or 2 alright players. I'm not taking anything for granted though...
harry007jnr Jun 14, 2004, 12:42 It's all relative, we are talking about Emile Hesky here...
10 Pence Short Jun 14, 2004, 12:57 0 - 0
Why not partner Heskey and Owen together from the start? That way we can guarantee the Swiss we won't score against them.
Newvrovski Jun 14, 2004, 12:57 I will buy lots of toblerone in anticipation of another frenzy of schadenfreude. However, England, will win with an 89th minute Heskey header and I will be forced to give everyone triangular christmas presents.
Spose it all depends on how much injury time the ref decides to play though.
SCARYBEAR Jun 14, 2004, 13:04 I'm on for a retaliatory dicking of the Swiss..
3-0, 4-1, along those lines...
xyz913 Jun 14, 2004, 14:29 With England v France I got the score right, the order in which each team scored, Zidane scoring a goal and the fact that David James would mess up at the end. So this is obviously true:
Switzerland will take a shock lead in the 5th minute, with Stephane Chapuisat breaking his goal scoring drought. They will hold on until just before half time, as Steven Gerrard makes up for his mistake against France with a cracker from 20 yards. England come out renewed in the second half, with a Wayne Rooney tap-in and a trademark Beckham free kick sealing a comfortable 3-1 win.
Newvrovski Jun 14, 2004, 14:51 I predict the commentators will be as partizan and arrogant as ever which will further turn any Celtic neutrals against the English cause.
Royster Jun 14, 2004, 19:40 The Swiss look at the best clueless.
They have only one star that being Hakan Yakin. (Chapuisat is no longer a star, actually he looks woefully inadequate)
But saying that im not going to expect a win as England are capable of anything.
I think a 1-0 scrappy win
GreebStreebling Jun 14, 2004, 23:33 I don't think I recall hearing anyone insult the intelligence of an inanimate object before.
You wanna come watch my team play: central defense epitomises the term "inanimate object" and their intelligence, not to say their parentage, is questioned frequently.
England should scrape a win providing they don't underestimate the Swiss
1-0
marleyb Jun 14, 2004, 23:37 the swiss will rise to the occasion and play like brazil.
the swiss goalie will become super human..
they will grab a goal on a counter attack and england will lose 0-1
england v poland all over again
Flip Gubbins Jun 15, 2004, 00:07 Marley, that´s just the kind of typical English defeatisim that I have come to love and hate. They played a f**king blinder against France. Give ´em a bloody chance.... They´re going to win!!
Jedichef Jun 15, 2004, 00:22 i reckon after the france game and the performance of the swiss england will come out and hump them. i'm going 3 or 4 - 0
Flip Gubbins Jun 15, 2004, 00:24 Yup, goal difference is not to be scoffed at.
staysinvegas Jun 15, 2004, 00:27 I do get the feeling (and granted, i'm neither for nor against the english squad) that rooney is itching for a red card... he doesn't seem able to control his temper, and he seems the type to dispute with the ref. Maybe it's his age. Sven (i've forgotten the last name) should rein him in a bit.
GreebStreebling Jun 15, 2004, 00:33 They played a f**king blinder against France.
If that was a "blinder" of any description then they're fucked.
Mikey G Jun 15, 2004, 07:05 3-1 to England. Lampard, Rooney, Owen.
We will win in style. :youwin:
UnoChild Jun 15, 2004, 08:15 If England had won the France game, people would have been saying how well they played for 90 minutes. As it is, England did play well for 90 minutes. Give 'em a fuckin' chance eh?
hugo-a-gogo Jun 15, 2004, 13:44 If England had won the France game.....
and if my Granny had balls. she'd be my Grandad
Amanda Huggenkiss Jun 15, 2004, 13:50 Going for a 0 - 0 leaving everything to the last game as usual.
Superandy Jun 15, 2004, 16:33 Keep Mr. Heskey off and we'll do alright. aginst france, he didn't have a single shot and [needlessly] gave away the free-kick from which Zidane scored, a potato if ever I saw one
marleyb Jun 17, 2004, 02:08 flip >
though i am english and footy crazy to be honest i dont care that much about england games .. its hull city that are important to me.....
most england players are over rated, over paid nancy boys who wouldnt
last two mins in the new 1st + 2nd divisions.
i would rather watch hartlepool v hull city then england v france ect.
of course i do hope england win euro 2004 but its more important that
hull city go up again next season...
Newvrovski Jun 17, 2004, 08:30 Toblerone, toblerone,
Oh the Swiss will gub ze English
all because of toblerone
(altogeather now)
Toblerone, toblerone......
Dazzla Jun 17, 2004, 09:58 You wanna come watch my team play: central defense epitomises the term "inanimate object" and their intelligence, not to say their parentage, is questioned frequently.

1-0
Sir Arthur! You didn't tell me that you were a Rams supporter.
*Snigger*
Dr Stan Panties Jun 17, 2004, 10:20 England to win 2-0. Although I heard this morning we're going back to that frigging diamond formation. Why?
(Do you follow the Garibaldi by any chance, Dazzla?)
Eertamai Jun 17, 2004, 11:58 Ahhhrrgggghh, why the diamond? Lampard and Gerrard horribly out of position and a lot of emphasis on Scholes who has not performed to his true ability for years. Everyone knows a flat four is the best for England so why change it.
L'Etranger Jun 17, 2004, 12:08 England 3 Switzerland 1. Providing that England don't sit back after taking a lead like a bunch of cowards, and then bring on Hesky to kick someone in the stomach just outside the 18 yard box, as he's done on at least 5 seperate occassions to my knowledge.
Oh and as long as David James doesn't escape into his imagination and start thinking he's playing Euro 2004 on the Playstation and it's fine to just spectate rather than do any work!
Dazzla Jun 17, 2004, 13:10 England to win 2-0. Although I heard this morning we're going back to that frigging diamond formation. Why?
(Do you follow the Garibaldi by any chance, Dazzla?)
Ah. The Diamond. Second only to the legendary Christmas Tree.
No, no. Forest, mon ami.
zed247 Jun 17, 2004, 17:17 1-0 up and down the Swiss are down to ten men. I'll stop talking now.
