This is a thread about carbs, but if the A***** diet is mentioned there will be trouble. I'm well in with the mod here, just you beware.
My problem is that I'm diabetic. This means I must eat three meals a day and have 2 snacks a day inbetween meals. Every snack must be mainly carbohydrate and each meal should be 1/3 carbs. I should have as little sugar in my diet as possible - this doesn't just mean sweets and chocolates, it also includes (to name a few):
- Milk
- Fruit juices (they are very healthy but they have natural sugar from fruits and even a small glass is bad for me)
- Grapes, bananas and a few other fruits
- Most fizzy drinks (diet and light ones are ok)
Apart from that, I should have an ordinary balanced diet with all the things you're supposed to have.
So me and the Minxinator are going on a diet together on the 2nd of Jan. I need suggestions for main meals with lots of carbs that are still as low in calories as possible, and ideas for high-carb snacks that I can have twice a day.
Also when dieting I have a tendency to go hypo (basically have low blood sugar) because my insulin dosage changes if my diet changes (the more calories, the higher the dose, to put it simply) and it will take a while for my to get the dose right since I have to adjust it myself. What I need at these times is something very high in sugar that will get into my bloodstream fast, because my main symptom is an intense hunger. This is the body's way of getting sugar into it, making me feel like I need to eat everything in sight so I'll cram sugar into it. So any ideas for things I can munch on? If I have, say, a high sugar drink then that will solve the hypo no problem, but because there's a delayed reaction I have this intense hunger for 5 - 10 minutes. I need ideas for things I can munch on then that aren't too fattening, or else I can undo all the good work I've done in a week during one hypo.
If you come across high-carb, low calorie meals, please please please stick them here or in the recipe thread for me. TIA. :-)
