I have to say I was rolling on the floor laughing when Beckham tried to send the ball out of the stadium

There's no way Beckham fucks up a kick like that unless there's something fishy about the penalty spot.

The ref shoudla moved it to the other end and he shoulda been given the opportunity to take his penalty again.

Beckham is a cunt. I knew he would fuck it up and he unfortunately proved me right.

He should be made to stay in Portugal where they can ridicule him.

He just fucked it up. Pity that.

Hate to say it but I agree with Hugo!! All the other players took it fromn the same spot.

Beckham had lost his bottle. Simple as that. He has not played well all tournement and he knew it.

BTW I dont think he is all that they make him out to be, but he normally all over the pitch, fighting and battleing(?) for the ball, he did nothing.

My heart sank when Beckham went up to take the first free kick - he's had a dreadful tournament, not only already missing one penalty, but every single one of his trademark free kicks was smashed into the denfensive wall.

Compare his performance this tournament to previous competitions, when he was running around the pitch like a Jack Russell, acting like the only player who actually wanted to win the game.

To be honest, once he'd laid his Argentina ghost to rest with the world cup penalty I've hardly noticed him on the pitch.

I don't think his heart is in it any longer - too many lucrative advertising contracts have sated his hunger.

Beckham remains the most overrated player in Europe. He can't head, tackle, dribble. In fact the only thing he could do was kick a dead ball but obviously he can't do that anymore (his free kicks were crap as well).

His talent is for posing, being a pretty boy and Bling.

You could see how un-happy he was to take the first penalty after he had lost the toss. Hardly inspiring as a 'Captain' for the rest of the team.
It would seem his time in Spain has made him lazy and slow.
Time for a new captain?

IMHO Campbell or Gerrard should be captain. Beckham should just go off and join Blue.

The other end wasn't any better apparently, England had already complained to UEFA about it. Whoever had taken the first kick (from either side) would have missed in my opinion.

OK, being one myself I'm prepared for a lecture from any other armchair experts out there when I type this, but when you take a penalty kick, shouldn't you kick the ball and not the ground underneath it?

Seems that most of the other players last night had managed to grasp this simple law of physics...

Here's another simple law of physics from a fellow armchair expert. When you kick a ball it's clearly advantageous if your lead foot stays planted on something firm rather than sinking into a pudding.

PS I'm not making excuses for Beckham, anyone who reads MH.com may know I'm not a fan.

Sounds like bollocks, but I swear the ball moved before he took the kick and the grund moved as he landed his standing foot. Bad luck, but why the fuck would the pitch have such a bad penalty spot.

It was the same for both teams so it's no excuse for losing the shoot out, but you'd think that the bloody pitch would be in good order.

Beckham fucked it up, plain and simple, if they had concerns about the penalty spot, then he should have placed the shot, not tried to blast the ball into the net. IMHO he's been pretty awful during this tournament - seems that since his move to spain he's forgotten how to stay on his feet and lead a team. give the captaincy to gerard.

OK they are called our "Young Lions", but did you hear any ROAR?

Sorry, that was crap.......................

but my point is we need a shouter IMHO. Someone to gets them back on their toes and fighting again. I know that until this tournement Beckham has shown fighting spirit and has lead by example by his desire and spirit, but we realy do need someone to bollock us(The team that is!!) if we get our heads down. Doesnt seem to fit in with Sven though does it?

Beckham was a joke in this tournament. He's been crap in every game and isn't fit to be England captain. What happened to leading by example?

I heard him on the radio today saying "I will not quit as captain, i love playing football, that's what's most important"

what about the good of the team, you deluded arse?

/not that I care

remember this one? (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/england/3176512.stm)

maybe there is something in his technique that makes him more likely to slip?

you win some and you lose some.

for me that was the funniest thing about euro 2004..

england for the world cup in 2006 if we find a decent striker to replace piss poor owen.......
