Whilst discussing global politics with Kinky McFoxxy last nite I recalled the somewhat bizarre meal I had a few years back in Lisbon. After a wee bit of googling It turns out to be a traditional dish the Francesinha club sandwich.
A frankly bizarre mix of sandwich soaked in alcohol and wrongness fuelled sauce. Highly recommended for Hangover recovery and not much else
Francesinha club sandwich deluxe
Ingredients:
For Sauce:
1 onion chopped
1 garlic clove chopped
1 glass white wine
1 beer
2 bay leaves
11/2 glass water
¼ glass whisky
¼ glass red wine
few drops Tabasco
2 soup spoons tomato sauce
olive oil
For Sandwich:
2 slices bread
4 slices ham
4 rashers bacon
1 thin prego steak
½ chourico
4 slices parma ham
4 slices presunto
handful grated mozzarella cheese
1 fried egg
Method:
Sauce: Put onion and garlic in olive oil to brown. Add the rest of ingredients and boil for about 15 minutes. Remove bay leaves and liquidize sauce. If sauce is too thin add a little corn flour. Pour over sandwich.
Sandwich: Fry all the meats for a few seconds. Start sandwich with a slice of bread, add all the meats and end of with another slice of bread. Put sandwich on casserole plate than can go into the oven. Put the sauce on top of the sandwich. Cover the sandwich with mozzarella cheese and put in oven until cheese is melted. Put fried egg on top of sandwich and serve with chips.
