View Full Version : Whats your favorite Online Multiplayer Game?
I wish I could poll but people can just reply in da thread :)
What is your favourite online multiplayer game and why?
This can be just your overall favourite but if you have lots then split them into categories like FPS, RPG, Racing, Sports etc
To be honest I only play FPS online (used to play warcraft 3 but too many dickheads).
Anyway - my vote goes for :youwin: UT2004 :youwin:
A visionary masterpiece, I had UT2003 but this sequel simply blew it away....just can't get enough of Onslaught....the mods are excellent and new maps are coming on all the time each adding to the replay of the game.
Ronin Da Bomb Sep 24, 2004, 01:08 Used To Play Counter-Strike A Lot Til Playing On 56k Became Such A Bugger. Wehn I Get Broadband Soon, I Will Mostly Be Playing The Matrix Online :D
Ugh_tC Sep 24, 2004, 10:08 I've played a few online games - Mechwarrior3 & 4, Jumpgate, Neverwinter Nights and others.
But they never hold the attraction for me. Play for about three months then it gets boring as hell, especially when the grief brigade start to appear (look, I'm hard I've worked out how to hide behind this little spot so I can shoot ou and you can't shoot me...)
Also had a bash on XBox live briefly, but too many Germans again - nowt against 'em personally, but when doing battle old habits die hard (must be something in the water)
But overall, I had the most fun in Jumpgate until they slacked off on development. I liked the persistent universe aspect of the game.

Will that be the PC or console version ? I should get around to getting me a copy of the PC version and see whether it is any good...
Ronin Da Bomb Sep 24, 2004, 23:34 Well by then i should have my new PC and broadband installed, so the PC version naturally ;)
I absolutely loved Eve, but sadly Munchyminxs nocturnal feeding needs have not allowed me any real chance to play it and so I suspended my account. :(
Its been mentioned here before, a while ago, but basically its like Elite for the 21st Century (the 1980s puter game) and is everything Elite wanted to be but didnt have the capability for, and lets face it, the computers that ran it only had 64k of total hard drive space, so they were never going to be able to do a huge amount.
Basically, its like an enormous universe what you can fly around trade and fight in. Theres space stations everywhere and you can join corporations or run your own. Its skill building and strategy and shootemup heaven. If you like that kind of thing.
Online Unreal Tournament is awesome too. K thnks.
americas army
and for the last couple of days....
starwars battlefront...except I aint paying £40 for it....
PooperScooper Sep 25, 2004, 21:26 I'm currently checking out Everquest 2 which is good but it wont be out till the new year most likely.
Unreal Tournament 2004 is a game I always come back to. Huge game with a good community if you can ignore the lamers accusing you of cheating every other game.
Markela_F12 Sep 27, 2004, 21:46 I play "Rise Of Nations" and "Age Of Mythology" quite a lot, and they are splendid fun, if you ignore all the newbies.
Mr-Tickle Nov 4, 2004, 10:47 Have had UT2004 for a few weeks now, and have started playing online, after getting to grips with it. Not great as yet, but starting to get better and better scores.
Onslaught is v.v cool
tory girl Nov 4, 2004, 12:54 Mr Tory girl is a big fan of Wolfenstein, he enjoys the co-operetive elements to it. Can anyone recommend him something else similar?
I used to play a lot of RtC Wolfenstein before I moved to Dundee for uni. When I moved back home for the summer I tried to get back into it but I just couldn't.
That said, I'm always partial to LAN game of Halo, or playing online on the PC version.
I like UT'99 for it's co-operative stuff. I dont' have a powerful enough machine to play the newest ones, although I still play CounterStrike/Day Of Defeat also.
harry007jnr Nov 4, 2004, 20:31 People are still running UT99 servers? Wow, I used to play that game constantly back in the day, on dial up too. I remember having to give a good 1/2 inch lead with your aim with the sniper rifle to have a chance of hitting someone... ah, those were the days!
Don't really play owt online now.
I still run mine. :D Me and MrMinx play occasionally.
Worms armageddon I loved that online.
Dungeon Keeper 2 another cool online game I always had the problem that I was on dial up with a 2 hour disconnection at the time and some games of DK2 could (And did) take that long
Wrath storm Dec 28, 2004, 23:59 HALO 2 ALL DA WAY :)
glenwils Dec 29, 2004, 11:54 legend of mir is my faavorite, played it for nearly 3 years, quite suprised no1 else has played it.
Wrath storm Dec 29, 2004, 13:19 Legend of mir???
Mnemosyne Dec 29, 2004, 14:30 I played Doom against Mr Mnem once. We decided for the good of our marriage never to go head to head again (ie I won).
Have never gotten into on line games, prob just as well as I spend way too much time on the pc doing nothing productive at the moment.
Wide Boy 83 Feb 24, 2005, 11:32 One of my favourite online games has to be Vietcong on the PC - it's great playing it with CTF. The sound is great, especially when you're running away with the flag and you hear bullets rip past you left and right and hit the ground just in front of you and stuff.
The only game I could think that rivals Vietcong? Battlefield 1942 with the Desert combat mod... immense!
Another favourite of mine is Ultima Online (and yes I played Legends of Mir, quite good!). But I'm a sadsack for liking Ultima Online I suppose.
Those are probably my top 3 games... boy I need to get out more...
Wide Boy
Zapdos Feb 25, 2005, 01:20 legend of mir is my faavorite, played it for nearly 3 years, quite suprised no1 else has played it.
Wasn't that the one that was a bit like Diablo? they used to run a thing about it on Game network on Sky?
Looked good but i dislike having to pay to play, the way i figure it if i've already bought the game why should i have to pay extra to play it. (FFXI will not be bought by me for that very reason)
OVERLORD1973 Feb 25, 2005, 16:12 i have to admit that Americas Army is my favorite multiplayer game. its six months that i play almost every day.
tonystarks Mar 2, 2005, 16:11 Has to be war craft, or doom 3. UT2004 is good but its still not doom
Patrick Mar 31, 2005, 11:57 Mr Tory girl is a big fan of Wolfenstein, he enjoys the co-operetive elements to it. Can anyone recommend him something else similar?
Wolfenstien is a much underated classic but the new Counter Strike Source is even better.
dexcel13 Apr 8, 2005, 11:02 I always enjoy playing return to castle wolfenstein onthe multiplayer. and i've starting to apprecaite the benifits of playing with/against less people. more opporunity for some one on one action.
i played call of duty whichw as pretty sweet, bit like wolfenstein, more of a one shot one kill though, thta was until the computer went all weird and kept on crashing on me.
Counter Strike: Source and Half-Life 2: DM are definately great online games. I came consitently in the Top3 for HL2:DM last night and was doing ok in CS:S too. The others I play like it are Halo 2 on the X-Box which is brilliant, and I also have Ghost Recon 2, but I haven't tried that in ages so can't really remember it.
Goat Rider Apr 8, 2005, 16:36 Lord of the rings battle for middle earth at the moment :)

You download the actuall game for free then you get a free trial upto level 20 i think it is now, which takes quite a while the game costs 10 euros per month and that buys you 4 characters. It is a little bit like diablo but about 100 times bigger thosands and thousands of people play it nowedays.
i stopped because it became way to addictive.
have a search for it you may enjoy it.
nolg80 Apr 16, 2005, 17:10 I play redmoon online which is a mmorpg and iis quite chalenging.
used to play legend or mir, mu online.
i play counterstrike source, act of war, and a few others.
if anyone is considering broadband check out UKONLINES 8mbps service just in case you can get it in your area...
although the 1-2mbps is fine for most things..
Zapdos Apr 20, 2005, 23:09 Actually after a year of buying it I've finally managed to get Diablo II to work on my PC (I gave up trying when i first installed it) and I've started playing it online only to find that it's REALLY good.
I'd been playing for 2 hours or so without even noticing.
Still tempted to re-install worms armageddon though. . .
