Looks very nice indeed.

Wonder what it'll be like to mod :) The PSone, I seem to recall, was a bit of a swine.

Probably slashdotted. Seems to be working at the moment.

It'd be nice if Microsoft did that to the wonderful but huge brick that they made :)

I do find it odd that the PS2 has two thirds of the console market yet the Game Cube and the Xbox kick its ass when it comes to Graphics. There is a gulf of a difference between it and the Xbox; a good example of this is a multi-platform game like Need for Speed Underground. I have play it on both machines and was quite shocked.

However it just goes to show you - with the right marketing and good selection games it can be done against superior hardware.

Just goes to show you - gameplay always wins over graphics!*

*Except when it comes to a highend pc - no comparison!

Gamecube = cartoony, cutesy stuff, usually Nintendo marketing 'games' and impossible to pirate. And yes, I'm pretty sure piracy does sell consoles just like I'm sure it's why DVD writers became popular.

PS2 = backward compatible with PS1.

XBox = nicest console ever (having a hard drive = great, with a mod you can do emulation etc etc etc) but has certain stigmas such as Microsoft and the loss they're making on them. It's also a new entry and not a continuation like the PS2, otherwise it would've won IMO.

I totally agree: designed with 'kids' as the main maket even tho my 23yr old mate swears by it.

I have a PS2 and the reason I bought one is cos I enjoyed playing PS1 games so much I knew they PS2 would be just the same but better graphics and there where so many great games out and a ton in the pipe line so bought it a year after launch (well i think about then - the same week as GTA3 was released anyhow). The sheer volume of games is unriveled and the price tag of £230 with 2 games was ok.

Xbox was released with bugger all games and wasn't the price tag rediculas at something like £399???? how is the avergae joe gonna justify spending that amount of money on a console and there is like no hope for the kids either! Microsoft fecked that up pretty bad! Plus if you had a decent pc - why buy a machine that all the same games are coming out for but like double the price??? Just buy a Xbox USB joypad - you would be sorted!

However I do like what the Xbox has came with - hard drive, dolby digital, Xbox live etc and the price now more than justifies it at £99 but its too late - the PS2 has cornered the market - the battle is lost......maybe in the next Gen of consoles Microsoft and Nintendo will be a better challenge but IMO Sony will dominate again........

I had both ps2 and an xbox and didnt find it hard selling my ps2 over the xbox (I thought it was a tad geeky and greedy to have both)
But back on topic, if I wouldnt get a beating off tha lass and found spare cash in my poket, I would prolly buy one of these newer streamlined ps2`s

This applies to many of the games but not all. It has a much more widespread market than you might think. Consider the quality of graphics and realism in the resident evil remake, second sight and the new zelda game. There are lots of cutesy games for it yes, but that's because they're becoming fashionable. I still believe the gamecube is the best console out there on account of being far more innovative. It's the new dreamcast, owned by G33ks and game freaks alike but shunned by the mass market.

I just have all 3, how's that for geeky :)

GC always seems to lose out due to its tiny disc size whilst the others have lush FMVs and the like.

Compared the load times on the GC compared to the other 2 consoles though and it pisses all over them. Still find it hard to shell out for a game on it these days though since we got the X-Box. Would never buy a PS2 even if they paid me too. Sure there are plenty of games for it but the majority of the games are crap.

I think part of that is that people have confidence in CD's and DVD's. The GC has discs that are considerably smaller and so some people will automatically think you can't fit as much on it. Also, when it comes to packaging, you look at the GC boxes and if I remember rightly (as I don't own a GC) they are not too dissimilar in size to a GameBoy/Gameboy Advance. Perhaps this makes people think handheld console and just ignore them, and as a result they don't feel that there's as much out there, which conversely happens as producers stop producing.

You can't, they're only 1.5GB. Better than a CD maybe, but not DVD (Xbox uses 8.5GB dual layer discs)

Xbox's data transfer rates are double GC's, it's just that with GC there's fuck all to load. Not to say the games aren't brilliant though (spent many a drunken night after the pub/club playing monkey ball till the wee hours)

No idea about PS2, generally it's pretty shitty hardware wise though.
