View Full Version : tampons or towels?
AnthillMob Jul 11, 2004, 13:36 i aint got a clue where to put this, whether it should be in flambe or sex or everything so i thought id stick it here.
anyways, tampons or towels?
i only ask as my buggering arthritis is making it near impossible to use tampons and the whole towel thing dont really appeal to me. who wants to walk round with a brick in their pants? and it might work lose and fall out at work or something.
so suggestions or advice. mr mob refuses to insert them (which is fair enough) and i dont think id get an "inserter" from social services come round.
sallyride Jul 11, 2004, 13:59 I prefer tampons.
this could well end in disaster but here's my idea/ feminine hygiene strategy:
get some of those tampons w/out applicators and if your fingers are bothering you too much, use a pencil/pen end and push it in with the flat of your hand.

that has crossed my mind but what if it got pushed in too far string and all? a girl i went to school with went to the drs with a particularly smelly fanny and he pulled out a lost tampon.
can you still get them matress pads with the loops that fit round a belt? :rolf:
UnoChild Jul 11, 2004, 15:26 And may I ask why or how you thought this thread would be suitable for Mass Debate?
Moved to Everything.
I use both, at the same time :S
But I hate applicator tampons
What concerns and annoys me is that we are charged VAT on them.

Bungeeboy Jul 11, 2004, 17:25 Is there VAT on condoms?
dogbomb Jul 11, 2004, 19:06 Jesus... I think we need the bitches forum back.
AnthillMob Jul 11, 2004, 19:17 :haha: i went for a lat (lay) down and im still drunk. and still have the dilemma of tammys or sannys.
staysinvegas Jul 11, 2004, 19:24 are we talking light flow days or heavy days?
AnthillMob Jul 11, 2004, 19:27 heavy through to light
Mizzaberry Jul 11, 2004, 20:41 Tampons for the first three or four days (but with a really thin towel incase of leaks) and then just towels. I wondered why the hell anyone would use tampons before I actually tried them, but they make it so much easier and far less messy. I hate having just towels on heavy days.
marleyb Jul 11, 2004, 23:40 i am beggining to think i must be pregnant because i havent
"come on" yet
GreebStreebling Jul 12, 2004, 00:54 mr mob refuses to insert them
Tell him to roll his sleeves up, pull his finger out, buck his ideas up, stop being such a jessie etcetera
bubbavirus Jul 12, 2004, 01:19 melissa likes getting sumt then,
mr mob refuses to insert them (which is fair enough)
Think of it as a test of his devotion. It's only blood, and it's not like he has to lick it clean.
I was flicking through one of my flatmates hefty womans mags ages ago, and there was an article about a rubber cup device which you insert and after a few hours remove and dump the blood down a toilet and reinsert. If you're having trouble gripping a tampon* then the stem on this cup thing may be more suited to you.
*Tampons make excellent firelighters, and can also be hilarious if dropped into a friends pint.
Alternate Jul 12, 2004, 10:07 I prefer tampons. Or the rope of no hope as my ex liked to call them.
Arthritis wise... maybe a copper bracelet might help? Lots of cod liver oil?
Or alternative medicines - homeopathy? Although I'm sure you've already looked into this.
Mariska Jul 12, 2004, 10:17 Have all the kids you're gonna then get a hysterectomy. But prior to that I'd use tampons- the applicator type because I couldn't insert the others - but use a light-weight pad as 'insurance'. (I actually got the hysterectomy because I was getting two-day periods, but they were two days where I didn't dare leave the house.)
herman packer Jul 12, 2004, 11:48 I'll dry my face on anything
BGVFC21 Jul 16, 2004, 17:53 I just saw an ad on TV for a new birth control pill where you only have 4 periods a year. And that doctors say it's still healthy. Maybe you can get on this new pill and then only deal with it 4 times a year ?
When I was young it was towels because tampons were too difficult. Then it was tampons because towels those days were rubbish at keeping the smell in and the blood never quite sank in that well...
Now we have the days of 'Always' where smell and blood is not an issue, I prefer to use those unless I am going out to the pub, club etc dressed up and I like to wear a tampon with my g string, because going out wearing period pants and a pad doesn't really make you feel sexy.

If you have the contraceptive injection it stops your periods completely.

or you have a light bleed constantly every single day like I did.
WelshGirlsRule Jul 17, 2004, 01:14 Tampons for practicality, towels for whenyou're just slobbing around at home or for overnight - you shouldn't use tampons too often, apparently, because of the risk of TSS.
Applicator tampons because its not much fun shoving your finger up there and it coming out all bloody and stuff and you accidently get some on your white trousers and all the boys in class 4H notice and tease you about it for weeks (yes I need to work through these past traumas . . .)

Yeah but when you're got excruciating period pains, its cold and rainy and you feel like shite there's nothing more comforting than period pants, pad, pajamas, a hot water bottle and a mug of hot choccy now is there?!
harry007jnr Jul 17, 2004, 01:19 you accidently get some on your white trousers and
Yeah, they didn't show things like that on those fecking bodyform ads did they?
Sorry, is this a girl only thread? I'll go now...

I think it's if you leave them in there for too long, for more that twelve hours, that you're at risk. Otherwise it's fine.
I'm an applicator girl, I don't like the self-insert kind either.
the cotton squeaking against fingernail..NO.
Beatrix Kiddo May 31, 2006, 07:28 a girl i went to school with went to the drs with a particularly smelly fanny and he pulled out a lost tampon.
bullshit. she'd be dead of TSS.
hugo-a-gogo May 31, 2006, 07:32 yep, everyone knows, instant death :cock:
bullshit. she'd be dead of TSS.
Nope. TSS is actually very rare, although it doesn't mean you should leave tampons in for longer than they should.
Beatrix Kiddo May 31, 2006, 08:23 Nope. TSS is actually very rare, although it doesn't mean you should leave tampons in for longer than they should.
yeah, TSS is rare because it's caused by a tampon being left in too long, and most bitches aren't that stupid that they do that, but if this girl had the tampon in as long as anthillmob is saying she'd did, she'd have almost certainly gotten TSS.
I know someone who left one in for a month and they didn't get TSS, just because you leave a tampon in doesn't automatically mean you will have TSS.
Monster Thing Jun 10, 2006, 23:02 First off I am bored, i thought this might contain amusing tampon related stories. Alas no.
Anyway. There were a lad in college who thought it was funny to go around throwing tampons (unused) into other peoples drinks. One night he threw one in the wrong persons drink. He got the shit beaten out of him.
We watched. He deserved it and we were just too lazy to do it ourselves.
Being a particularly odious presence in the company of women also they too decided to watch his demise. Then one of them suggested that he shove one up his nose to stymie the bleeding.
sysadm Jun 11, 2006, 01:09 "Tampax Tampons."
Ooh I just like saying it.
Mnemosyne Jun 11, 2006, 07:47 TSS is caused by a bacteria, if it's not present then you won't get TSS
When i was 11 and started my period i had this twisted idea that 'girls' use towels and 'women' use tampons.
Then 2 years later i got the tampon thing together, 'felt like a woman' - and promptly stopped giving a shit.
Now i'm on the anti-baby-jab and don't have to worry about using either. Sometimes i spot bleed at 12 week intervals, but an everyday liner takes care of that :)

yeah, I was pretty much the same
I hate towels/napkins/pads though
with a passion
The Ox Jun 15, 2006, 14:05 I'll dry my face on anything
Get in! That was the gag I was planning to make (first time I've visited this thread).
Or at least similar sentiment. I was going to say something like "I've never tried to dry myself with a tampon."
Girlies, a question...
You know how contraceptive coils have a string that comes down through the cervix into the lower flange in order that they can later be extracted? Whats the likelihood of tampons causing problems or getting entangled?
Never had one before, so its all new territory to me. Prolly new territory for the coil too. They dont tend to recycle them as far as I know.
seabreeze Sep 2, 2006, 06:55 I`ve used both before and never had any problems what so ever. I think if there had ever been any cases of any problems the doc/nurse would have mentioned it to you.
