View Full Version : Shit "healthy food"
dominoid Nov 13, 2006, 17:33 Here's a thread to name and shame crap products. Either those which are meant to be healthy but lie or those which are healthy but are to be avoided by way of being crap. I'd like to nominate:
Ryvita Minis, these really are healthy but taste like cardboard. I had a pack of these from the vending machine at work and I hate wasting food so i did eat the whole pack but I think I might have got more flavour if I ate the packaging instead.
Mr Kipling delightful cherry bakewells - Apparently they;re low fat. I can't help thinking it's not the fat that is the problem with a normal cherry bakewell but ALL THE FUCKING SUGAR YOU CUNTS 200 calories per cake, about 230 in a cheap supermarket one I compared it too so sod it, might as well get the real thing, that won't cost an arm and a leg.
Top thread :)
Today I bought some 'banana chips' as I'd had no time for lunch yet, and wanted a healthy snack to eat in my next lesson. I paid 85p for this tiny little bag of them and when they came out of the vending machine I looked at the calories and it's 210 calories for the whole pack (40g)! I couldn't believe it. Turns out it's packed with fecking sugar. I could have had 2 bags of Walkers French Fries and it would have been less calories than those!
Drives me mad that my college thinks it's supplying all this 'healthy' food when really, it's not. The healthiest thing you can get is stuff from the salad bar, but half of it is bad to eat because it's got fatty dressings or mayo. There's fresh fruit, but that's not so fresh so I don't waste loads of money on it (it's a rip off).
dominoid Nov 13, 2006, 18:09 My work does the same thing. There is a poster by each of the vending machines proudly proclaiming that if a product is marked with their special green stickers it will be low fat and have no more than 150 calories. nothing has actually been marked with the little green stickers so you have to just guess. Banana chips ar lovely and I made the same mistake in thinking they were healthy. I think they fry them to get them crispy most of the time.
LordSnot Nov 13, 2006, 19:20 Diabetic chocolate.
It's great if you're diabetic AND happen to love the laxative effect.
Even my doctor agrees that it's better to have some normal, sugar-packed chocolate than eat this shit. It's got a weird aftertaste too.
Cadbury do a chocolate bar that has no added sugar. Didnt taste too bad.
LordSnot Nov 13, 2006, 19:38 Ooh really? I'll have to check that out. The thing you have to watch out for is sorbitol, a sweetener, that's also a laxative. Tastes like shit.
enourmous david Nov 13, 2006, 20:00 Ryvita Minis, these really are healthy but taste like cardboard.
I havent tried the minis, but if theyre like the original ryvitas then they will be crap. I always go for the Ryvita multigrain (green packet) theyre quite tasty and only a couple of calories higher than the plain ones.
Ricecakes.
Who invented this shit?
Puffy rice is ok, Rice Krispies are the badgers nadgers. Rice Cakes are like chewing polystyrene, the only purpose they serve is to give your jaw a bit of exercise. A lot, of exercise, actually. But they taste like papshmir.
dominoid Nov 14, 2006, 14:47 Ricecakes with Jam on are really nice though. My mum gets this really nice diebetic jam that's apparently quite low cal as well. I will try and get the name of it off her next time I call.
Snackajakcs are nice. But loaded with sugar. My poor teeth.
dominoid Nov 14, 2006, 14:55 They do savoury ones, the sourcream and chive ones are nice.
Kinky McFoxxy Nov 14, 2006, 15:39 Barbeque and salt and vinegar snackajacks are goooooooood.
LordSnot Nov 15, 2006, 16:29 The cheese ones are munch
Diabetic chocolate.

Really? Is this Carob? My dad is diabetic so I always used to buy big blocks of the stuff and melt it down and mix it with muesli to make snacky type things. He occasionally managed to have a couple before I flattened them all! ;)
I love the stuff, and never found it had any kind of laxative effect.
sysadm Nov 22, 2006, 02:31 Thai Bites , are'nt to bad , and the mini ryvita cheese 'n' red onion are fairy get-downable.
But,
Are pretzels healthy? , I bet they are , because they taste like baked tapeworms.
beware the baked "meal" bar!
or any sort of Bar over half an inch thick claiming to be healthy. These invariably have masses of saturated fat.
C-Stomp Nov 22, 2006, 08:17 Ooh really? I'll have to check that out. The thing you have to watch out for is sorbitol, a sweetener, that's also a laxative. Tastes like shit.
no way. sugar-free chocolates are one of the highlights of healthier-eating food developments.
they taste as good a regular chocolates; i realize they're not really lower in calories, but refined sugar is poison. there's usually a laxative aftereffect, but it's not really a big bother. just go to the bathroom, big deal.
Usually weight watchers ready meals are to be avoided, as they taste awful.
I have discovered a new way of eating them though. If you get the mediterranean vegetable pasta, grate half a block of cheese over it and put it in the oven for 20 minutes, it tastes fan-fucking-tastic.
Yes, I know, the cheese can't be very good for me. But it's better than eating cheese on toast.
Plus, all I've eaten today is veg soup and porridge. I deserved that cheese, dammit.
sysadm Nov 22, 2006, 23:43 Innit.
You need a bit of sneaky cheese
Lintuk Nov 23, 2006, 00:07 I *can't* do sweetner. If there's a little hint in any food it's all i'll taste, followed by a really bitter, chemical aftertaste.
Full fat sugar all the way!
Cloudane Nov 23, 2006, 00:34 *sneaks into the bitches forum* hmph! Women hogging the forum where one can try to lose part of the beer gut!
I'm not fond of snackajacks. It's like polystierene packing with a bit of flavour sprinkled on the top.
IMO any of these supposedly "low fat treats" are either bollocks or tasteless and usually overpriced. (A bit like how organic food is usually 3-5x the price of 'normal' food - like that's not extortion at al!)
Fresh fruit all the way. It's natural, which usually means it's a lot healthier, and can taste very nice.
sysadm Nov 23, 2006, 00:45 No , cloude.
The rules are ,we can be bitches ,if we show respect for the forum.
And don't come marching here like bulls in a china shop.
Fresh fruit ,is nice but If you have to eat a piece of fruit whilst driving a white van ,the peeling/quartering/picking out the pips etc could get you arrested , and cause you to lose distraction and knock a lady pedestrian over.
