View Full Version : How do you buy Tampax?
The Iron Duke Feb 1, 2005, 13:56 yeah, in a shop. Thank you.
a question for the chaps here, but if anyone can think of a girly equivalent I'd be obliged.
we've all been there. You wake up to her going "Ah fuck. I could of sworn there was a pack at the back of the bathroom cabinet. You'll have to go to the shop"
and so you must. So you are in the supermarket and you got three ways to go.
throw a pack of Tampax into the basket and march up to the counter, head held high and daring anyone to look at you sideways.
bury the Tampax under a load of crap you dont want to buy, then whisk them into the carrier bag.
tell her to plan ahead next time because theres no way you are buying her Tampax.
dogbomb Feb 1, 2005, 14:04 There is no female equivalent, due to the fact that women aren't as much of a pussy as men.
On that note, I go into the shop and pick up what I intended to buy... take it to the cashier and exchange money for the goods. Then I leave and go home. If a bag is offered, I sometimes take it.
stevie_b Feb 1, 2005, 14:06 Buy some condoms at the same time and wait for the inevitable quip.
GuinnessMeister Feb 1, 2005, 14:19 I personally don't see a problem with it. I have bought tampons for an ex-girlfriend on the odd occasion. She'd always try and make sure I didn't have to, but every now and again it happened that I'd have to buy her some. I remember one time being on my mobile phone stood in front of a vast array of different types - with wings, without wings, with "applicators" etc. asking her what sort I needed to get. I got some funny looks from some of the women doing their shopping, but I didn't, and still don't, give a shit.
Amanda Huggenkiss Feb 1, 2005, 14:24 Never bothered me, women have periods, so flippyflapping what?
Like GM i do find the vast assortment of light blue boxes flumoxing.
Mikey G Feb 1, 2005, 14:26 If you have a problem with it buy Tampax at the supermarket so you can pick it off the shelf yourself and let the cashier run it through the scanner.
Like he said, don't see the problem with asking and paying for it at the pharmacy.
Do people really still get embarrassed about this???
Blimey charlie.
Mr Minx thinks nothing of tossing a packet in the shopping basket, or indeed the enormous mattress sized towels that are sometimes a requirement. Its just another shopping item.
dominoid Feb 1, 2005, 15:30 It's never bothered me I just buy it like I would buy loo roll or washing up liquid but I can see why some men might get funny about it. I'm a very difficult to embaress person though.
Well, I'm a girl and I'm still shy about it.
Dunno why, but I tend to go for option 2. I try to go a female cashier too. :ymca: :)
Ronin Da Bomb Feb 1, 2005, 15:35 I Dont See The Problem. A Guy Who Was With Me Last Time I Brought Condoms In Boots Seemed Very Uncomfortable And Of Course Made The Usual Joke When I Got To The Checkout To Pay. What Reason Is There To Be Embaressed?
Mikey G Feb 1, 2005, 15:36 Trying buying them in boxes next time, Ronin. Less embarrasing.
Daveyboy Feb 1, 2005, 15:39 If it embarrasses you go into the shop with a bag over your head so they don't recognise you.
Or you could cover your eyes with two pantyliners.
stevie_b Feb 1, 2005, 15:48 Or dress up as a laydee then it wont matter :badger:
Buy a copy of Big Jugs Monthly magazine at the same time.....
The requirement of tampons necessitates and negates the general embarrassment of buying porn.
Do people really still get embarrassed about this???.
my thoughts exactly, it could be worse, she could be asking you to get tena lady.
UnoChild Feb 1, 2005, 16:29 Re: How do you buy Tampax?
Walk into the shop, pick tampons up, go to counter, hand over money.
I've never understood why blokes have problems with things like this. Even if the assistant is thinking :
"** snigger ** he's gonna put those up his arse ** snigger **"
Who gives a fuck?
when i was younger (as in, 12) i had a real problem with it.
my friends mum worked at the supermarket and i ALWAYS managed to get served by her :\
so i understand people who get a bit scared, but seriously, get over it...
...i did
AnthillMob Feb 1, 2005, 21:50 head held up high though all men if you ask them always say to you down the phone "cant you get them".
a week after new year i had a miscarriage so i had to buy towels. oh what fun that was. "now do i go for with wings, without, normal or sup[er dooper plus".
why not just have a matress in your pants, and i dont mean a burst one.
Not a problem, I buy the wife's man hole covers, it's just life, natural as anything. Just like buying 20 smokes.
Eertamai Feb 2, 2005, 10:59 I got some funny looks from some of the women doing their shopping, but I didn't, and still don't, give a shit.
Why are they watching you? These women are probably the sort that go off on one when their husband/boyfriend wont run an errand for them, but seem to be scowling at a guy doing something for his lady friend.
All this reminds me of the time a friend of mine walked in to a local newsagent and bumped into a girl that he knew fancied him. They said hello and he glanced at at what she was buying and she had a jumbo pack of 24 toilet rolls she was buying, all on there own. He said she went so red it's amazing her head didn't explode.
Men, there is nothing to fear when buying the lady her tampax. The sales is probably warpped up in their won little world to even care what you're buying.
If they did notice, they'd prolly be thinking "aww, how sweet". Or something to that effect.
Mikey G Feb 2, 2005, 12:51 Or they could offer some sympathy that you're not getting any.
Mnemosyne Feb 2, 2005, 13:52 slightly related, me and mr mnem went in to tesco's last year to buy condoms for the first time and we just couldn't do it, don't know why, but we chickened out and I got some at boots next time I went in there. Did feel very self conscious standing for ages trying to decide which ones to get!

Next time you are visiting the doctors, just ask for some. He/She will be happy to oblige.
Mnemosyne Feb 2, 2005, 15:28 yes I know, but you know how long it takes to get a doctor's appointment.
It was kind of an impulse buy
UnoChild Feb 2, 2005, 15:35 It was kind of an impulse buy
I buy sweets and crisps on impulse. I (used to) buy condoms if I plan on having sex with someone. :))
Champion Rabbit Feb 2, 2005, 15:44 You can probably buy condoms on the inferweb. Not that I have ever done it.
I stride to the counter like a Jolly Green Giant and DEMAND a packet of their tastiest variety!
:)
