View Full Version : hair straightners
AnthillMob Aug 27, 2004, 18:12 not that you blokes will give a fuck but any girlies here use them?
when i had my hair cut the other month they used ceramic straightners and they done a much better job than my crappy hotplate ones (i have that crimping trio thing that crimps, waves and straightens). i asked at the hairdressers how much these ceramic ones were and they said £100!!!!!!
anyway today i brought some ceramic ones for £20 in wilkinsons and they are fantastic! dead straight hair for less than a quarter of the price of the ones recommended to me.
Yeah, ceramics rock.
I borrowed some back when my hair was longer, and they work pretty well.
dominoid Aug 27, 2004, 19:50 I give a fuck, my hair is getting longer and is kinda straggly. Generally the right hand side is fine but the left curves up in an inverted J shape like a japanese school girl.
I'll look in wilkinsons for some of those, are they the JML ones? I'm usually a bit wary of JML stuff, the adverts are so cheesy. If that doesn't work I'll grow it really long and perm it.
What's the difference between ceramic ones and other types of straighteners?
I have ceramics, and I use them about every three days. In between my hair stops straight, although third day it might need tying up.
I wouldnt be without them. I dont know anything of the technology, but i know ceramics are better than hotplates.
I got some for my birthday last year and havent used them yet. I got lots of things for my birthday last year that I havent used, now I think about it. That will teach me for having a baby a fortnight later.
My mother gave me a pair. I haven't used them yet. I don't have time for that sort of thing. Wash, dry, brush that's me :D
CrossDressKate Aug 28, 2004, 08:30 I don,t myself because my hair is straight from top to bottom but friend of mine uses ceramics and thinks they are absolutly fabby. Better than anything she has ever used before!

when you have hair just over a foot long that gets a bit wavy at the ends then even if you're a bloke you'll use them! (although only if i'm going out cos its a pain in the arse to do ;))
bought the doris some GHD's (good hair day's) last year mrs mob...£95..
from the hair dressers...probably the same one's you enquired about :)
made her very happy...and i got lots of return favours ;)
tory girl Sep 4, 2004, 19:26 I have straighteners, but they don't seem to work. Do I need some kind of styling cream?
are they ceramics?
Are you holding them together long enough wtih your hair in them?
tory girl Sep 5, 2004, 23:10 I have very long (it has not been cut for 10 years) fine hair that frizzes the moment it's dry. My problem is that I worry about damaging it so I probebly don't hold them together long enough. How long do you hold them together for?
What's the difference between ceramic ones and other types of straighteners?
[boring physics crap]
Ceramic plates hold and distribute heat much nicer than metal does. Metal is given to heating up unevenly, or suddenly dropping or rising in temperature, ceramics heat up evenly and discharge heat energy the same way.
Thats why during chemical experiments involving huge amounts of heat, we use ceramic plates instead of glass or metal ones.

dominoid Oct 10, 2004, 21:52 I just bought myself a set of Babyliss ceramic straighteners for 19 quid in argos and they really do rock. I've used non ceramic ones before and they didn't have that much of an effect on me other than making my hair go all straggly at the bottom but these actually seem to work. I'm still learning how to use them without being paranoid I'll burn my ear off though. :D
