This thread will keep us updated on how we are all doing with our weightloss programmes.

Only weigh yourself once a week. It wont come off any quicker if you weigh yourself every day, so you are just beating yourself up for no good reason stepping on the scales every morning.

*Female bodyweight can also fluctuate during the course of a month, with hormones causing water to be retained and making you slightly heavier than usual. DO NOT WORRY if one week you find you have put weight on, by the next week, it will almost certainly be gone again if you are continuing to follow your individual programme properly. Thats not to say that this is a female only forum, far from it, blokes are more than welcome to join in and take part, and indeed it was a blokes comments that started this whole thing rolling. ;)

Set yourself a realistic target weight or amount you wish to lose.

If, like me for example, you are a tall person, then you shouldnt want to be 8 stone, its not reasonable, and could cause you long term harm to be so underweight.

You can choose if you want to post your starting weight or not. If you do not wish to post your starting weight, simply tell us how much you intend to lose, so that we can keep a record of how you are doing.

Well I intend to really start my diet as from Saturday as Mr. Breeze is off for the next few days for the first time in ages and we have a few meals with friends planned. So Saturday is my weigh in day and I reckon I would like to lose between 2 and 3 stone. Am intending to be quite strict right up until christmas

Am currently 10 stone 8 pounds.

Would like to get back down to 7 stone, which, mathfans, means I need to lose 3 stone 8 pounds.

Have you got a target weight Sol?

I dont know what I currently weigh, coz I havent dared get on the scales yet, but I *think* I need to lose about 4 stone to get back to where I was before I got pregnant. That cake cravings coming back to haunt me now...

So lets say 4 stone from whatever I currently weigh.

I should know in the morning.

Well 3G, before I got all bloated and horrible I used to be 9st 12lbs. I'll never get to that weight so I'm aiming for 11 or under, depending upon if I look "right".

19st 4lbs.

Same here :pac2:

I used to be 15st 7 lbs when I was in my 20's, and although I recently got to just under 19st I have let things slide a little, so from today I am back on a healthier eating plan which does not include : fish and chips, indian takeaways, chrisps, sweets (except tictacs which I have in the car rather than smoking) biscuits and chocolate.

My current target is to get to 18st, when I get there I will take a week off and allow myself some of the items I have chosen not to have.

Well, I just got weighed, and my few days of dieting have already started to pay off it would seem. I thought I was 16st12, but the scales tell me this morning that I am 16st 6.

Which as I got to 12st 10 before, means I dont exactly have 4 stone to lose to get back to where I was before, BUT, Im going to set 4 stone as my target loss because back in the olden days I had it in my head to get to 12st 7 (I realise this seems like a lot for a lady, but have height on my side as a defence :D)

If I go lower than that, then great, but I looked well on being 12st10, so 12st7 seems like a reasonable point to get to and then review if theres anywhere that could lose a bit more.

If no-one minds, I'll keep an offline record of our progress so that when people report a weigh in each week I can compile them to one big list.

Tictacs are 2 calories, they arent going to trouble you in any way.

Davey, can I make a suggestion? You can take it or leave it, but why not have a day each fortnight or weekly where you treat yourself? It wont make any difference to your overall weight loss, and (remembering that this worked for me, might not work for you but is worth a try) it actually gave my metabolism a bit of a boost to have a day off here and there and just eat the things I enjoy.

The reason I suggest this, is that over the course of a week, a day where you have a treat or a meal that you have denied yourself will make no difference at all. However, doing that every day over the course of a week will probably bung 4-7lb back on the scale without you even trying.

Plus you dont have as far to go to get to your treat, and you always know its on its way so you dont miss it quite so much.

I'm battling to figure out everything in stones! Having to keep using an on-line conversion thingy! But I reckon I am currently just under 13 stone (also freakishly tall, 3G-UM) and would be happy to get to 11 stone.

Preferably want to get there by my birthday (25 Nov), which is when I'll be going home to SA and having to see ex-boyf, ex-friends and other random people, and I'd rather be the skinny me by then.

Do-able?

Minx
Oct 19, 2006, 12:48
Maybe not the whole way, but you could certainly get a decent bit off before you go. Realistically you should hope to lose about 1-2lb a week, as you dont have a lot to lose anyway it might come off slower for you, the last bit is always the hardest, but if you were particularly strict with yourself theres no reason why you couldnt get into the 11 stone bracket, even if not all the way to your target. Always good to have something to aim for.

I'm about 12 stone 4lbs I think. Not really bothered about a target weight, just need to shrink the beer gut a bit, maybe turn it into more of a six pack, and actually get some form of fat and/or muscle on my skinny as fuck arms.

After seeing the discussions here last night I weighed myself for the first time in ages, and was amazed that although I thought I'd lost plenty weight in the last couple of months, it's actually pretty much stayed the same. But I've dropped at least 1 (if not more) in jeans size. I've been doing so much walking and other exercise I've obviously turned a lot of it to muscle, which weighs more, am I correct?

Is it not more accurate to rather use measurements instead of weighing?

I'm sure it's a lot more of a pain in the arse (heh) tho.

I don't own any scales and I'd rather not know how much I weigh. First time on Weight Watchers I lost 22 lbs, then went off the rails. I went back this year but I didn't have the heart for it so I only lost about 8 before I gave up. Today I fit into a pair of jeans I've been too big for for a long time, so I'm a happy bunny.

Its been 10 days since my last weigh in and tbh I havent really been trying, I am disapointed with myself, but I will try harder in the coming week, currently no change.

My biggest failure was probably due to my love of fry ups. We went to the local butchers to get a few bits and pieces and the butcher said he had the Hogs Pudding in that I asked him for a few weeks ago, so we got that and also everything else needed for a decent fry up, but we didnt just get enough for one fry up, but 2 or 3!

I was quite confused that I only lost 1 pound last week because usually when I've done diets before I've lost a lot more, but my maw said that sometimes it takes a few weeks for your body to get used to it and then it all drops off. So it could be that your body is just adjusting to your new diet. Anyway, it's awesome you haven't gained any!

Plus I decided yesterday, even if I'm not losing weight at the moment, I'm definately getting a lot healthier. I haven't been having any coke or junk food and I used to shove quite a lot of it down my throat.

Funny that, someone suggested to me today that smoothies are a good way of increasing calorie intake! I'll ask maw to buy me some when she's next going shopping.

I'd rather drink something over having a snack 'cause firstly I don't drink enough anyway and secondly I don't like eating between meals.

If you have the patience, making your own is best, there was a recipe thread on here for them aaages ago.

If not then innocent smoothies, whilst pretty damn expensive compared to the supermarket own brand ones, are the :dog:'s BOLLOCKS I have a real fetish for their banana and coconut one, it's gorgeous.

I have 4 lbs to lose to get to a BMI of 25. My target is to get to a BMI of about 23 (still well within the healthy limits). That would mean losing a stone. Still don't have scales, will see if I can get cheapish ones somewhere.

My sister in law went to Weight Watchers and reached her target weight....she has maintained that now for over 2 years - she still goes to her weekly class which keeps her on track she says. More often than not she has to show her 'fat' photos to new starters as they do not believe she ever had a weight problem.

2007 is going to be MY year - sod everyone else - I need to concentrate on me for a change :)

Wootingtons!

I was a wee bit naughty over christmas and restarted again a few days ago.

I weighed myself at the beginning - and (Im a swine for weighing myself every day the first few days of a diet to make sure Im headed in the right direction) have lost 4lbs since commencement.

Onwards and downwards!!!

At the rate I normally lose weight when dieting - and given the fact that I have 30 weeks to get to my target, I reckon I'll be bang on for London.

Which will be v nice indeed.

2lb is a good amount to lose! It means you are losing weight safely and healthily.

Remember I probably have a fair bit more than average to get rid of, and this was the first week Ive been seriously working at it for a while, I dont expect that sort of loss to be a usual occurence ;)

dominoid
Jan 13, 2007, 13:33
Hmm, I've lost a little bit so I'm not so embarrassed about putting my actual weight now. I'm still the rather portly 15st7b though :(
I don't' know how that equates to my x target as I can't remember what that was except it was over 17 stone. I'm trying to get to about 12 stone 7 now so another 3 to go.
I'm not taking the very seriously am I? I'm certainly not achieving much anyway. Maybe I should follow suit of my work colleague who went on a sponsored weight loss for the bulimic society... Either that or just stop shovelling crap down my throat. I'm doing really well at work and eating slim fast meals but that's more because it's easier than making a packed lunch and then I'm eating crap when I get home from work. I think my major problem is I eat too fast and I don't stop eating when I'm full. I clear my plate because that's what you always did in my household, there were starving Africans and all that.

LordSnot
Jan 13, 2007, 13:43
Yes! Dominoid, I love you! (not in that way, GIR, he's all yours). Finally someone with the same problem. I always clean my plate even when I'm not hungry, it's what I was bought up doing and it's incredibly hard not to do. I've also got a habit of leaving the "best bit" of my meal until last (don't ask, it's an OCD thing) e.g. the meat in a roast dinner so even if I really don't want it, I have to eat the last bit because it's the best. I just can't kick these habits. If I have something fatty or something that I know is "bad" I HAVE to have fruit afterwards as a sort of cleansing thing, as if by taking in more calories I'm undoing the ones I just ate. This is also a bad habit.

I need help.

Hey, you know what is super fucking annoying? I quite like the idea of the Slim Fast thing, they were handing out free samples of a shake in Boots once and I only had a mouthful but I was so full afterwards I didn't eat my lunch. So I got all motivated and thought right, I'm going to lose it all this time and went off to buy some, but it all has too much effing sugar in it. Even the sodding SOUP has too much. It's no bloody fair, I really think I could do well on a Slim Fast diet.

I've also got a habit of leaving the "best bit" of my meal until last (don't ask, it's an OCD thing)

ha ha, I do exactly the same thing. Possibly even worse, because I try everything that's on my plate, decide on the best bits and then leave as much of that till the end, carefully measuring it out so that my last three mouthfuls are all a perfect combination of the best stuff. ie: like in a roast with veggies, I'll save the best three pieces of meat, and then select three pieces of the best vegetable and put it with the three pieces of meat and eat them together. It is possibly my greatest joy in life.

And it does mean that you'll never stop eating when you're full, because you want to get to the best bits.

I reckon our parents brainwashed us.

Hamry
Jan 14, 2007, 14:03
I used to eat everything on plate because it was how I was brought up, and I tend to still leave the best bits till last. But recently I've started stopping when I'm full. Yes it's a shame when I can't eat the tastiest thing on my plate, but I'd rather not eat what I don't need and feel better for it after. I've also learnt to give myself smaller portions

Well done everyone on their weightloss! And GIR, 2lbs in a week is fantastic

Kinky McFoxxy
Jan 14, 2007, 14:25

I was going to go to Tesco's and get the ingredients to three or four recipes from the recipe thread, but then I found out I have £10 in the bank so I think that idea is out...

Kinky McFoxxy
Jan 20, 2007, 11:45
You can make enough broccolis soup for 8 servings for about 60p.

Need about 200g broccoli (about 25p in Tesco)
1 onion (probably about 10p)
1 medium potato (about 10p too)
2 stock cubes (can get 10 for 19p from Morrisons)

Ok, so that's 64p but not really cos you have extra stock cubes.

I am teh queen of cooking on a serious budget.

Pasta (500g, 19p Morrisons- does about 5 big, 8 small servings)
Tin tomatoes (13p)
1 chilli (or invest in a bag of chilli flakes from an Indian food shop- I got 250g for 59p)
1 onion (about 10p)
You could be flash and buy some garlic, but that's about 50p

And hey presto you have enough pasta arribiata to feed 4 with pasta left over for another day.

Sorry for the ot posting, btw.

Minx
Feb 4, 2007, 19:14
Basically, you spend the week obsessing about battered mars bars, even trying to coerce your sister whos on a diet into trying to make them for you.

When you get no joy there, then you go out hunting for chip shops that may sell such an item. After visiting 50 or more chip shops, you have burnt enough calories by sitting on your backside steering a wheel that you can afford to allow the two battered mars bars into your system.

I think thats how it works anyway.

Right. I haven't been weighing myself very regularly at all. Partly due to being a lazy fuck, partly due to the fear it'll be horrendous (but mostly it's the lazy thing) But I've done it today and I shall try and weight myself every Monday from now on. Our scales are shit, I can't find any way to convert it to proper English measurements so it's all in kg, forcing me to piss about with Google conversions.

Last week: 91kg approx (think it was about 91.1) = 200.62lb

This week: 90.2kg = 198.85lb

So still over 14st (ahem) but just under 2 lb less. Not bad for a week's work, guess the walk did a good chunk of that as opposed to my "healthy eating sometimes" regime.

Well, I've just remembered why I gave up last time.

This past 7 days:
Always had a small breakfast (well, cereal bar)
Drank mostly water
Stuck to healthy lunches like low calorie sandwiches and pasta salads
Avoided snacking
Didn't drink masses of beer (biggest binges being the 14th and saturday but nothing new on the latter)
Walked into town every lunchtime
Walked up one of the peaks in the Langdales area, ~2400ft, on Sunday
Felt hungry quite often

And put on 1lb!! :wtf:

Hamry
Feb 20, 2007, 17:51
Well there could be many reasons for that. You might actually be under your calorie intake and therefore your body thinks it's starving and stores everything it can as fat.

Or your body could just be adjusting and that

Don't sweat it ;)

I've lost one of my gained pounds. Woot!

Well done! Is that what you lost in just one week? Well done again! In my opinion, it doesn't matter if what you lose is strictly fat, water, muscle, big poo or whatever, the fact some weight has gone means something good, and makes you feel good. Nutritionists however will disagree with me but I think they only make sense when you're not dieting ;)

Two hours a DAY?? Christ almighty I can barely find the time or the will to do more than ten minutes a day on my stepper!

That'll be why I'M not losing weight and YOU are. Feel good, no? ;)

I missed my weekly weigh in but it'll come as no suprise to anyone let alone myself that my weight hasn't changed.

BUT! For the first time in a year, I didn't treat a night off work like an excuse to have a 'treat'. I get 3 nights off a week, how can I have treats almost half a week? My mind tries to justify why it's okay to eat food that won't help me lose weight. Same as when I quit smoking. When you're in desperate need you think of excuses. Last night I ate a tuna steak with low fat ginger, soy and sesame sauce. The most calories would have been in the rice I had with it, half a packet of one of those microwave rices (shush, I like them :P) and as I always want to taste something sweet even if I'm full, I had a fruit jelly with fruit pieces. It's a compromise between ice cream or chocolate and a proper piece of fruit because I really don't like the latter unless it's smothered in something, and it's a bit much after a full meal.

Looooooook trying to justify myself again!

LordSnot
Mar 16, 2007, 09:51
Actually muscle weighs a lot more than fat so starting intensive exercise can halt weight loss for a time, although in the long run you need regular exercise to keep the weight off. It's great to do, just don't be disheartened if you aren't losing weight (or even putting it on) when you start working out. :)

I'm bloody jealous. Despite reducing myself from a sandwich and fruit jelly to a nutrigrain bar at work for the last two weeks, eating only scabby low fat ready meals for tea and having a bowl of apple pieces covered in petit filous for breakfast, I have shifted nothing.

I did really well on the weekend too until I was invited out to TWO mother's bloody day meals. Even though I picked all the healthiest options I could find, and skipped dessert and even the damn starter, I've got nowhere.

Gimme your secret, as my own don't work any more :(

I pack as much nourishment into what I eat as is humanly possible and I eat until I'm satisfied, but not overly full.

I always have porridge for breakfast, as it gives you slow-release energy and keeps you fuller for longer. I sometimes have it for lunch, too- you can pop it in the microwave.

I also eat a lot of veg and pulse- based stews. No real secret- just fresh, tasty food!

I'm a fantastic 10 stone 5. Yes, all that dieting has REALLY worked, and I've managed to put on 3lbs! It might have been due to being on my period, where for some reason, every damn month for three days or so my willpower is shot to shreds and I eat chocolate bars without even blinking. Normally I'd um and ahh over whether I should but at this time of month... GONE.

Maybe that's a poor excuse though. I like Monday mornings because I look my slimmest, despite actually being heavier.

I'm going on holiday in a month and it doesn't look like I'm going to make it back into my size 12's. Best go shopping then. Been putting it off because it feels like you're accepting the weight rather than trying to remove it.

Oh dear god I don't want a size 14 wedding dress ><

People say your best weight is the one you're comfortable at. Do you think it's true? Because I'm comfortable at 9st 4-6lbs.

I drink at the weekend. No matter how hard I try, I can't stop myself running out at 8pm and buying a four pack. It's a terrible habit and I'm almost certain it's the cause of my weight problem, along with the junk I eat when I'm arseholed.

Fair point!

It's generally true but it depends. Some people feel comfortable at 2 or 30 stone, despite the health risks. Realistically, unless you see a doctor/dietician/Personal trainer etc it's hard to find an ideal weight but at the end of the day it's generally common sense to work out roughly what you should be.

The other thing is, is it easier to change your weight, or the weight you feel comfortable at? If you can change the way you feel about your weight, would that be easier than changing your weight itself?

Alas, it's much harder to change the weight you feel comfortable at. There's a certain 'look' to your body shape that you find satisfactory and that look changes when you gain weight, so you won't be satisfied any more.

I seriously think my biggest problem is not how much I weigh, but how my body looks. Because I used to be a lot heavier at one point in my life, I developed a bit of a gut, which turned to flab when I lost the weight. I will always have this little bit of stomach and gut sticking out, even if I got down to a stupid weight. I've tried exercise but it just won't go. I don't think there's any muscle in there. It's just empty skin. If that went, then I wouldn't gawp at my gut constantly. K I'm boring myself now.

Thanks for the encouragement. Size 14 isn't overweight, but it is at the limit. I struggle to eat healthily these days because everything comes in a pack for two people and the fella needs to eat a lot of fat. Hard to compromise, as I hate wasting what's left over.

As for the beach, I went topless 80% of the time last year because I was slim but there's no chance I'm wearing a bikini this year! You've just reminded me to sort out new bathing wear!

I'm not sure whether it's common knowledge but very often when you first start exercising properly you actually gain weight because of muscles growing. Since muscle weighs more than fat, your weight increases for a short time. The more muscle you have the more fat you burn.

It may contradict this thread, but during my 6 year gym obsession (which it was as it took over my life) I didn't weigh myself. It was how I looked which I judged my progress on.

My new job is helping me lose weight, although not necessarily in a good way. I'm 10st 4lbs - higher than the last time I posted I think but still lower than the revolting weight I reached after coming back from my holiday - 10st 9lbs I think it was.

I'm feeling good, my size 14's are becoming looser. In my job I'm encouraged to eat my tea with the service users, and provisions are made for the staff so that we can share their food... but some of them eat stuff I won't eat like pork chops and boiled-to-death potatoes so I carry fruit'n'fibre cereal bars around with me and little packs of raisins and nuts just in case. Seems to work.

I make up for it by having a better lunch at home before my shift starts.

I guess having a cold helps too. I can't be bothered to eat nice food if I can't taste it. Just a waste of food.

Wooo go Minx!!!
Can I ask, are you going vegan due to the animal cruelty side/ intolerance or allergy to dairy or because it feels like a healthy diet?
I'm not trying to be awkward, I just wanted to point out that as human beings we are omnivores. Healthy eating with a lower amount of dairy and meat with a higher vegetable consumption can be achieved without cutting out certain food groups completely. Also there are ways to support better farming methods on the animal cruelty side.
I'm not belittling your decisions to undertake veganism in the slightest and certainly not if you're doing for animal cruelty measures. Although, remember... PETA stands for People for the Eating of Tasty Animals ;)

Ok, firstly, Im not "going" vegan - Im eating a predominantly vegan diet. If you want to generalise, its more accurately titled vegetarian - but the vast majority of the meals I am eating are vegan in content.

As for the reasons - well here is the story...

As you know, Harmy, who is MOST definitely vegan, came up to stay for a week just prior to the WW meet. Up until she did, I had always eaten some meat, not every day, but several times a week, and had been fairly conditioned to "I cant live without meat". The animal cruelty side of things did bother me, but not enough to stop me eating meat.

One other thing to be aware of in this story is that previous to that I had been suffering a quite serious recurrence of IBS symptoms.

Because Harmy was coming, I had to plan for vegan cooking, and it made sense for at least me if no-one else to eat with her, I wanted to be supportive, and I also wanted to see if I was actually capable of doing it myself.

I bought the recipe book I mentioned in the vegan recipe thread - which as it happened was a) low GI, and b) while not entirely vegan in content, was the best Smiths had on offer in terms of possible vegan variety, was on sale, and I had a £5 off voucher.

Anyhoo - back at the ranch, Harmy duly arrived and between us we created a variety of fairly exotic and totally vegan meals. I tried all sorts of things I had never tried before, like making sushi, and eating tofu, and making my own hummus, and a selection of recipes from both my cookbook and the one she brought with her. Note to all, you only need a tiny dot of Wasabi to make everyone lol. A good smear, will make them cry. :D

As the week passed, I began to notice the subsidence of the IBS symptoms, and an overall feeling of better health. And the weight began to drop off, despite the fact that we were eating LOADS, and not much of it was particularly low calorie, it was just BETTER for me. I think generally my body suits that sort of eating better.

The low GI aspect of the cooking ensures that I feel fuller for longer and the fact that I am actually eating a properly balanced diet can only be a good thing. My skin is much clearer, and I FEEL a lot healthier. Even Mr Minx, who is the original carnivore, got into the spirit of it and ate a lot of the stuff we were cooking. He is still trying the stuff Im making now, too, which is nice...

When we came back from London, I decided that I would continue with it for as long as it suits me.
Im not ruling out ever eating meat again, or any of the things I am currently cutting out. I may however think twice about it before I do eat them.

I would hope however, that as long as I am eating healthily, whatever the reasons behind it - that I wouldnt be belittled, especially when Im doing such a good job of currently "be-littling" myself. I'm actually really grateful to Harmy, for teaching me a great deal about myself and about veganism.

Aug 16, 2007, 21:46
I'm not trying to be awkward, I just wanted to point out that as human beings we are omnivores.

About 3 months ago I'd have agreed with you there, but I'm starting to think maybe we're not. Now how I phrase this next bit is going to be hard, so I'm going to say right now that I totally don't have a problem with people eating animal products, this is just how I've started to feel since dropping them from my diet. I think the majority of us are conditioned to see animal products as something we NEED in our diets. I grew up in an environment where I had meat every day. I remember saying I wanted to be vegetarian when I was 8/9 years old and my dad forcing feeding me the meat for dinner that night, and every night I protested after. He wasn't being an arse, even though he went about it the wrong way, he truly believed that it was unhealthy not to have meat in my diet and wanted to get sense into my head.

Since then I was a huge meat eater. 3 months ago I was eating fried chicken, rare steak, all kinds of seafood. I'd get through blocks and blocks of cheese. I'd sit at home and crave a scotch egg, or a chunk of cheddar. I wouldn't just fancy it. I NEEDED it to feel good. Now you could say thats because humans should have animal products, that's why they craved it. But how come I've never once had a craving since I've stopped? I'll admit I got drunk and wanted a chicken burger (this only happened once), but I think that's still down to me being used to going out, getting trashed and forcing undercooked/greasy meat down my throat. I've hardly been drinking since I've been vegan and I'm sure that was down to my old routine. But yeah, craving foods like that? I don't think that's healthy.

The longer I've kept away from meat the more I've started to think about what I was actually eating. I don't want to consume something that was a living, breathing creature just like me. I don't want animal fat going through my body, clogging up my artery's and all that. I can sit and watch people eat meat, I can cook it for them, serve it up and I don't mind, but the thought of me, MYSELF eating meat and feeling it go down my throat...that doesn't feel normal anymore. And I think that's because I'm breaking all the stuff I got told WAS normal. I'm thinking for myself and not taking in what I've been told.

If you have a balanced animal free diet you get EVERYTHING you 'need' from meat. Infact, I think I get way more of the good things through green veg, chickpeas, lentils, tofu and all the other foods I'm eating than I ever got through meat. You can be allergic to soya and still be vegan. You can be allergic to nuts and still be vegan. Yes you might need to take more things into consideration, but they can't stop you being a healthy vegan.

Leaving the animal products out of my diet has changed me a lot. My problems with mental illness have gotten a little better, I rarely feel so down on myself or feel so anxious. I don't look at food and constantly worry about what's in it, or feel like I've eaten way too much and still have to carry on because I NEED to finish. My skin is clear, I'm losing weight but hey, I don't even care about that! It's a bonus! I can walk up a hill without getting out of breath. I have more energy and I actually want to get out of bed in the mornings.

I guess I'm trying to explain the many reasons people go vegan. There is NO reason better than another. There really isn't. And it grates me when I first started and people accused me of not being a REAL vegan because I don't go on about cruelty as my main point of change. I do have my views on that, but it's something I need to find the time to look into before saying things that might not be true.

Minx, your post was lovely. I'm touched that you've actually been able to understand where I'm coming from with this and that you want to carry it on for as long as you're happy with it. I do understand that for people who haven't tried veganism, it's hard to see how it can be an effective and enjoyable diet. It wasn't until I tried it to support one of my friends that I realised it was do-able. The reason I write about veganism in WW is because I want people to see the variety of foods I'm eating. It's fantastic when I cook a vegan meal and people say they enjoyed it. I have felt that I've had to prove myself with this. I had the shit ripped out of me from my family when I first began, and it made me feel like crap, because there I was, trying something new and I wanted support. I didn't want to feel like a weirdo, or that this is a phase. Believe me it's not. Now, after 3 months, they all think I'm some strong person for giving up animal products..I'm not...I love doing it. It's not a chore.

I guess that's all I want to say. This is not a HEY! EVERYONE! GO VEGAN! post. This is HEY! I'M VEGAN AND IT'S A NORMAL DIET, JUST LIKE YOURS! Loads of people think that vegans judge people who eat meat, that they're hippies, that they whine about animal cruelty all the time but all vegans who hate PETA or aren't a part of it (and there's a fair few of us) don't think like that at all ;)

Thank you! It was just me being nosey to find out why and you have both stated extremely good cases for it. My family has always cooked more veggie meals and since starting whale watchers, I have pretty much stopped eating cheese.

The PETA comment was just me being facetious after seeing one of the groups you'd joined Harmy!!!
