Isn't 1000 calories quite low for a woman? I thought it was meant to be 2500 for a guy and 2000 for a woman so 1000 would leave you plenty of scope for weight loss? or do I have my sums wrong?

Kinky McFoxxy

Yes it is low, but the reason for that is explained in the "relationship with food" thread :)

Please put some info about sweet potato chips in the low fat recipes thread k thanks. I know they arent exactly "a recipe" but I'd be interested in cooking times and temps etc, I think I might like to try that, and it would be a good way to get a different sort of veg into the Munchkin.

PS :bigthumb: for today ;)

Been a tougher day today- got bit panicky when it came to dinnertime, didn't really want to eat but managed to have something. Am thinking about having a cereal bar, cos that lot up there is only about 660cals. The problem is, when it gets to this time of day and I've only had that many calories I get a sort of sense of morbid satisfaction because I've managed to get by on not much and anything I eat makes me feel like a bloater. Have chicken tapas things in the fridge, might have them cos they're only about 100 cals for the pack of 4 and they're quite light.

Hope tomorrow will be a bit better!

Been really busy today! Well, that's not true, but it takes me so much longer than usual to do things that it seems like I've been on the go all day. Had to meet my niece to give her something then popped by the continental market that's on in Glasgow just now, cos we have mates from Leeds staying with us who have a stall there. Did a bit of food shooping and came home to make a big batch of soup because everyone's going to be getting in at different times so they can help themselves, plus another friend is coming over so I can feed him, too!

Anyway... as a result of the hectic nature of my life, I have managed the following:

Breakfast: yogurt (50cals)
apple (on bus to meet my niece!) (approx 50cals)

Lunch: leftover couscous salad (about 150cals)

Dinner will probably be a couple of bowls of soup (200cals max) so going to have a nice M&S rhubarb organic yogurt (120cals) and probably a wee banana (75cals). Might indulge in a Kit Kat (110cals) later, too! Need to buck up my ideas, so I do.

Ok, had 1 bowl of soup, about 100cals, and a little bit of pasta, about 200cals. On about 800cals today, not too bad for me. Might have a wee glass of wine later when the girls get back from the market ;)

Lunch- leftover pasta (about 200cals)
Dinner- we're getting a Greek takeaway, I think- chicken souvlaki for me, woot! And some dolmades, and possibly some tzatziki...yummmmm... keeping it low fat, though, no moussaka or kleftiko or feta for me!

Today so far-

Breakfast- yogurt-120cals

Snack- cereal bar- 70cals

Lunch will be leek and sweet potato broth, which has hardly any calories in it, but we'll say about 80cals for a big bowl. Will probably have couple of crispbreads and hummus which adds about 50cals.

Dinner may be more soup or possibly chicken fillet and veg, or probably both! So we're looking at about 250-300cals for that. Will either have another yogurt or a Skinny Cow, adding about 100cals, and possibly more crackers and hummus. Will let you know, am sure you're riveted!

Went out for lunch with mum and sister yesterday, so was a bit of a blow out, calorie wise! Had a huuuuuge chickeny sandwichy thing with salad and stuff. Breakfast was as normal. Had a couple of crackers for dinner, so maybe balanced it out a wee bit!

Today:

Breakfast: organic yogurt 120cals
2 crisprolls and low fat cheese about 60cals

Lunch: 1/2 tin of mac and cheese 160cals
slice of Nimble 47cals

Dinner will probably be soup and a salad or chicken and veg or something nice if I feel like going to the shops.

Snacks: probably a wee bag of Maltesers and/or a skinny cow, and maybe some carrots and hummus.

Does anyone read this?! It must be sooooo boring. Think I will start to include my outfits...

Today I am wearing:

Black narrow leg jeans that taper out a wee bit at the bottom (more flattering than skinnies)
A black tunic-y top with short puff sleeves
My silver owl necklace
My silver heart pendant
A narrow black sparkly hairband
Big(ish) hair
Lots of smoky eye make up
Gloss
Alexander McQueen perfume

ok... that's still boring... oh well.
No shoes yet

Gaaaaahhhh, been in such a munchy mood these days. Been trying to keep it to a minimum and def not been eating more than about 1300cals a day but feel so fat for eating more :S

Am cutting back again, trying to keep it to about 1000cals because it just makes me feel better. The other half bought Pringles last night, though. BUT I've only had a few.

So I'm trying to stick to:

Breakfast: Porridge made with water: about 130cals
Lunch: Soup: Generally about 90-100cals 2 crackerbreads: about 40cals
Dinner: Soup: about 120cals
Pasta: normally about 200cals
Bean stew: about 200cals
Chicken and veg: about 200cals

Snacks: fruit, crispbreads, small bar of chocolate etc.

I do NOT want to get fat again!!!!!!!!!! Gaaaaaaahahahahahahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

OMFGGGGGGGGGG!!!!1111!!!!1!1!!!!!! Christmas shoppers are morons! I fully intended to spend an hour in the shops today, head home and clean the flat. Didn't happen. Got the shopping done, though :D So, due to morons I have not really eaten properly today. I had:

Porridge: 150cals
1 pack M&S limited edition Christmas crisps: 180cals :eyepop:

And for dinner I'm having a spicy chicken fillet and a wee spot of beans, which will be about 250cals. Will probably have some nice soup too. Am knackered!!!!!

Today:

Breakfast- porridge made with water: about 130cals

Lunch will be broccoli and celeriac soup that I made yesterday, probably about 100cals, and some wholemeal crispbreads and low fat pate, about 100cals.

Dinner, depending on the other half, will be half a beef chow mein or a Subway, both of which will be about 500cals, and a couple of gins, about 45cals each. May also have more porridge tonight as it is a great late night munchy snack.

Breakfast- porridge made with water- 130cals
slice toast- 50cals

Lunch- 2 small finger rolls with the middle pulled out, and 4 small (30cals each) hotdogs- I'm guessing about 300cals all in (such a naughty lunch!).

Dinner- pork and mustard mash with leeks (homemade)- probably about 150-200g pork and 100g potatoes, which would be about 350-400cals (yikes!).

So that's 830-880cals and I am so stuffed! Will probably have a skinny cow later. And maybe a gin or two. But for now I'm lying, bloated, on the sofa. Bleargh.

Kinky, please dont take this the wrong way, but your posts in here worry me quite a lot. I know you have mentioned in the past having issues about food and I dont feel from your posts that these have particularly gone away. One of the things I tried to impress on everyone when starting up this forum is that food is not a bad thing and whilst some of us need to lose weight for our health, one of the things we really need to avoid is treating food as though its a bad thing outright.

I would like to strongly suggest that you seek medical advice surrounding your issues with food because you may be nearing what you consider to be the correct weight for your height but you still are viewing food with very negative eyes and berating yourself for eating what is basically a very low calorie diet. I am concerned that you may end up going too far and still not being satisfied with yourself when you do get to your target weight. You find it very hard to eat even a sub 1000 calorie a day diet, if you cannot bring that up to 2000 calories a day when you get to your target weight you will continue losing weight and could cause yourself as many health problems as being overweight would cause you.

Please know that my comments are made only out of concern for you. I am glad that you are comfortable enough within this forum to discuss your eating habits and have no desire to either deter you from doing so, or label you as having an eating disorder but I do think you have deep rooted issues relating to food that need to be explored before you do end up causing yourself long term harm.

Had porridge as usual yesrterday morning, then about 12 had some crackers and hummus.

Then we went to the pub for lunch :D

Three of us shared 2 starters (tempura chicken and potato wedges topped with roasted peppers and parmesan) and then I had a sourdough bap with organic pork sausage and red onion with salad on the side. Was yum. V filling too. No idea how many calories, the bap had 2 sausages in it, guessing about 400cals for the lot, and God knows how many cals in the starters!

Went to Asda, had a hankering for bourbon creams and needed veg for soup and stuff for the stew I'm making today (chicken, chickpea and chorizo). Had a bourbon in the car on the way home.

Got home and made cock-a-leekie soup cos we got loads of chicken from Morrisons (buy one get one free on boxes of chicken thighs) and had a bowl of that for dinner, followed by a skinny cow smoothie bar (they're amazing- they're new, and only 74cals each). Demolished another bourbon or two as well.

Don't have a clue how many calories I ate and don't care. Had a really nice day, relaxed and happy, only slightly spoiled by the fact that I'm getting bad pains in my back again (well, down my right buttock, which is what happened when the disc was touching the nerve, and if that's happening again that's not good).

Will post the recipe for the stew later- I'm adapting a Nigel Slater recipe for chickpea and chorizo stew. I'm adding chicken and using less chorizo to cut down on the calories but to keep the yummy chorizo flavour. That's dinner sorted!

Had porridge (with a few choc chips)- about 180cals

Will have cock-a-leekie soup for lunch- about 100cals- and a couple of crispbreads with hummus- about 50cals (or maybe 4 crispbreads and hummus to up calories to 100).

Will have 2 bourbons and a cuppa mid afternoon (150cals).

Dinner will be the stew- rough calculations in my head from what I'm going to add would make it about 250cals per portion (1 portion being 1 chicken thigh, 1/4 tin chickpeas, about 1 inch of chorizo, tinned tomatoes, onion and carrot) so think I'll make wither mash or couscous with that (about 100cals extra).

THEN I'll prob have a skinny cow (74cals). By then I'll probably be making tomorrow's soup, so will probably have a small bowl of that (most probably broccoli and cauliflower, about 80cals for a small portion).

That's a grand total of 1034cals (but we're not there yet...we'll see if I manage it, fingers crossed).

Kinky McFoxxy
Jan 16, 2007, 14:23
Ok, today...

Breakfast-
Small piece of low fat carrot cake (that I made all by myself :D)- about 100cals, seeing as I cut it into smaller bits than the recipe said.

Then I had a bath and a bourbon cream- 75cals

Then I got out the bath and had porridge (let's call this lunch)- 160cals(ish)

Then about 5mins ago I had a cracker with a scrape of hummus (about 25cals)

Might have soup soon (80cals).

Dinner will be the stew I made yesterday, probably with some potato or leftover couscous, coming in at about 350cals for the lot.

THEN I'll probably have more carrot cake and probably more soup (about 180cals) and possibly a bourbon or two.

Am trying desperately to eat more, building it up gradually, but it's taking time because I'm not used to eating lots any more. But I am trying! Ask the other half :D

Am trying desperately to eat more, building it up gradually, but it's taking time because I'm not used to eating lots any more. But I am trying! Ask the other half :D

That's the truth :)

Minx, thanks for your kind words.....

FYI the most important thing in my eyes is that Kinky has a far healthier attitude to food than she used to. She enjoys cooking, making and eating fab soups and stews, cakes and much more besides. She is in control and gets a lot of guilt free pleasure from food.

This is a BIG step forward and while it's an ongoing "battle" the fact her attitude is more positive hopefully means she can handle the "down" days a lot better than before.

Building up gradually is the way to go - going from one extreme to the other is a definite No No

Breakfast was porridge, as per usual (160cals)

Then I made the mistake of deciding to get my haircut before I had lunch. The lovely hairdresser talked me into getting colour cos they were doing 50% off colour and I said ok cos I was bored with my hair. I now have a fabulous fringe and a gorgeous sleek graduated bob, kind of like a pob, in a lovely rich dark brown with two block flashes of (wait for it...) platinum blonde under the short layers. It's fucking awesome, edgy and shexshay ;)

BUT

it took 3 hours to do it! I came home and just devoured 2 slices of Nimble and a few thin slices of cheese, toasted. Guessing about 200cals. I could eat my own fist.

Having sausage and mash for dinner, low fat sausages (65cals each) so that'll be about 350cals.

Bugger! Need to eat more... will possibly have porridge later, too, and soup, and maybe more toast.

But hey, my hair looks good!

Porridge for breakfast, as per usual 160cals

Lunch was pasta and 2 crackerbreads, about 200cals

Dinner will be Greek takeaway, I think- no idea how many cals but yum!

Also had a bourbon cream 65cals.

May have some hand brownies.

Kinky McFoxxy
Jan 19, 2007, 17:19
Just had a bit of toast and cheese and pineapple. I shouldn't buy cheese. I tend to eat it. But I slice it thinly! Was 55cal bread and 3 thin slices of cheese, in total about 100cals.

Kinky McFoxxy
Jan 19, 2007, 19:59
That Greek food was splendid.

Ended up getting a full meze for 2 between the 3 of us.

Tzaziki, hummus and pita bread
Mousaka, dolmades and keftedes
Kleftiko, chicken kebab, sis kofte
Rice, potatoes, Greek salad

Had a little bit of everything- the 3 of us had full plates and there was some left! Their portions are MASSIVE. Was absolutely delicious, though. And healthier than a Chinese/Indian/Mexican/Chippy/Pizza.

I shouldn't buy cheese. I tend to eat it

I know what you mean with cheese - it's a definite 'trigger' food - start and you don't want to stop.

I now grate mine everytime. It's quite suprising what 2oz of cheese looks like when it's grated. It's definitely cut down my intake.

Yesterday we went to the best pub in Glasgow for lunch (w00t Sleazy's) so let's not even try to count the calories in that! But enjoyed every mouthful of lunch and my cherry beer :D

Today:

Breakfast- rhubarb M&S yogurt- 120cals
slice of toast- 49cals

Lunch- 1/2 a Spanish omlette with courgette, onion and a wee bit cheese
(not sure how many cals exactly- guessing about 250) with slice of bread (49cals)

Fudge- 120cals

Dinner- chicken and chorizo stew with couscous- about 350cals

So that's 938 in total so far! Am nicely full and everything was delicious- yay for my cooking!

Dinner- 1 ladle of soup to see how it was- about 40cals. Chicken and chorizo stew and a bit of bread- about 300cals

Hmm, feels like I've eaten more than that...

Will probably have a Muller layers later (100cals).

Ok, had 1/2 tin of macaroni and cheese (160cals) and 2 crispbreads for dinner (40cals).

Had a milkybar choo (116cals).

Just had another small bowl of soup and half a small crusty roll (probably about 150cals).

So, for the day, that makes 1000 exactly. Not bad.

I feel so yuck.

Got up and had a mug of hot water with a tiny bit of honey, lemon and ginger in it, cos my throat is v sore. That helped with the swallowing pain, so I had my porridge (160cals).

Will probably have homemade soup for lunch (about 100cals) and lots more hot water with honey, lemon and ginger.

Can feel my nose starting to get yucky, though :(

And before the "you need to eat more" brigade kick in-

I don't feel well today, I'm not in the mood to eat much, and I'm not fucking anorexic. I know what anorexia is, I've witnessed it in a close member of my family, and flippant comments about eating disorders are not welcome in this thread, or in any thread if they're being aimed at me.

OK?

Hamry
Jan 25, 2007, 11:04
I haven't actually seen any threads where such comments are being aimed at you. If you feel they are, report it, and if I see it such comments, they will be deleted and the person in question will be spoken to. I won't have people taking the piss out of eating disorders or anything like that in here.

As for advice, I think you should welcome it Kinky. If anyone says anything about not eating enough, it's only because they care. I actually understood that you're not feeling well and didn't think twice about the amount you're eating today. I'm sure others feel the same way. If people upset you, PM me okay? S'what I'm here for

Having a bit less soup, and have thinned it down a bit- would say it's only about 50cals worth. Having 1/2 a roll (50cals) with it, if I can manage it.

Kinky McFoxxy
Jan 26, 2007, 14:03
Had porridge and a slice of toast so far today. Still feeling like shit. Also had a couple of mugs of hot water with lemon, ginger and honey, and a cup of Diet Irn Bru.

Am making broccoli soup to use up some veg, so might have some later. It is stupidly low calorie but ridiculously good. There are literally about 250cals in a huge pot that can then be thinned down with more water, it's so full of flavour. You could quite easily get 12 servings out of it. Wow- never actually realised how low cal it was!

Have decided that I am having a takeaway tonight on account of feeling rotten. Hell, I deserve it!

Managed another bit of toast and some soup.

Also had a wee spot of ice cream to cool down my throat.

Probably had about 400cals so far, at a push.

Suppose that leaves more for the takeaway!

Yesterday- had porridge, shared some tapas-type snacks for lunch (meatballs in tomato sauce, grilled mushrooms, smoked salmon crostini) and went out for dinner with an old friend- some beef thing with celeriac mash and salsa verde (yum), a trio of puddings (tiny slices of chocolate tart, clootie dumpling, and a baby pot of crumble) plus a few cocktails (lychee martini- double yum).

AND I WAS WEARING A SIZE 12 DRESS AND LEGGINGS!!!!!!!! And I didn't look like an obese monster!

Today- porridge, French toast and bacon for lunch, broccoli soup and 99% Fat Free Mediterranean Sausages with a slice of Nimble for dinner.

Not sure about ANY of the calories, other than the porridge, sausages and Nimble.

BUT I was wearing another size 12 top today :D

Seeing as I have to explain every word that comes out my mouth- this was an over the top comment based on my perception of myself, not on anyone who is over a size 12. It was what one calls a joke. Call me naive but I thought that it might be nice for people to give a bit of support like they have to everyone else, or maybe say "well done" for achieving something related to weight loss.

Obviously I'm public enemy number one. That's fine. I'm not going to stop documenting my progress, posting recipes and giving people advice. Everyone on here is an adult and it's up to them whether they follow it.

No, you aren't (public enemy number 1). And as I said in the other thread, of recent times your intake has massively improved and thats something to be proud of. The fact that you have got to a size 12 is also something to be celebrated, and you are right, you do deserve congratulations for achieving that.

I, like you, have been a damn sight bigger in my time than I am now, (even though I still have some way to go). I know what a struggle it is to keep going with weight loss, I had the greatest motivation in the world, the first time due to my fertility issues, it was the only way I could ever have hoped to get pregnant. I, like you, have issues with the way I look and feel about myself. Many of us do, and thats how we got to be so overweight in the first place. Food is the best and worst thing, it gives you comfort, but makes you feel worse afterwards if you overdo it.

If I was harsh on you, it was not because it was you saying it, and not because I wanted to be patronising, it was because I was truly alarmed at the amount Zelda was consuming according to her diary, and your post seemed to be advocating what she was doing. I realise that wasnt your intention and I apologise for having a blue fit about it.

We should all be supporting each other through this, and at times, thats going to mean saying something that the person on the recieving end doesnt want to hear. When you are locked into the mindset of a dieter, you can (and Im using the term "you" generally, not directly speaking to you personally) sometimes get so focused on doing it that you push yourself that extra mile in the hope that it will shift an extra pound more quickly.

Whereas food was once what you stuffed in your mouth to fill the emotional hole of how you felt about yourself, it turns into the way that you can control some part of your life and feel better about yourself, and thats when you enter the dangerous territory of going too far. Its a bit like those people who HAVE to go to the gym every day. It becomes as much an addiction as overeating was.

I apologise if I have in any way upset you, and I hope that you appreciate that my vent was because I was so worried about Zelda (as I have been in the past about you). You have already improved massively over recent weeks in terms of your eating and I am really glad you have been able to do that. Im also delighted for you that you are finally getting to the size you want to be.

I think we all need to relax a little bit and just try and enjoy what we are doing with the focus being on our health and wellbeing, and not obsessively counting calories to the point where our whole lives revolve around it and we feel bad if we happen to eat 10 calories too many. It doesnt matter what size we are as long as we can live with ourselves. No-one who matters a damn would care what size we were anyway, unless it was affecting our health in some way.

Take care, and well done again!

Breakfast- porridge- 160cals and toast- 50cals

Snack- 1 1/2 (cos one was all broken) bourbons- 90cals

Lunch- not sure what to have- maybe some tuna and crispbreads (about 200cals)- don't know yet.

Dinner- made chorizo and chickpea stew with low fat sausages (60cals each) instead of chicken in it. Will be about 250cals a portion, with mash or couscous.

No doubt will have an ice cream cone tonight.

What should I have for lunch???

Kinky McFoxxy
Jan 29, 2007, 15:15
Decided to have tuna- took 1 can of tuna (130cals) a bit of onion, finely chopped, a couple of leftover tinned tomatoes and a splash of balsalmic and mixed it all in. Also added a tiny bit of grated cheese (literally about 10g- 40cals).

Having it with a slice of Nimble and a crispbread (70cals).

So that's 240cals.

Will have a yoghurt after- 100cals.

Kinky McFoxxy
Jan 30, 2007, 13:50
Breakfast- porridge and toast- 210cals

Couple of Maoams- about 50cals?

Lunch- 2 low fat Mediterranean sausages, portion of steamed veg, slice of bread- 250cals

Dinner- same as last night- about 300 or so calories.

Probably ice cream, too.

Kinks, what brand of low fat sausages do you get? And where from? Are they decent? And are they proper meat, not veggie?

I'd like to try some, but I know if they're not 'proper' sausages, I'll get another pained look from the sibling.

Kinky McFoxxy
Jan 30, 2007, 14:15
They're Bowyer's 95% Fat Free Mediterranean style sausages. They taste like real sausages to me, only without the grease. The Mediterranean ones are especially lovely- they're pork with peppers, tomatoes, chilli and paprika through them. They taste a bit chorizo-y. I got them from Asda- they're doing 2 packs of 8 for 3 quid. Morrisons and Tesco used to stock them too but I haven't seen them in ages- was soooooo excited when I spotted them in Asda!

Mr McFoxxy
Jan 30, 2007, 17:17
They also do "Normal" ones in green wrapper without all the Mediterranean joy - these are somewhat easier to find. I had to do a double take when ASDA finally ended months of unrequited sausage joy

Jan 31, 2007, 16:11
Breakfast- the usual porridge and toast- 210cals

Lunch- leftover veg and chickpea stew (no sausages)- about 150-200cals and a small glass of fruit juice to up the cals- about 100cals

Dinner- will be butternut squash curry- about 150cals a portion.

Hmmm, bit of a lean day...will no doubt indulge later.

Kinky McFoxxy
Feb 1, 2007, 17:44
Breakfast- just porridge, no toast-160cals

Lunch- tuna baguette and a wee spot of fries out with the mother- probably 500cals, maybe more! She also gave me a bag of soft chocolate caramels from M&S. I could hear her pacemaker kicking in when that size 12 coat fitted me- she believes that being a bit overweight is a good thing, although she did tell me I look like a model- I love my mummy :D

Dinner- too stuffed to consider it right now- possibly soup related.

Had 2 slices of Nimble toast and 1/2 can of spag bol- that comes in at about 260cals. Then later I had 2 crackers and low fat pate (50cals). Think that's all...

Today- breakfast was porridge as usual (160cals)

Lunch will be the rest of the spag bol (so naughty, should be eating lovely fresh food) and a slice of toast- that's 210cals.

Friday night dinner is always a takeaway- we usually get a beef chow mein and share, cos it's massive, or a thin pizza from the best pizza restaurant in the uk (officially! It's called Bella Napoli on Kilmarnock Road and it was voted it by the pizza and pasta association, or summat) and it is the yum- not too much cheese, very thin but not too crispy, lovely chargrilled veg and fresh meat- the closest to the pizzas we had in Italy that I've ever tasted.

Failing that, it'll be a Subway or Greek food. We tend to avoid Indian takeaway cos it's just too filling, and there's no Thai place near here.

I'm sure you all care!

So, yeah, the takeaway normally comes in at around 500cals, which isn't too bad- unless we get chips! This street is terrible- there's a chippy, a deli, a coffee shop that does killer nachos, a Chinese takeaway and a Barbeque King (not sure what that is, really) and it's not even a main road. And then, round the corner, is a main road, with about a million restaurants on it. It's murder!

Has been much of the same here. really.

Yesterday:

Porridge- 160cals
Toast- 50cals

Lunch- pasta- 170cals
Crispbreads and hummus- 50cals

Tea and a bourbon- 70cals

Dinner- chickpea stew and mash- 350cals (?)
Ice cream- (100cals)

Then went out for tea to the local tearoom. Had half a flapjacky thing- probably another 100cals.

That's 1050 at least.

Today:

Breakfast- porridge- 160cals

Toast and tea- 50cals

Lunch- making broccoli soup, which is at most 50cals per portion. Don't know what else I'll have.

Dinner- leftover stew, maybe- with couscous, about 300cals

Don't know what else. Bah.

YAY! I never ate my organic yoghurt yesterday- I'm going to have it now :D

Had soup and a wholegrain cracker to dip for lunch. Going to have the yoghurt now.

I think the main change is that I appreciate the taste of things now. When your body and tastebuds get used to eating sweet, salty or fatty foods, eating veg is not that appealing. Once you start introducing more veg to your diet, you begin to appreciate the flavours. I adore courgettes and could eat just courgette for dinner, it's so yummy. I also love broccoli, which I used to smother in ketchup but now love the flavour of, especially in soup. I used to hate carrots but now love munching on them, and I even appreciate the flavour of celery when added to soups and stews. Folk who say they hate vegetables probably haven't taken the time to try them in different ways. I used to hate tomatoes and tomato sauces for pasta and things, but now most of the stews and sauces I make are tomato based. I really enjoy the flavour of it now because my tastebuds aren't deadened by salt and fat.

Rant over!

Bit of a naughty day- especially the hot dog! At least it came with salad and thick cut baked chips, not fries. And hot dogs aren't too bad calorie-wise- it's just all the shite in them that's bad!

Dinner wasn't enough- ended up having some toast later, and shared crisps with the husband. Was going to make soup but was having a bad day. Am making lots of soup today, though.

Saturday:

Breakfast- Porridge- 160cals

Lunch- Persian Chicken, Couscous, salad and tzaziki- about 500cals, maybe? Was delish, in the best restaurant in Glasgow- The Bay Tree on Great Western Road. Really basic, wobbly tables, but totally yum.

Dinner- homemade leek and potato soup, slice of Nimble- about 200cals

1/2 packet of crisps with t'other half- 70cals?

Breakfast- porridge and toast- 210cals

Lunch- red pepper soup- literally 50cals, there's nothing in it but 2 small peppers (about 26cals), 1 tin of tomatoes (about 60cals?) and an onion (about 35cals) and one stock cube (20cals?), it does 4 portions- that actually makes about 141cals for the lot, so only 35cals per portion. May double up on the portion size, then! Well, it is Ash Wednesday, which is meant to be a fast day.

Dinner- probably something quick- stir fry or pasta. Actually, yeah, think I'll have carrot, broccoli and courgette stir fry. Yum. So, 1 carrot- 30cals, 100g broccoli- about 40cals, 1 courgette- 30cals, 1 onion- 35cals. That's 135cals, plus a couple of splashes of sweet chilli sauce (1tbsp=30cals-ish). Or I'll have courgette and onion omelette- 1 egg (80cals), 1/2 onion (17cals) 1/2 courgette (15cals), slice of bread (50cals). That's 162cals.

Don't really know what else I'll have...

Dinner- leftover soup- 50cals. Pepper stuffed with ratatoullie (quick and easy cos I couldn't be bothered cooking properly) and a small portion of couscous- about 200cals

Lunch- big bowl of pepper soup, wholegrain cracker thing with soft cheese- about 150cals

Mint Options that I found at the back of the cupboard- 40cals

Dinner will be stir fry veg- carrot, onion, courgette, mange tout, baby corn and peppers, with a splash of sweet chilli sauce- about 150cals? Might add some chopped up cashews on top to boost calories.

I'm glad that what I'm eating is so much healthier- just need to find ways to boost calories without taking away from the improved healthy aspect of it all.

Smoothies are a good way, and they're delicious!

I do enjoy a smoothie from time to time- may increase my consumption!

Mid-morning- tea with a splash of soya milk and a wholegrain crackery thing- about 30cals

Lunch- tiny bit of pasta with steamed veg- about 200cals

I've been a good girl. That's all I have to report, really. Oh, except that my mum bought me a new sexy jacket that's a size 12! And I bumped into an old friend who didn't recognise me at first then couldn't get over how much slimmer I looked. Which was nice!

Okay, thought I'd do a wee review of my progress since I started this thread back in November.

Firstly, the most obvious thing is the fact that I'm wearing smaller clothes. Anyone will be able to tell you about the difference that makes to your confidence. I feel far better about myself most days, which is massively good. And I look better. My skin has improved, too.

Secondly, I'm more aware of what I'm eating and have a healthier attitude to what I'm putting in my body. 80% of our weekly shop is veg, and the rest is made up of fruit, juices, beans and pulses and grains. There is the odd packet of biscuits or small chocolate bars, but these can last for weeks now! I actually had to throw out some leftover biscuits that had gone out of date, which is almost unheard of! I seldom crave chocolate and crisps (once in a while, but not that often) and my tastebuds have changed. This is something that everyone should persevere with, IMO.

Thirdly, I've built up the confidence to exercise more on top of what the physio has me doing. This has made a MASSIVE difference to the weight loss, or at least I think it has. Plus, it really does boost your mood, which is something I used to think was a load of rubbish.

In short, I'd say that I've come out of that limbo period all dieters seem to fall into, where they can't quite let go of old eating habits. There's always the danger of slipping back or getting disillusioned with things if this is the case. Instead, I have a whole new attitude to things. This is not dieting to lose weight- this is how I eat now. There is no finishing line because it's not a battle or a race- it's a change in attitude, and I think it's an attitude that a lot more folk should be willing to adopt.

Glad to hear that things are going good for you and that you are where you want to be or thereabouts.

Can I ask how you plan to increase your calories again now? To maintain a healthy weight you are going to need to gradually begin to increase what you were consuming up to around 1800- 2000 or you will continue to lose.

Like I was saying in another thread- snacking on seeds, nuts and dried fruit, more fresh fruit (I get most of my 5 a day from veg, which is significantly lower in calories), probably introducing more protein (chicken, salmon, tuna, other fish) to main meals (what I eat now is mostly veg with pulses rather than meat).

Might start having 3 courses in the evening- soup, main meal and a big bowl of fruit after. Will probably up my yoghurt intake, too. Fat free Greek yoghurt with a splash of honey and some pumpkin seeds is delicious!

It's really easy to add on 100cals here or there without resorting to crisps or chocolate- if I'm having a veg stirfry, I'll finely chop some cashew nuts and sprinkle them over the top, or maybe add a handful of seeds or dried fruit to my porridge.

And, of course, I still have a Friday night takeaway and I don't deprive myself of anything- it's just that my tastes have gradually changed.

Good for you.

I cant ever imagine my tastes changing to the point where I no longer enjoy chocolate - but as Stevie rightly said "horses for courses". Everyone has to find their own way and what works for them. What works for you may not work for someone else simply because they have a different lifestyle, tastes or metabolism. It's awesome when you find whats right for you.

Will you be keeping your food diary going or is this a curtain call? Maintaining a healthy weight is twice the work of dieting, will you still use this as a way to check in on yourself?

It's not that I don't like chocolate, it's that I don't crave it as much or see it as something I need to have in my day to day diet.

I'll probably keep this diary up, but possibly not every day. I still want to lose some weight and tone up- I seem to have been lucky, so far, in that the weight has come off where I wanted it to and stayed on in all the right places ;) and I don't seem to be too baggy anywhere! But still, I'd like a more toned rear and thigh area and a bit off my tummy, and to lose about half a stone more.

I've got my legs back, though! Well, just about- still wearing thick tights or leggings, but the hemlines are rising!

I DO NOT HAVE A FUCKING EATING DISORDER. JUDGE ME ALL YOU LIKE- I HAVE A FUCKING HEALTHIER APPROACH TO FOOD THAN MOST OF YOU. AT LEAST I KNOW WHAT I'M PUTTING IN MY BODY.

Takes a deep breath.

Ok.

As you know, I have in the past commented to you via PM about my concerns regarding your dietary intake. I have tried not to make this into a board issue, but as your dietary intake seems to be spreading into most forums and you are now scrapping with people over your perception of their words it is time for me to take some further action.

I cannot possibly diagnose whether or not you have an eating disorder. What is apparent however, is that you have an unnaturally high interest in food and calorific intake, and that you are restricting your diet in an unhealthy manner, as documented in your food diary.

I am also not a psychotherapist, but when looking up the definition of an eating disorder, I found this quote, which you may find of interest, or you may choose to reject out of hand. Neither makes any difference to me whatsoever. Its your life and your body.

Some psychologists also classify a syndrome called orthorexia as an eating disorder, or, more properly, "disordered eating" - the person is overly obsessed with the consumption of what they see as the 'right' foods for them, to the point that their nutrition and quality of life suffers.

In some respects, you have it absolutely right, you are eating healthy nutritious fresh foods, but you are apparently restricting other food groups including protein and carbs for whatever reason your mind is telling you to do it for. (presumably weight loss)

If this orthorexia is an eating disorder, and its something you are experiencing, it does not make you a bad person, it is an illness.

Something I do know, is that when someones mind is fixed on a particular obsession, their inner voice will tell them to ignore outside advice, because you know better. That illness wants you to continue what you are doing because it feeds into your psyche and its effectively a form of denial.

Your strong reactions to peoples comments suggest that they are hitting a raw nerve with what they are saying. Denial is a powerful protector from reality. You can use it to justify pretty much anything that you do that is harming you.

I would STRONGLY recommend that you look at some therapy as to why you are finding it necessary to be so overtly interested in your diet, and that you seek the advice of your GP for a referral to find out if you do have an eating disorder.

Until you do those things, I dont think it is appropriate for you to continue to be offering advice to others on how to go about weight loss. We are not rejecting you personally, but you need to go away and have a think about how much impact food is having on your life and exactly how much damage you could be doing to yourself by continuing to prolong this dietary restriction.

Perhaps in a few months when you have had time to think about it, and find out whether or not what you have been doing is appropriate, we can look at you rejoining us in the diet forum, but until that time, I think it would be preferable and in your interests to prevent you from doing so.
