having just bought another 4 cds i've come to the conclusion, after trying to find space to put them in, that i've got far too many cds. amast over 10 years or so of buying new ones and replacing the old tapes i used to have. it's an entire cronicle of my music tastes thus far. 200 or so cd's lined up (in alphabetical order of course) on my shelf. and it shows no sign of slowing down or stopping as there are so many new and exciting bands out there.

on a similar but probably not as interesting note i also have saved up all my pczone computer mags from issue 67 to the latest one. again possibly around 9 years worth just gathering dust in my cupboard. i try to justify my terrible hording habit by every now and then taking acouple of old issues out and perusing them at my leisure but they hold limited interest values now.

I've a similar 'fetish' for DVD's. My collection includes all 7 series of Stargate, all of Star Trek: TNG, DS9 and the first 2 seasons of Voyager (rest on order) ... Blakes 7 is now on order and I've made a start on Doctor Who. This as well as comedy DVDs and approximately 150 films 8) I already have all the Star Treks on VHS so have been replacing them, all of Lexx, Crusade, Babylon 5 .... :D

Music CDs I have several hundred of, mostly soft and hard rock \m/

Being the sad geek that I am, i have always had a soft spot for star trek.....shame on me, but then came the convertion to angel, and then too came the buffy. These i could deal with, assuring myself i would never sink to the depths of calling myself an avid fan. However...the worst happened and despite my pleas and protests i was forced to watch stargate(forced as in being locked in a room with a stagate fan and his dvd collection :/) It was awful. Awful because try as i might i could not dislike it. It was..ok. And then i became activlly interested and would quite happily watch it of free will. I hate myself sometimes.
As for collections, i don\t do thenm very well. I used to have lots of keyrings, and troll, but they all vanished. The one collection i want to have(a sizable cd collection) is not going too well due to financial restraints, and is just around 100 give or take at the moment :(
One day it shall be king though...one day

I havent got as many cds as that.If you even listened to one a day it would take 1600 days to listen to them, which is several years, and in the meantime youwould be buying more,so it goes on.You'd be dead before you got to the 20's Jazz section.

Just buy those Cd holder pouches from Dixons. They hold about 250 CDs and cost about £20. Just chuck the jewel boxes out. Preferably into some kind of plastic rcycling utility. Or else next door neighbours garden will do nicely.

Not many CDs but my shared folder contained about 25GB of nicked MP3s, albums and films :D

(In walk the P2P big boys and girls saying they've got entire HDDs full of nicked stuff and whether I should really be admitting to this with the Internet Police on patrol)

I've got around 300 CDs and about 400 records. Only ever bought a pre-recorded cassette if I couldn't get it in any other format. (Or if I didn't want it all that badly but it was selling for $1.50 so wot the hell!)

Phew - thought I'd be bad for collecting - luckily I'm just medium :\

450'ish CD's, 150 DVD's (and rapidly increasing) 60Gb of MP3's Though I'm having a big clear out of old crap I've collected over the years since I'll be moving home soon. :db:

wow. i thought 200 cds was alot. i only live in a small flat so haven't much space to put it. i'm the sort of person who likes the cases so would never think of throwing them out and only using the plastic wallets. it also looks better with loads of cd cases on a few shelfs than acouple of books of cd wallets.

My Dads bigger than your Dad..................................

and Postie, if all your CD`s are in one place and in alphabetical order, you have WAY too much time on your hands!!!

hehehehe

one final thing, do you put all the "The`s" together, if so where would you put The the??

it might seem like i have way too much time on my hands but i can gaurantee you i'll save the time in future when someone says

'can i borrow 'rollins band'' and i can instantly go to it.

thinking of the future me. :)

the the would go directly after the dillenger escape plan, the hives, thoria, (thus it would be here) :P

Son No. 2 and I have quite a lot of CDs in common. I can turn any of mine up at a moment's notice where he'll be searching for weeks.

I keep all my books in alphabetical order as well. Apart from music and reading materials the rest of my house is in total chaos.

there's alot to be said about having cd's in correct order. not all of it interesting, but there is alot to be said.

Most of my CD's aren't even in the right cases and are scattered around the house. My current favourites tend to get left in the kitchen. Now I've got an i-pod I don't bother with my old cd's.

i dont know how many cd's i have but id guess just under 100 which is pretty poor. i have hundreds of tapes though that are in the cupboard gathering dust.

i did have all my cds in alphabetical order but the more i got the less room i had and couldnt be arsed moving them all around again.

I like to listen to music while I'm cooking. The stereo in the living room is too far away. When I'm rich I intend to get a fancy audio system so I can listen to music while I'm in the shower.

haha your right. i've got to move about 70 cd's up one just so i can put my kreator cd in. and then i start on the other side moving 40 all one to the side just so i can put my sepultura cd in.

but it's all worth it in the end. :)

:haha: that sounds like my dad. when he finally got a cd player in his car he thought he was ahead of the times. he still hasn't got a dvd player.

anyway his taste in music is just terrible.

As an avid music collector I have around 4,500 CD's and yes they are in alphabetical order!
A handy programme that I use can be found at www.base40.com this lets you store your collection on your database which you can save to a floppy (in pdf format) and keep it for insurance purposes.
Yes I know I need to get out more.
