If I was to stop people signing up with yahoo.com and hotmail.com addresses... would that be a bad idea?

I signed up with my hotmail addy, but only cos my outlook box is spammed so much, I never use it. I can check hotmail from any computer...will you be offering dogbomb inboxes then? That'd be cool.

I take it that most of the recent users with issues were freeserver users. I have a Y acc't for backup, but use the attbi.com addys primarily. Guess it just depends on whether the problems you're encountering are disruptive enough to warrant it. It wouldn't be precident setting - there are other sites that require a 'real' email addy.

well, only a prob if something happens to me. i used a hotmail account to sign up and i think trxie used her yahoo. we have an aol but we share that one.

if this is about the recent assholes doubleing up their accounts just remember that assholes have extra money, seeing as no sane woman would stay with them

two many people dont have a diffent email addy. i dont think its a bad i dea, just not a good one, and you can of course ban the shits when they emerge

Well my hotmail account is the only one that i really use as work and uni are location restricted (yay for mail forwarding). So if it would only affect new members:

Why not allow people to register for one month and they have to make a minimum number of posts within say a one month period (which is then reviewed by one of the mods) or upgrade to a topdog account ?

This will weed out a majority of people who just come for the porn forum or to abuse ( as you would ban / kick them so they lose there money)

In addition to which they need to have been subscribed for a minimum period before they can access the areas that subscribers can instantly (or they get one grace browse around) ??? so if they are genuine they will come back ???

I think the idea of having to make a number of posts[1] in your first month or your account gets deleted is a good idea - that runs on another forum i post on (webmaster world)

it would be best if members could reuse the same login if it was deleted (eg someone signs up with username1 posts once, comes back two month later - finds their account removed - so trys registering again with username1)

[1] number of posts - i would think 5 to be a reasonable number (between 3 and 15 anyway)

I think 1000 would be a fairer number ... then I'd have the whole board to myself, yay!

This is true. I am half and half about the idea of removing accounts as well... The real issue here is that if you ban someone, they get a different email addy and sign up again...

maybe we should employ the technique as used by Jay ands Silent Bob in the second film, with the adpation that 'we' track down the users and ensure that they do not sign up again :D

i dont particulary like the whole minimum post thing, because is someone gets deleted and resignes up, their gonna post like mad again and get through the barrier. plus, not everyone comes here to post their thoughts, some come here for chat or to cruse the porn, and i see nothing wrond with them, its the assholes that need to be straightend out.

I think that if you set a minimum post limit, all that you will succeed in doing is filling the boards with crap posts.

and i completely agree with Noble, I would not go as far as to say it s a think tank, a discussion is closer to the mark. Even i have changed my mind about suggestions that I made, as Bungee pointed out by setting a posting requirement you will see some users who would just post crap to gain access to the user only areas.

so rather than going with the minimum number of posts, set a minimum time that a user needs to be registered first before the rest of the site become avalible to them. This would hopefully lead to people having a look around the forums and thinking he he he this looks cool, this would allow them to realise how much of a fantastic site this was :D

I use my Hotmail addy for convienience, even if the schools network blocks out the Hotmail.com URL. (Only need to deal with that for another month tho)

It would cause inconvieniance as I switched to Hotmail from my AOL account (and my grudge with them is well documented) and I rarely use my freeserve addy.
