I used to be a ticket inspector on those Croydon trams.I lost count of the number of times I nearly got a kicking.Croydon's a fucking charmless place at the best of times-footer or no footer.

[1] an undertaking from the English FA in agreeemtn with UEFA or FIFA that they will voluntarily withdraw if there is any trouble of this sort in the host country or in England caused by England "fans"

[2]Severe legal crackdowns, mandatory 5 year sentences for those found guilty of football violence. Lifetime bans from not only evey football ground, but also every place that sells alcohol, not just pubs, clubs and offies, but a lifetime ban from Tesco, Kwik Save, Sainsbury (all because they sell alcohol) for those even arrested for bieng involved in football violence. That way we get to watch some knuckle-dragger on TV say "ah cannit gan get me shoppin ne ware cuz al de supamarkitz sell boos" and laugh our bollcks off (and no I haven't thought this through)

I don't want to stereotype, but a large number of people who socialise in Croydon are cunts. You get the full range, from wannabe gansters to skinhead thugs. Croydon has decent places to drink, it's just that some of the people who frequent the area are bad news.

I used to go there every so often, but now I avoid it like the plague.

Football is often nothing more than the catalyst for trouble, rather than the root cause of it. Groups have in the past just use a football match as an excuse to have a bloody good fight.

Take away football and eventually something else will be the reason.

I laughed, this one guy was running from Riot squad and ran straight into a bollard that was conveinitnly been in the centre of the pavement for the last 60 years... Straight to the knackers, stop drop and limp away.

Another guy ran up to a keep left sign and started kicking it for no apparent reason as most of the Police where about a mile away.

If I had to live in Croydon I wouldn't have waited for Euro 2004 to start a riot.

Its not all bad. I wouldnt reccomend going into Grants Vue though. Better to go to the Purley Way Vue. Grants is full of brats who ruin the film for everyone else.

There are some safe bits. Like the South. Except if you have to get the bus in to town. Have to get the bus that starts in the c****y bit.

Having seen Croyden now I have to say that parts of it are actually pretty nice, the suburbs and 'stockboroker belt' areas like like nice, albeit expensive, places to live, wouldn't wanna live too near the city centre though, it's about as good as easton in bristol

I used to live West Croydon. Always hearing sirens from police cars and ambulances. I hate going there on my own. Dont feel safe. Croydon does have more than its fair share of twats.

Well Wakefield on sunday also had a little bit of a riot, I'm not sure what actually happened so I only know what I've been told his that everyone got out in the street smashed up a few shops, had a few fights and tipped over a few cars. Luckily I decided not to go into Wakefield to watch the match.
