This (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6262347.stm) seems quite interesting.

However, is it just me or does the assumption, "We hit on the idea of a chewing gum because obese people like chewing" seem offensive to anyone else?

No, it seems like a really good idea. Part of it is to do with the psychology of making your mind feel like you've eaten as well as your body.

However, that is the only part. Overall, I think it's a BAD idea except in extreme cases. People should change their lifestyles, not just skip a meal by chemically fooling themselves.

:haha: It seems like it could work as a good idea if used sensibly but it would also encourage people to just stop eating and keep chewing that gum. I think I know what they mean though, in the same way chewing gum helps stop smoking. The could have chosen better words though.

I've found that chewing regular sugar free gum stops you from munching, anyway. Something to do with taking in air when you chew, which fills your tummy and makes you feel full.

I eat strong mints (sugar free) sometimes when I feel like munching and that takes care of hunger pangs too.

Hmpf, I know someone who is now not only addicted to cigarettes, but also to the nicorette gum she used to try and kick the habit. Fuck that, she now spends twice as much so that she can chew and smoke at the same time!
