This li'l beauty is coming to Channel 4 soon, and I believe from the two episodes I did see of it, that it will be fantastic. Anyone else seen it, or know when it is due to actually start ? (I know one or two of you have seen it since I got informed about it from fellow dogbombers ;) )

Proof that good commercials/trailers can be effective - I saw the full length ad the other day, and it's made me want to see it.

Will defo be watching Lost as I`ve heard really good things about it. Think it starts in August. Desperate Housewives was one of the best things I`ve seen in a long time and Series 2 will be much darker with loads more twists and turns.

are the trailers for Lost any indication of what its actually about? I quite fancy this as they played Portishead over one of the trailers, so it caught my attention.

actually I lied. The reason I wanna watch it is because it looks like theres some hunks in it, and I was kinda hoping they might be in the prog.

so come on whats it about? at the mo it looks like some angst riddled thirty somethings prancing about - oh no, thats Friends isnt it.

I have seen a couple of episodes but I don't want to give too much away. Basically, a plane crashes onto an island. You don't get to see that part if I remember rightly, but start the journey with them after they are down. From there on, it is a case of survival but with a myriad of different personalities all different (hence the advert).

The thing is, you don't exactly get to know straight away who is what. You are as much in the dark about that as the rest of them. Some don't even speak english which adds to the mixed up feel of it all. Add to that the local dangers etc, and what sounds boring here comes alive on screen. :)

Starts August 10th, Channel 4 I think.

Saw some bits on Newsnight review last week, it looks pretty good. All the reviewers loved it, as well.

My advice is to pay careful attention to the flashbacks.
Each episode focusses upon a certain character. During some flashbacks,
there are subtle clues about other characters.

Jul 25, 2005, 12:16
I think I informed you.. and it kicks a lot of fat, American ass. There do seem to have been a lot of beautiful people on that plane (and one of the hobbits from LOTR... and some guy that was in the Republican guard... and some fat guy... and an old guy... and a little kid... that's about it). I guess a lot of first class people got lucky.. also it was an intercontinental flight (which usually carry a more beautiful clientele than domestic flights.. i guess). My favorite character's the hobbit.. who plays a british rock star guy in the show.

madpinkflamingo

so a bit like celebrity love island meets robinson crusoe?

Greasy Art
Jul 25, 2005, 12:18
I think the hobbit is the only character who is supposedly famous... and the running joke on him is that none of the other characters have ever heard of him (which annoys him).

I watched one episode. It's shit.

PooperScooper
Sep 17, 2005, 12:25
So you watched an episode and you now think its shit. Well congratufuckinglations.

I think its probably amongst the best shows on tv at the moment. I do have some complaints about the first series though.

I'm gonna use spoiler tags for this so don't read it unless you know what happens at the end of the series.

We were lead to beleive all throughout the first series that we would get big revelations at the end of the series. Although certain events did take place, these revelations didn't really happen. We still don't know what the fuck Locke is trying to find down the fricken hatch, even after he blew it up. And also the crazy french chick is well... still a crazy french chick, and not making much sense at all. A dissapointing last episode if you ask me.

But series two airs on ABC next week and I for one can't fucking wait. Apparently there is a new bunch of characters whom I persume were in the tail end of the plane when it went down. We already know who one of them is. Remember the girl who was flirting with Jack at the airport? She's listed as a major new character.

Sep 17, 2005, 14:07
Hmm. I think I can understand some of the griping.

Fairly effective as a tease, but the character interaction has been somewhat poor so far, and though they're necessary, the continual recourse to flashbacks - some very clichéd - is dragging the forward narrative down to a limp. This week Jack gets trapped. Then he's rescued. Big wow.

However, I do like the insinuation of it. Showing us areas of a character's history that other cast members have no idea of puts the viewer in an empowered, elevated position - a clever, textural nod to one of the island's secrets perhaps?

Good, but doesn't involve or apply the thumbscrews as much as it could, methinks.

I've just watched the last two episodes from Channel4/E4 (this week's). I like it but isn't the whole thing a bit slow?????

Watched episode 8 I think it was last night. More of the same. No real storyline, more flashbacks, ending with a song and everyone looking quite solemn.

Why am I meant to give a fuck about people's past, when I know nothing about them now? Nothing actually happens!

I'm getting bored now. What's happened to all the weird supernatural shit that happen in the first coupla episodes? If next weeks isn't better, I'm giving up on it.

:stupid:

The first lot made it look like some real interesting stuff was going on. The polar bear, the monster that ate the pilot, but now the story has stalled. There's no story line involving what's happening on the island because everything is geared toward the flashbacks. :\

You've posted your opinion before, you don't need to repeat it with nothing new to add.

For those who wish to discuss Series 2, I would suggest a seperate thread to keep those who are still on Series 1 happy. And so I will create said thread and rename this one.

Btw, I'm still quite enjoying it. Though I do have to do a catch up with C4 before this weeks E4 showing :D

Been watching it on the computer at work (cant stand the adverts every 5 mins on C4) and am up to episode 14 now I think. Although it is entertaining and suprisingly addictive (I think the child in me is enjoying the adventure aspect of being stranded on a remote island).

However, it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Just when you think the plot is going to pick up and there's gonna be some kind of revelation, there isn't. If there is a series 2, it makes me wonder how long are they going to try and drag it out?

Meaning Americans are prudes in real life.. or that american tv specifically is prudish? Both are generally true actually.. but at the same time, I thought you folks had the same reputation (not dogbomb folks, obviously, but British folks in general).

i was refering to american tv rather than the people.

i think the reputation of english people being prudish came from the 30's/40's
(which is true to an extent) Americans at this time were quite 'open' by comparision.

The rest of world excluding america has never had this opinion of us, as far as i'm aware...

I think it's fair to say that the tables have certainly turned since then.

Pretty fair conclusion, I'd say. What I'd also say is that I was pissed off when it ended with them opening the hatch.

There's too many unanswered questions from this programme, like the polar bear, the giant pilot eating whatever, the predator-like invisible movement in the jungle and the attempted dragging of Lock into the ground (complete with bizzare clicking noise).

Also, anyone else find the kidnapping of Walt highly disturbing?

Jan 15, 2006, 02:31
Yes, and I think that was entirely their plan. The old cliffhanger syndrome. I do like how they twisted it so it was walt they were after... but how come they seem so ordinary at this point when the other chap whose name I've now forgotten but stole claires baby seemed superhuman?!

Well I didn't watch this at all while it was on the first time around, except the first two, and the second two episodes. Anyway, my thoughts on it are that ....
They crashed and they are actually all dead, except they are in pergatory. ( ben gave me that bit). But, there are good and bad sides to what is happening. Hence Locke going on about black and white, two opposing sides. Also, they say alot see you in another life.

From others who think this they tend to think that Locke is Evil and Jack is Good. But I am thinking it is the other way around. Locke is the one who brings people back to the 'right' path. He stopped Charlie from taking drugs, He was the one that entered the text into the computer but he was attempting to bring Jack over to the good side by getting him to go along with it. Also, Jack is the one who has assisted with the torture of sawyer and isn't a beleiver.

Anyway, thats my thoughts on the subject

I hate jack with a passion... ok... he looks and acts like someone that I hated with a strong passion while in college (add to all that... that the dude was a med student..)... anyway.... locke is my hero. The purgatory thing has been much discussed... but the creators have said that it ain't about that... but if it was... would they admit it?.. probably not.

salsa
Jan 22, 2006, 08:57
Also, Locke is the one who has been teaching Walt to defend himself with the knives, that surely can only be the action of a good person.

Initially I admit it looks bad, but when you see what happens later on, its almost like Locke knows that he needs to know.
