View Full Version : 9/11 Movies
Beatrix Kiddo Jul 26, 2006, 07:56 there's another fucking 9/11 movie scheduled to hit theaters on august 9th, this one entitled "World Trade Center" and starring Nicolas Cage and Maggie fucking Gyllenhaal.
i find this such an incredible crock of bullshit, fucking Hollywood commercializing the WTC tragedies. i knew it had to happen sometime but i never thought it would happen this quick. it's just too fucking soon. it's been a mere 5 years. i was 11 at the time and i can still remember exactly where i was and what i was doing when i saw that plane hit the first tower on CNN. i'm sure it's still relatively fresh in a lot of people's mind, moreso the ones who who suffered losses due to 9/11, and i can't see how anyone would welcome the experience of reliving the whole thing so soon.
i never saw "United 93" and i doubt i'll be going to see this one either.
duracell Jul 26, 2006, 08:16 Would you feel the same way about Bruce Wilis making a film that tells the story of the bravery of U.S. combat troops in Iraq and their success in liberating the Iraqi people?
stevie_b Jul 26, 2006, 08:22 Get over it. It happened, the world moves on. If 5 years isn't long enough, then who's to say 10, 20 years would be?
As Duracell says, films are made about wars all the time. What makes this one so different?
Beatrix Kiddo Jul 26, 2006, 08:23 that's got about fuck all to do with the fact that Tinseltown is trying to turn 9/11 into a nominee for the "best original screenplay" Oscar and not treating the event with the gravity and respect it deserves.
Beatrix Kiddo Jul 26, 2006, 08:29 ^ was in response to the second post in this thread.

tell the families of the victims who died to get over it.
9/11 was really an unpeakable tragedy. maybe it didn't affect you quite as much 'cause you're british, but i can tell you the entire nation felt shockwaves and was sent reeling. i can guarantee that 5 years hasn't been nearly long enough to dull the pain caused by tragedy for a lot of people. it's way too soon for the movie industry to be capitalizing on this.

Your entire nation felt shockwaves because it had never happened to you lot before. Whereas we heartless fucking British had had to deal with the American funded IRA for years.
The families of the dead will never get over it. But I fail to see how this is that different to any film about anyone who has died.
Xavier Jul 26, 2006, 16:05 It can't be best original screenplay, lets face it, its gonna be a remake of the towering inferno (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072308/) but with a couple of planes instead of an electrical fire.
And whats wrong with making money out of a film about a tradgedy, I bet your cupboard is not full of fair trade products either. Now thats a proper tradgedy
hugo-a-gogo Jul 26, 2006, 16:22 it's been a mere 5 years. i was 11 at the time and i can still remember exactly where i was and what i was doing when i saw that plane hit the first tower on CNN.
well
a. you were born on march 30th 1989, you say, so you should have been 12 on the 11th of September 2001
b. why did the footage of the first plane hitting have such an effect on you, when it was only shown the next day?
New York City Jul 26, 2006, 21:05 Who gives a shit either way?
Although I have to say having had front row seats for the real deal, I have no intention of watching that irredeemable fascist cunt Oliver Stone fuck it up widescreen style.
Beatrix Kiddo Jul 27, 2006, 04:03 well
b. why did the footage of the first plane hitting have such an effect on you, when it was only shown the next day?
no the hell it was not. it was broadcast LIVE on CNN the morning the crash took place. i remember because i was in my 7th grade class. all of sudden someone comes to the door and tells the teacher something, and she switches the TV on. then during every period that day all we did was watch the news.
Mnemosyne Jul 27, 2006, 05:18 not the first plane, surely?
hugo-a-gogo Jul 27, 2006, 07:24 nope, that was the second plane hitting the second tower. why the fuck would they be showing LIVE footage of the WTC before anything had hit it, just at the exact moment some ay-rabs flew into it?
Bush got caught out with the same crap
Gladys Stovies Jul 27, 2006, 08:30 nope, that was the second plane hitting the second tower. why the fuck would they be showing LIVE footage of the WTC before anything had hit it, just at the exact moment some ay-rabs flew into it?
:stupid:
Unless..................................some people (including various news organisations) were forewarned that the first tower was about to be hit. These people also chose to alert people in schools, colleges, work places, etc, but didn't let on to the people working in the WTC.
Y'know, these conspiracy theorists may have something after all.
Just back to the "it's too soon to make a film about it" POV - when did the first WW2 films come out?
hugo-a-gogo Jul 27, 2006, 17:02 when did the first WW2 films come out?
DURING wwii
Beatrix Kiddo Jul 29, 2006, 06:19 nope, that was the second plane hitting the second tower. why the fuck would they be showing LIVE footage of the WTC before anything had hit it, just at the exact moment some ay-rabs flew into it?
Bush got caught out with the same crap
so the second plane footage was live.
but we did see some of the first place hitting as well.
and we did manage to see some live footage of the first plane hitting too because because there were tourists filming.
Flip Flopper Jul 29, 2006, 12:39 and we did manage to see some live footage of the first plane hitting too because because there were tourists filming.
No on the actual day you didn't. The footage came from a French film crew who happened to be filming a documentary about the NY Fire Dept.
fool's paradise Jul 29, 2006, 13:25 Sorry have to defend BK on this one. I was watching the BBC when the news flash came on and then I switched to BBC news 24.
What happened as burned into my memory:
1. They were showing footage of the first tower with a plume of smoke coming off it.
2. Then the second plane hit.
3. About 5 mins later they showed footage of the first plane hitting. It was sketchy at the time but it became clear in the following hours that there was a cnn news center that had it's newsroom window facing the first tower and they started to film when they saw the first plane headed towards the tower.
Flip Flopper Jul 29, 2006, 13:53 That can't be right.
Why was Bush ridiculed for talking about his feelings when he "saw" the plane hit the first tower?
fool's paradise Jul 29, 2006, 14:05 Not sure what you mean, I watched 9/11 live from about 5 mins after the first plane hit and unfortunately I have a photographic memory. It is a bitch when things like this happen, because I tend to remember disasters with horrible horrible accuracy.
I can still play back in my mind all the footage from 9/11, the zeebrugge disaster, a space shuttle exploding with a teacher on it that I saw when I was very little, the hillsborough disaster and the kings cross fire. My parents stopped me watching the news when they worked out what was going on and it's the reason I don't watch it now.
I hate defending GW, but he was in a school reading a story to some children when the planes hit. Bush was shown footage afterwards. As far as I am aware the only footage you can see from the day now is the 9/11 firemen documentary.
hugo-a-gogo Jul 30, 2006, 19:19 wrong
the only footage of the first plane is from the french brothers following the fire crew, only shown the next day (what with the french brothers being involved and unable to get out) and i think some security camera footage that came out even later
first plane hit before bush went into the schoolroom
second plane hit while he was in there
he said he saw the plane hit on tv before he went in, he didn't and he couldn't have (unless he had some secret footage we don't know about)
"And I was sitting outside the classroom waiting to go in, and I saw an airplane hit the tower – the TV was obviously on, and I use to fly myself, and I said, "There's one terrible pilot." And I said, "It must have been a horrible accident."
But I was whisked off there – I didn't have much time to think about it, and I was sitting in the classroom, and Andy Card, my chief who was sitting over here walked in and said, "A second plane has hit the tower."
the ONLY footage shown on sept 11 2001 was of the second plane hitting
fool's paradise Jul 30, 2006, 22:34 How come i sat there and watched it on the day then? Seriously hugo they showed the first plane hitting a few times before the towers collapsed,
enourmous david Jul 30, 2006, 23:00 Hugo is quite correct, so maybe your memory is lying to you.
There was 2 clips of the first plane to hit the WTC, one was from a professional who was filming the NY firemen as part of a documentary and another one taken by an amateur which has supposedly only been seen once.
The whole 9/11 thing would be even more unbelievable (see conspiracy theories elsewhere) if news cameras had managed to capture the first plane and show it live.
They showed the smoke coming from the first tower continually until the second plane hit, after that they repeatedly showed the second plane hitting.
stevie_b Jul 31, 2006, 11:22 I seem to remember them showing footage of the first plane hitting the north tower. It may have been the next day, though I'm pretty sure it was on the day it happened, but the only footage of it I saw was that shot by the crew who were doing the Fire Dept documentary.
Xavier Jul 31, 2006, 15:37 I've read a few timelines for the whole event, and they are all very specific in mentioning footage of the first crash not being publicly available until the day after. Usually this is just mentioned only to pick holes in GWs statement.
For those that think it was shown on 9\11 the only way to prove it is going to be to find a clip of the video being shown, since the only way of making that clip public in such short time would be to broadcast it via a news channel, then it stands to reason that an extract of the news program would be readily available if that was the case.
