Don't you start cristisising my remarkable one sentence technique, I've already had an earfull from skelly. I judge comedies on how funny they are, the last three films I have watched/in this thread are comedies - in one sentence I wrote whether they were funny or not. If thats not enough for you, then go to this (http://board.dogbomb.co.uk/showthread.php?t=47548) thread. It gets tiring being interesting and witty all the time, I've got to give it a rest sometime; I guess this thread isnt the place to do it.

It's really good, but ultimately it's a let down.

Don't spent 15 quid on it.

I thought it was better than Beowulf (CGI version), just because of the raging storms and authentic atmosphere.

30 Days of Night - Vampires n shit, the darkest hour will be the last 60 mins you spend watching it, predictable.

The Golden Compass - Witches, talking animals, good vs evil, its like Harry Potter + Lion, Witch and Wardrobe on drugs, great stuff.

Very true apparantly, I actually heard this from a friend of mine years ago (Riggs taking credit for other peoples jokes, bad boy), but using the power of google just now I found the original.....

"Tom Cruise plays a cocktail maker… a pretty good cocktail maker too, until he has a crisis of confidence and can’t make cocktails anymore. Then he finds a good woman who restores his faith in cocktail making. Tom Cruise plays a race-car driver… "

Which is actually even funnier because you can apply it to Last Samurai as well and even Interview with a Vampire with a slight adjustment.

Interview with a Vampire
"Tom Cruise plays a Vampire… a pretty good Vampire actually, until he has a crisis of confidence and can’t be a Vampire anymore, then he finds a journalist who restores his faith in cocktail making."

(although this applies to Brad Pitt in this movie as well)

My observation about Jamie Fox and Collatoral is my own though.

It does have integrity. Ive not yet seen the CGI version with the "Daddy".

Bog standard suspence drama. Trying to be clever. Weak.

Seriously, Guillermo what happened? this was the most cliched and obvious piece of shit I've seen in a long while. I jumped twice throughout the entire film (Wherewe got a glimpse of Benigna's lovely face after being shunted into the air by an ambulance, and when the cupboard door was slammed shut.) - I'm not saying that in a "ooh look at me, I'm well 'ard this film didn't scare me" way, just that I didn't feel it worked as a horror film and can't understand those who did...

On the dvd cover, there's the following quote "The new Pan's Labyrinth. Excellent" - Other than the Obvious Del Toro link, can anyone find a link between the two?

I'm being a cock now, so I'll stop.

I didn't actually like the film because it scared the pants off me (that was a by-product): what did it for me was my empathy with the main character, and with the all of the children - from fearing the little brutes to feeling incredibly sad and wanting the best for them, and the whole Peter Pan/Wendy thing brought a lump to the throat to be sure. Even sackboy changed from being a figure of dread to a figure of abject sadness, and I thought it was dead nice at the end when he was unafraid to walk around without the sack.

The parallels between The Orphanage and Pan's are the workings of children's imaginations, how adults deal with this, and the blurring of the boundaries between these fantasies and reality as the film develops, the reunification of loved ones through death (both films end both tragically for those remaining in the living world and happily for those who depart) - oh, and the subtitles :). It is also pretty easy to categorise them both as 'adult fairy tales' particularly in light of the Peter Pan references.

Dunno what possessed the husband to leave his wife alone in that fucked up and dangerous place for the last few scenes though when he was obviously madly in love with her and concerned for her well being - not sure if that was a 'love conquers all' sacrifice kind of thing, or just a clumsy plot device ;)

Anyway - I loved it!
