well....according to the trainer who works with the victoria's secret runway models, an effective policy is to avoid eating carbs in the evening, i.e. past 6 or 7 pm.
now i can never do that, but it is supposed to help decrease tummy puffiness.

I'm currently on Slim fast. I lost about two stone in this last year but it doesn't seem to be working very well this time. I think the closer you get to your target weight the harder it gets to lose weight.

BTW-The media is full of shit, 12-14 isn't fat, it's normal. Nobody likes a skinny bint.

I'm a size 10 - what size is a skinny bint?

I used to be a size 20.

I lost and kept off a total of 4 1/2 stone without touching a diet sheet or reading any slimming mags or doing any exercise or starving myself.

The method I chose was to not deny myself something if I really want it.

I just had to not want it in the first place.

You'd be amazed how changing your mind leads to changing your lifestyle.

Figure out why you want to lose weight. Is it to fit into something you like? Is it to feel happier and more attractive to yourself? Someone else?

You do not need Slimfast. You do not need Atkins. You do not need calorie counting, fat units, net carbs, measuring tape, kitchen scales.

You do need an incentive, be it to build confidence (as in my case), to look nice for a special occasion coming up, to feel healthier, to save money.

You'll find yourself losing weight slowly but surely if you change your lifestyle. Change the times you eat at, use smaller plates so your meals look bigger (eyes bigger than your belly? mine always are) always use the low fat versions of everything (forget what people say about low fat stuff not being much lower than normal, it's still lower) and don't buy low fat things just because it's low fat. Would you normally buy a box of 6 apple bakes if you weren't dieting?

Above all, if you really want to eat something fattening, just do it. If you don't you run the risk of feeling shit and overeating later on instead. If you eat it, you feel good momentarily then feel shit about eating it. If that happens don't say 'oh fuck it I'll eat what I want and start again tomorrow' just continue as normal.

When you start to lose a few pounds the energy and satisfaction you get from that alone will spur you to keep on going.

And when you get to the weight you like, don't let yourself slip back into old habits otherwise you'll be yo-yo dieting like the rest of the dieting nation.

I'm currently only 6 pounds off the lowest weight I've ever been (8st 5lbs) and although I'm still paranoid about my shape I feel so much better about myself than I did when I was 13 stone.

Marie: it;s relative to your height but I would say don't go any lower than size ten unless you're less than 5'5 this is my personal opinion, there's no magic figure but s a rule of thumb if you can see your ribs when standing up normally then you could comfortably put on a couple of pounds without worrying.

If something has the word "diet" attatched to it, dont do it.
Start by cutting out any additional fat that isnt part of some sort of craving....
margarine/butter, change to semiskimmed (or full skimmed if you can bear the lack of taste) milk, reduced fat yoghurt.
Don't eat fats just because its "good" fat... if you ignored all the fat you get from other foods, the total amount of fat you need to keep your body running is something like a teaspoon of olive oil and a tablespoon (i dont think its also a tsp, but i may e remembering slightly wrong) of linseed oil.
Not a lot, in other words.
Trim all meats, avoid bacon and all the really good meats like kransky and cabanossi.
Walk whenever possible. Apparently, for maximum fat burning (not just weight loss, that also involves loss of fluid and glycogen) you should walk about 2 1/2 - 3 hours after eating, at a constant pace, where you just loe your breath.
If you crave something deliciously creamy/fatty/chocolatey, then get the best you possibly can, because theres nothing worse than splurging on something bad, only to think, that was crap, and then go out and get something else, to make up for it...

Actually, the really simple solution is to have a leg amputated. You've lost a couple of stone there straight away.

Failing that, Neil's advice is sound.

Ah but you see the loss of a leg would seriously inhibit futher exercise regimes... thus resulting in weight gain?

In times of horizontal enhancement, i make sure to eat lots of nice, spicy foods. this speeds up the metabolism to make sure all the energy you put in gets used up.

i also make a concious effort to drink more water, and as a last resort, eat less simple carbs (breads, pasta's) but only if i dont plan to do much exercise.
