This is getting pathetic.......the original release date was September 2003, so its already a year late; and now its been pushed back again - due for release in the UK 5/11/04.

How can any company get it so wrong so many times - the number of scehduled release dates must be into double figures by now....!!

It does however look fantastic and if anyone has seen some game footage - the physics are simply outstanding.

The graphics in Doom 3 are amazing (especially the hell level), i wonder if Half-Life 2 will be as impressive....looking at the videos and screen shots it will give Doom a run for its money.

Judging from what i have read - if your system can play Doom 3 smoothly then you will have no problem with Half-Life either. Bare in mind - Doom 3 is a Nividia based game, while Half-life 2 is ATI.

Will it be the best game of the year???

With all the time it's had to be perfected it ought to be!!

It's inevitable it will be compared iwth Doom three but I think the ideas are different. Doom three is a 'run and shoot' style FPS whereas Half life is meant ot be more cerebral than that. The original was the first FPS that really introduced thinking about what you were doing and it changed the way FPS games worked, I would expect something special from it's sequal.

considering all the hype thats surrounded this game, particularly during the "extended release period" since sept 2003, its going to have to be pretty damn good to live up to expectations

having said that, i know full well i'll be like a kid on xmas day when it is released, becuase as you say the screen shots/videos etc look fantastic & i'm a sucker for a good fps

Yeah from what i have been reading; they have used the extra time to their advantage to improve the performace of the game on both Nividia and Ati range of cards, although Ati kicks ass overall.

People who bought a card back when the originaly release date was announced (i.e. 9700) shouldn't feel disappointed as the game will run good on Direct X8 and above which is good.

Yeah Doom 3 is pretty mindless, i did get stuck once or twice but it didn't take me long to work out where i was going or what i had to do. I do however like the action and pace of the game (will get your heart racing everytime!).

The AI that the enemies you face in Half-Lfe 2 is supposed to be the most advanced ever - making it a real challenge in a gunfight; which i am looking forward to as my Unreal Tournament skills usually make mince meat outta computer foes.

There is also a huge Mod community just waiting...eagerly to make sure the game lasts its time.....which will surely happen - half-life was released like 4+years ago and is still going strong. Now they have a better engine to work with - i will be intrigued to find out what they come up with.

lol @ Lurk

Keep in Mind The Original Half-Life 2 Release Date Was Only About 2 Months After it Was First Announced After They'd Been Working On It 'In Secret' Also keep In Mind Valve etc Are Reknowned For Fucking Up Release dates.

I Personally Dont care. If Its Half As Good As It Looks, As Lng As It Is Released, Its Good Enough For Me!

I would second what ronin said. If you are a user of Half-Life and it's now current platform "STEAM" then you will have realised long ago that they never seem to get it right and you just have to wait.

I think it was a conspiracy so that they could use that as an excuse to push the date back further because - plain and simple - the game was not ready!!!

The security would be very tight for such a high profile game - and what would the people or person stand to gain? If they made a game similar (using the game code) then they could be sued surley......nothing has come about because of the stolen code except the release date was pushed back......

Duke Nukem: Forever was supposed to have been released around 99 originally using the Quake engine. Then they decided to use the Unreal engine and now the whole thing is all up in the air. Which is a shame really since I would really enjoy a new good Duke nukem game.

i was watching the last rolling demo that they released of duke forever. looks dated but it was released a couple of years ago. lets hope it's been seriously improved.

on another note just read the latest pczone with a 12 PAGE REVIEW of HALF LIFE 2.

probably the best game EVER was the final tag line. along with the score of 97%

That's why I don't buy gaming magazines. How can you review a game that isn't ready for release yet?

By promising a good review in exchange for exclusive rights, that's how.

the game is ready for release. november time. that's how they review it.
pczone only review gold copies as a rule and never review demos.
they also make a rule of being very stingy with their marks and will often mark down games that other mags have praised.

I'm a PC Gamer reader, and it got 95 percent. I'm looking forward to it immensely. And Rome:Total War looks fantastic as well.

PC Zone gave it the score of 97% and the tag "The game to end all games"

btw they also gave Rome Total War 93%

DOOM 3 graphics were impressive but the 'outside' graphics, physics and gameplay of half-life 2 is stunning....doom created atmosphere but this creates a gaming experience...........u never know what u are gona face next. And what about the environment u can use to your advantage. It is the one.........

Please Discuss

btw i am well pissed but what i say is true!

my almost total absence from dogbomb since wednesday is a testament to how fucking awesome this game is (i'm only here now because i'm stuck & have been going round in circles for 20 mins!)

i keep getting killed because i'm stopping to look around at the breathtaking scenery....some of the graphics in the city levels make it look like you're watching a film

totally agree with DK199 on Doom3 vs HL2 - doom was about atmosphere, it was dark & foreboding, claustrophobic & sometimes quite scary, but overall it boiled down to a shoot em up: lots of things trying to kill you, you kill them, job done, whereas HL2 is a much more rounded experience, there are still lots of things trying to kill you but there are many other things to deal with, so much to explore and so many different types of obstacle/puzzle to work around

its also very much in keeping with the original half life games. often game sequels disappoint because they are so far removed from the originals (quake 2, dungeon keeper 2 anyone?) but half life 2 keeps much of the "feel" of the original game.

anyway....can't hang around, got to get back to it ;)

Meh. I thought it was pap.

Somehow I've ended up loving Halo 2. What's with that?!

I would love to play HL2, so if anyone wants to help upgrade my machine, I'll help them another time ;-)

I have seen some of the attention to detail through Counter-Strike: Source and other *:Source products, as the difference in detail level between the *:Source and * products was enough to make me go "oooOOOooo" so HL2 should be even better than that.
