LordSnot
Jan 28, 2007, 18:43
Zelda, you do biology! You should know this, if you don't eat enough your body reacts by storing every bit of fat it can and refusing to let it break down. 1000 is too little, your body will still react like it's being starved (cos it is).

Zelda

i can safely say i will not be losing 11 pounds in the next four weeks :(

Minx
Jan 28, 2007, 19:09
Bloody right you wont!

Firstly, thats too high an expectation. 1-2lb a week you should be losing, not more. Secondly, your intake is FAR too low, and you need to pull it up quick smart. At the very minimum I want you eating 1000 calories, and I would prefer it if you aimed for 12-1400, if you are exercising.

You'll lose weight doing that, you wont at the moment because you're starving yourself.

Stop it right now and think on. As I said elsewhere, your food habits are an example to others, would they consider this a self and healthy way to lose weight? No, because it isnt, and its clearly not working for you.

If you have problems with food, (and I suspect you might because you think that eating a healthy portion of food is not healthy) then go see your GP and talk through a healthy eating regime with them.

We care about you too much to allow you to turn into Mary Kate Olsen. Small achievable targets Zelda. You're destined to fail if you set your goals too high. We dont want you to fail, or to harm yourself in pursuit of a goal.

Please, get a grip of this now before you do yourself serious harm.

Kinky McFoxxy
Jan 28, 2007, 19:28
I don't think that Zelda will end up doing herself harm, I just think she's in danger of falling into that all-too-familiar cycle of starvation-misery-bingeing that we all know, I'm sure. I've been there so many times- "oh, the diet isn't working, must cut back- gah, it's still not working, may as well give up."

Zelda, your determination is great. I'm not going to be the one to tell you to eat more, I'm just going to encourage you to look at the positives- you want to do this, you've made great steps to making it happen, you're exercising regularly- just keep it up and think of the progress you've already made by dedicating yourself to your weight loss :)

Minx
Jan 28, 2007, 19:40
Im afraid Im going to have to respectfully disagree with you Kinky.

I think theres a distinct possibility of long term harm when people insist on eating ridiculously small amounts. The problem is, you simply dont see the damage until its too late. You can harm your fertility, destroy your teeth, cause yourself muscle wastage, stomach ulcers from excess acid in your stomach, the list of possibles is frankly quite frightening.

If you gave a flying stuff about Zelda, then you would be telling her to eat more, rather than encouraging her to look at the positives of starving herself.

KEEP UP EATING TWO CHICKEN BREASTS AND A FUN SIZED TWIX A DAY?

Have you lost your mind?

I will not have this forum turned into a home for anorexics. Be supportive, but for christs sake be honest with yourselves. This is no way to eat and diet healthily.

Kinky McFoxxy
Jan 28, 2007, 19:48
It's up to her to come to that realisation, but I'm not encouraging her to keep this up. I'm just trying to focus on the POSITIVE things she's achieved, like exercising regularly.

Did you not read my post properly? I said that, to me, it seems that she's disillusioned with dieting and will probably, ultimately, end up giving up on the diet cos she's fed up with it. And I'm sure we've all been there.

And it is COMPLETELY out of order for people to continually level anorexic comments at me. I've witnessed the disorder and the effects it has in a member of my family and I would never promote it in any form.

I think that some of the posts on here have been really patronising and I don't think anybody needs lectured about their eating habits.

Hamry
Jan 28, 2007, 19:48
Zelda is already doing herself harm and will carry on doing so if she carries on. What she is eating is an unhealthy amount.

I truly hope Kinky, that you are not suggesting Zelda carry on this way, as that is what I feel your post is implying.

I'm not comfortable with unhealthy eating being encouraged and I do not want to have to start taking actions, but believe me, I will. I want this forum to remain positive, lively and more importantly I want it to promote healthy eating and for members to follow this.

Hate to go all serious on your asses, but this is a serious topic. Zelda, I love ya to bits, please don't take these posts the wrong way, we just care is all.

Kinky McFoxxy
Jan 28, 2007, 19:52
ALSO I was the one who helped Zelda calculate her BMR and to calculate how many calories she should be eating in a day (around 1600). She can verify this, or you can look in the New Year, New Us thread to see that.

I am NOT encouraging anyone to eat dangerous amounts of food- quite the opposite. I've posted numerous recipes in the Low Fat Recipe thread, and put loads of suggestions in the Snacks thread. I've found the BMR generator so that people can have a more accurate idea of how many calories they can eat in a day (which is almost always more than they realise). Ask Zelda, ask GIR, ask Dominoid- I've given them all advice about this and I'm actually hurt at the accusations being levelled at me on here.

Kinky McFoxxy
Jan 28, 2007, 19:57
IS anyone actually reading my posts?

I suggested nothing of the sort.

I said that it's more likely that she gives up the diet altogether if she's so disillusioned. How many times have we ALL gone on a crash diet then resorted to the biscuit tin when it hasn't given immediate results?

I said (THREE TIMES) that Zelda's doing great with her exercise and should take something positive from that that will hopefully translate into her diet. I also said on another thread that the best way to lose weight was eating healthily and exercising. I've expressed disappointment at my own eating habits and stated that I am changing this- which I am. I have never and will never be an advocate for eating disorders.

I have to apologise to Zelda for hijacking her thread.

LordSnot
Jan 28, 2007, 19:58
Yes but your advice just now appeared to be "carry on eating less than you need to sustain yourself, that's a positive way to go!". Whether you meant it like that is another matter because that's how it reads. I'm all for encouraging each other, but let's encourage HEALTHY eating habits, not eating disorders.

If you're witnessing it, I'm sure you know the person with the problem is always the last one to know they have it.

Minx

Well perhaps if people like yourself werent implying that anything over a size 12 was "obese monster"like then we wouldnt have to "lecture" people about their eating habits in the first place. Get some perspective.

Whether you like it or not, you WERE promoting it. Did you read her food diary and look at what she was consuming before you praised her dedication to losing weight? Yes, its great that shes exercising, but shes not even eating enough to support her bodys natural functions in a sedentary state! Healthy eating is about finding a balance, and frankly, I find your posts quite confusing. On one hand, you say "if you do this (eat healthily, move about a bit) you'll lose weight" - but its only recently that you've started to practice what you preach in any way shape or form.

The point of this forum is to support and encourage people to lose weight in a healthy and realistic manner, and to accept the opinions of one another if they feel that we are going to an extreme.

If I was posting that sort of dietary intake in my food diary, I would expect people to be alarmed and point it out to me. I might not like what they had to say if I was in the wrong frame of mind, but I would expect them to care enough to be able to front me out and say when they felt I was going too far.

If this sort of thing continues, we will have no choice but to close this forum. Its obviously up to you what you put in to your own bodies, but the forum has a responsibility to all of its members not to encourage them into causing themselves harm.

Hate to disagree with everyone, but I thought Kinky was being quite rational and supportive here. I would think that she was trying not to attack Zelda, and rather focus on the positives instead of the negatives. Obviously the technique of just telling someone to eat more doesn't work, if they truly think they need to be eating less. JMHO.

Kinky's post would have been fine if Zelda was following a healthy weight loss regime. She isn't, and although telling her to eat more might not work, telling her that her determination (i.e. to starve her body of what it needs) is a positive thing is NOT rational or supportive, unless you happen to be on an ana site.

Can I just add, that I have been particularly impressed with Kinkys recent efforts to improve her intake, despite the previous comments. I do appreciate how hard you have worked.

Kinky, I am not trying to alienate you or make you feel bad, but please realise that the context of what you wrote did give the implication of encouraging Zelda in a)something that clearly isnt working for her and b)something that is absolutely bloody unhealthy.

I appreciate that it may not have been your intention to convey that, but thats exactly how it came across.

And I can only apologise to Zelda for the threadjacking. I dont want to discourage you from being honest, but I do want you to know that we cared enough to at least "try" and intervene.

I think I got exactly what Kinky meant. There are positive sides: the increased exercise, the increased awareness of food. But there are also dnagerous sides. The thing is, Zelda's not listening and probably won't listen. she's already decided she knows best and will keep ignoring us. I see no real reason to bother any more. If you die, the site and its members accept no responsibility and cannot be held accountable.

Can I just add my bit to this subject.

I have to say that I am shocked at Zelda's food diary. She eats very little and what she does eat usually isn't that healthy. But, Zelda is young (trying not to patronise her here) and she needs us all to guide her.

I am twice the age of Zelda and have only recently discovered a healthy way of eating without calorie counting, or cutting down on my food intake. It's a matter of WHAT you put in your mouth, not always HOW MUCH.

It seems obvious to me that Zelda isn't eating enough to even think about exercising.

Surely we can all help and guide her a little bit more in a positive way?

Kinky McFoxxy

Dry cheerios are bloody great, I'm with you there. I like them either dry or saturated to the point of sogginess with milk. Just don't go the ana way and have em with water (read: skimmed milk, might as well be the same).

why woudl anyone eat them with water? its semi skimmed milk or nothing baby.

Kinky McFoxxy
Jan 28, 2007, 22:38
Skimmed milk has about 45 calories per 100ml. The removal of the fat also, somehow, changes the balance of calcium, or how your body absorbs it, or something, so you actually get more benefit from it, calcium-wise. Don't know the exact science, so don't hound me about it. I prefer the taste of it, too. Since I had my gallbladder removed I've been less able to tolerate excess fat, so skimmed milk is better for me, too.

Kinky McFoxxy
Jan 28, 2007, 22:39
Sorry for double post, just found this:

SKIMMED COW'S MILK

Calories per pint: 195. Fat per pint: 0.5 grams.

Skimmed milk contains 0.1 per cent fat and about half the calories of the full-fat version. However, even though fat is removed, it still retains most of its nutrients.

In fact, skimmed cow's milk contains slightly more calcium than full-fat milk because calcium is found in the watery part, not the creamy part.

For this reason, women who are post menopausal or who have a family history of osteoporosis should choose skimmed milk in preference to whole. It also contains more water- soluble B vitamins.

But while skimmed milk is a perfect health drink for adults and is excellent as part of a fatcontrolled diet, it should not be given to children under five because of its low calorie, fat and vitamin content.

It is also an excellent alternative to full-cream milk for those who suffer irritable bowel syndrome, since fat-rich foods are thought to aggravate the condition.

LordSnot
Jan 28, 2007, 22:56

Oh trust me, some would.

I'm with you Zelda, I don't like full fat because it's too thick and I don't like skimmed because it's white water. Semi is just right for me.

:stupid:

Although Im led to believe that that Cravendale "The One" milk which is skimmed is supposed to taste better than ordinary skimmed milk.

Havent tried it though so cant verify that.

I dont even count milk in my calorie intake. I know it adds on extra, but as I only have it in coffee and on cereal and I wouldnt have either without it, I just class it as essential maintenance fluids. I dont think I get through more than a pint a day, so I dont care what it adds to my daily content.

Right, I still look like fat slag, so I better steer clear of the sweets.

Today I will be eating bolognese with olive mash.

Ahem. I think you look charmingly lovely. But that does sound like a yummy dinner, lacking only in garlic bread.

Zelda

Zelda

Top tip: pouring olive oil into mashed potato is never a good idea

Today will be chicken with raosted root veg. Wish me luck guys.

Zelda
Mar 21, 2007, 18:21
Damn I'm good.

One chicken breast, two medium sized carrots, one leek without the green bits and four baby new potatos.

Slice everything but the potatoes. Place on overnproof tray and pour olive oil over it. Mix food about so it gets coated. Place in oven that has been pre-heated at 200 degrees, 220 if it's not fan assisted. Leave for 30 minutes, shaking food about at intervals.

Am on Easter hols for the next two weeks from Monday. Brother Zelda will be at home to keep an eye on my food intake. If I could get back down to 10 stone 2 in the next two weeks, that would be fab.

I know I can get back down to a healthy weight

I don't look like a barrell, and don't go "ooh you've lost some weight haven't you" when 18 months ago you felt the ned to point out I'd gained weight. :headbang:

I didn't, sadly.

I am a goddess. Anyone who says otherwise is not worthy of me.

Apr 2, 2007, 19:34
No. You're a princess. And you're crap at not getting yourself held captive (I mean, you'd think after it's happened 10 times already you'd hire a body guard or something)

Still, good for you for at least thinking it. Next step: actually say it. I'm deadly serious here too. There is no need to accept it because they're family. Like anyone else, family members have to earn their honour. If someone in my family started putting me down to the extent you say they have been to you they would be likely to be on the receiving end of either my tongue (not in a good way) or my fist, depending on what sort of a mood I am in.

Breakfast was one slice of toast with one slice of cheddar and two slices of ham, with half a teaspoon of Flora light spread on the toast, washed down with tropical five-alive.

Morning snack was berry five-alive and a bag of fun size maltesers, and one cherry drop. By 1500 I felt like I was going to faint, so I bought a cheese salad sammich, and ate half of it.

I feel so tired now.

Hmm. Now the weather is hotting up a bit, I find I don't feel as hungry as I used to. Is this normal?

All I've had so far today is some mutton and vegetable soup with two slices of lightly Flora'd bread, and a glass of fruit juice. 4 hours later, I'm only a little bit hungry, not "i'm going to faint if i dont eat" hungry.

This is a good thing, right?

LordSnot
Jun 4, 2007, 12:26
Aye, you had a well balanced meal, go you.

People generally don't want to eat so much in the heat. You use less energy than in the winter cos you don't have to heat yourself up, so your body demands a lower intake of energy. Again with the biology - Zelda, you know more than me, you should know this stuff chicka.

Zelda

I know I ought to know this!

It looks like our holiday will be in August, if we even go on one this year, so that gives me two months, or 8 weeks to lose 0.5-1 stone.
